@Operagirl1 BYMT never cast actual parts until later. Some shows will have a casting weekend before the residential. Others they will decide on when they start working with the kids. I think @minimits Can probably share more experiences x

@doesanybodyhaveamap thanks so much for that. DD has calmed down a bit with that news and I think she's starting to look forward to it. I've just got to negotiate with the opera company now and see if she can still do that as well. It will mean missing the last performance and I guess the small part will be out of the window but she can still sing in the chorus (hopefully)!

singingfairy · 22/04/2021 19:57

Did any of the creative teams for the NYMT shows give you any ideas when the results would be coming in? This is so different to previous years with some musicians hearing first!

minimits · 22/04/2021 20:05

@Operagirl1that is indeed the very tricky thing with BYMT-you don’t know what you will be doing until you get there. I would say however that the size of his part hasn’t dictated how much he has learnt/enjoyed the show. Most of his learning curve has been about the experience of working with professional adults and being part of an ensemble. And getting to be with like minded peers. I would ask wether is it dance focus etc as if your DS would like experience in this field then that might be useful but if not so dancy (there was barely any in his last BYMT show) that may affect the experience depending on what your DS hopes to get out of it. Unfortunately you are never guaranteed a part with BYMT, but a huge part of it is the experience of living and training with others which is hard to get elsewhere.

minimits · 22/04/2021 20:06

@Operagirl1I meant DD! Sorry!!!

minimits · 22/04/2021 20:08

Sorry-me again-in past years the shows with longer residentials (usually for older kids) do indeed have a casting weekend in May half term.

Operagirl1 · 22/04/2021 20:19

Hi @minimits thanks for that. My DD is an all rounder. Her voice is quite operatic but she loves the dancing and the acting so her preference is to go into MT. I am sure DD will enjoy it whatever and it will be a great experience for her. Hoping all the other DC get what they are hoping for ...

Comefromaway · 22/04/2021 20:57

Hunchback is looking very unlikely now for ds. If he does get into another show then I’ll have to do some serious thinking and enquire about accommodations (mostly to do with food!) When he originally applied I’d (wrongly) assumed all residential for Hunchback would be in Manchester but I thought it’s ok, it’s only a week, maybe he can manage for a week or I can take a week off work and stay in the area with him. That won’t be possible for longer production weeks elsewhere.

I haven’t told him results are coming out. No point in getting him angst until I’ve got something concrete to tell him.

Thank you to everyone for all the info on different schools and costs etc - my head is spinning! All the things we need to look into over the next year or so I guess before seeing which ones might be of interest!

I really appreciate the info and may well take up the Mum who offered the PM help :)

We are way way up in the north for those who asked!

MT schools and funding is my specialist subject! So feel free to contact me if I can be of any help. I’m North West.
allhailthebrain · 22/04/2021 21:24

Thanks @Comefromaway - I am absolutely sure I will do at some point! I feel like secondary school only just started but the reality is covid has disguised the first two years and there's only a matter of weeks left before year 9 beckons! My husband is very dismissive of looking into anything at all for a couple of years but I do like to know the options and have all the information to hand! Plus there may be summer things to look at doing next year that would be of benefit to suss places out.

Musicdoc · 22/04/2021 21:25

Ooh exciting news @doesanybodyhaveamap @Operagirl1 @Yr10mom !!!

Good news here too... my ds has got a musician place at NYMT Henrietta.

I feel like things are getting back to normal with summer music courses, although my DD is upset her NCO course was cancelled.

Good luck to all those still waiting 🤞🏽

doesanybodyhaveamap · 22/04/2021 21:34

Congrats @Musicdoc! Have heard lovely things about the Henrietta score 🥰

Congrats to her Musicdoc

lolacharlie43 · 22/04/2021 21:43

Congratulations to you DD @Musicdoc ! Sounds like its only going to be musicians hearing tonight though..the wait continues for the actors ..

Operagirl1 · 22/04/2021 21:49

I just want to say thank you so much to everyone on here. If it wasn't for you all my DD and I would have been completely in the dark about how all of this works. I probably wouldn't have phoned up BYMT either and it might have been too late to correct what had happened. I've learnt a lot from you all. xx

allhailthebrain · 22/04/2021 21:50

Fantastic @Musicdoc! Well done to your ds!

I wish the performer results were out! Every time somebody emails me I have a heart attack!

Yr10mom · 22/04/2021 21:54

Big well done for fellow musician offers today - hope the performers and more musicians don’t have long to wait now x

Biscuitsneeded · 23/04/2021 05:39

Just quickly to say a huge well done to all the musicians getting good news, and to @operagirl1's DD.

Thank you
DalekFan · 23/04/2021 07:38

Sorry a bit late but just catching up with all the good news. Huge congratulations to all getting musician offers and to @Operagirl1 DD for BYMT offer! So happy for you all!

@chaperonemum - have you heard from BYMT yet?

chaperonemum · 23/04/2021 07:53

Hi @DalekFan we heard and as expected it was a no. She knew she hadn't done very well. She had already moved on to some local auditions that came up. Good luck to everyone waiting and who got parts. I'll hang around to see how everyone is getting on x

Ah sorry to hear that @chaperonemum. Glad that your DD has other auditions coming up 😄
Newgirls · 23/04/2021 08:16

So if we do get offered a musician spot when do we have to accept? We won’t know about nyt outcome until mid may?

Operagirl1 · 23/04/2021 08:23

@newgirls we have been told in our offer letter from BYMT when we have to accept by. I don't know if it is the same with the other companies.
