@Lonecatwithkitten that's not really what I'm getting at. If DS gets to go, I couldn't be more delighted. I'm not talking about individual risk (and I think we probably all agree on here that our DC getting to do what they love far outweighs any risk from Covid), but the collective risk to the show from the chances of one individual somehow picking up Covid during the project. Of course they will all need negative tests before arriving and regular testing throughout - but it's in the nature of a show that they cannot rehearse or perform socially distanced. I'm not criticising the two organisations at all, because as things stand they will be allowed to go ahead after 19th and I'm sure that all the creatives, the young people and their families desperately want it all to happen. I'm more wondering what the policy will be, and what if any protective measures can be put in place to protect the show as a whole, in the event of one child testing positive.

Vivalettre · 27/06/2021 21:36

There is always the risk, but I suppose the analogy is being a year group bubble in a boarding school..?. most schools I know have managed to keep their boarders safe this term through a combination of social distancing and testing - obviously that is just our local area though... Or am I missing something?

Biscuitsneeded · 27/06/2021 22:46

That's true I suppose, at least for the residential rehearsal part. Once they get to the cities where they are performing they are just going to have to be very careful and cross fingers very firmly.

Comefromaway · 29/06/2021 11:20

And it's happened. A positive lateral flow test amongst the graduate students so everyone sent home to isolate awaiting pcr results. If that comes back positive, showcase is cancelled.

doesanybodyhaveamap · 29/06/2021 11:40

oh no @Comefromaway that's so awful! Have to confess, I've been refusing to engage with worrying about this, but yesterdays infection numbers were so high and have doubled in a week... Unless they change the rules about kids isolating things are looking more and more risky, aren't they? It's just unbearable.

Mcmumager · 29/06/2021 11:41

@Comefromaway that is so sad and disappointing for them. Will cross fingers things work out.

Comefromaway · 29/06/2021 11:44

The kids think the pcr will be positive. They all do a lateral flow test on a Sunday which were all nagative but this student started to feel a bit off colour/achy yesterday so took an extra lateral flow as a precaution.

Comefromaway · 29/06/2021 12:11

They've got a back up plan (the showcase was originally supposed to be 2 weeks ago but was already postponed once due to multiple positive cases.

They are going to stay an extra week. On the day the 10 days isolation ends they will go back into class and have a tech/dress run the following day. They will then perform for family on the Saturday afternoon followed by drinks/nibbles where they can dress up in their (cancelled) prom outfits. It won't be as polished but it will be something.

doesanybodyhaveamap · 29/06/2021 13:25

Good that there is a plan B x

Comefromaway · 29/06/2021 13:27

I think at this point we are actually on Plan C!

DalekFan · 01/07/2021 20:19

@Anjoujo and @Vivalettre any news for your DDs? 🤞🤞

Anjoujo · 01/07/2021 21:25

Hi @DalekFan, nothing yet from the BYMT - maybe I should call? Eek!

Vivalettre · 01/07/2021 21:30

Hi @DalekFan nothing for us either .... I did chase Hannah a couple of days ago but no response as yet ...Confused

Vivalettre · 02/07/2021 17:15

So... DD is on the reserve list! Very exciting but I suspect she won't be able to do it even if she got offered a place as she's now only available for about two and a half weeks in August...Sad...
Does anyone know if the residentials for the shows are all for a full three weeks? The website says 2-3 weeks but I've only ever heard of BYMT doing three-week residentials....

Vivalettre · 02/07/2021 17:20

By the way, @Anjoujo, if you haven't heard by now definitely worth contacting them (probably on Monday now). Hannah said my DD should have received an e-mail before about being a reserve, so there must have been a glitch somewhere as we definitely didn't receive anything...

Lonecatwithkitten · 03/07/2021 06:47

@Vivalettre A.L.I.C.E in 2019 was 13 days from drop off on a Monday lunchtime to final pick up on a Sunday morning - so yes some are 2weeks.

From discussions it seems the more individual roles has the more likely it is to be 3 weeks ( so time for casting etc). But there is quite a bit of variation.

Vivalettre · 03/07/2021 12:48

Thanks @Lonecatwithkitten - gives us some hope!! I guess A.L.I.C.E would have had a few casting days as well earlier in the year?

Fingers crossed for anyone else still waiting...!

No it was a devised show, the only thing that existing at the beginning of the 2 weeks was a title and a single song. Everything else was created in the 2 weeks of rehearsal.
Comefromaway · 03/07/2021 20:50

Dd tested positive today. She is devastated. 8 years of vocational school is now over. No showcase, no goodbyes.

Mcmumager · 03/07/2021 21:03

@Comefromaway that is so very sad. I hope she doesn’t feel too poorly to add to her misery.

Biscuitsneeded · 03/07/2021 21:09

@Comefromaway I'm so sorry to read that. This virus has wreaked such misery. I hope your poor DD doesn't feel too grotty, and that the rest of your household escapes.

I am so sorry for her, that is just so unfair. The virus has caused so much havoc to so many. Hope you all stay well.
Comefromaway · 03/07/2021 22:37

Physically she’s fine. A slightly dry throat. She’s double jabbed. Mentally she’s devastated.

Comefromaway · 03/07/2021 22:38

She’s not at home. She’s in halls of residence.

Belshels · 04/07/2021 09:39

So sorry to hear that, and sad for her. Sending hugs x
