I have to say I am getting worried. The residential for Peter Pan is meant to start on 18 July, so a 4 week delay to restrictions being lifted would just about be OK. Any longer and I think it would be cancelled as would other shows. 😞

Mcmumager · 12/06/2021 12:22

It is getting close to the wire for things but I guess it’s how things are classified.

I’d assumed Peter Pan is an outdoor performance so that might be in their favour?

I just hope all these kids get to perform. I’ve been chatting to my son about it today. He’s so excited and we were talking about that buzz they get on stage and how it’s almost hard to remember how that felt.

Comefromaway · 14/06/2021 13:55

Does the leaked, confirmed delay affect any productions?

Biscuitsneeded · 14/06/2021 17:36

I don't know TBH. DS's production with NYMT starts rehearsing 24.07 so fingers firmly crossed for that. 4 weeks is OK for us, as long as things do lift after that - but I wonder if venues will get jittery? And who knows what the virus will do in the next 4 weeks? No idea what to think really...

Biscuitsneeded · 14/06/2021 17:37

Hope others on here with earlier starts aren't affected. School terms in England don't finish till around 23rd July anyway but am aware that may be different if there are BYMT projects in Scotland or Northern Ireland.

DalekFan · 14/06/2021 18:01

Well for the Peter Pan residential rehearsals they are meant to arrive on Sunday 18 July, so that might have to move to the Monday (as long as everything opens then!). It was meant to be Tuesday 20 July, but they brought it forward a couple of days, as they couldn’t do the half term casting residential due to lockdown advice against non-school residentials.

Mcmumager · 14/06/2021 18:02

The BYMT for Peter Pan starts on the 18th of July.

Biscuitsneeded · 14/06/2021 18:47

Blimey that's early. Won't a lot of the cast still have school that week? Fingers crossed they can just move the start to the Monday morning (and you'll all need a hotel the previous night - MORE money! Wink) and otherwise all can run smoothly.

Is Peter Pan still at Powderham Castle? What are the performance dates?

Biscuitsneeded · 14/06/2021 18:51

TBH what worries me more is what happens if a company member tests positive?? If the whole cast have to isolate then the project is stuffed, no? Even if they establish that vaccines are keeping hospitalisations and deaths low, and therefore it's OK to open up, the kids have not been vaccinated and will be coming from all over. I'm sure they will make them test before arriving and regularly during the project, but short of locking them all away it's going to be a major worry throughout. Unless the guidance changes to only the affected individual has to isolate and close contacts just keep testing daily - but to be honest if one of them gets it they won't be an isolated case, will they, when you see how it transmits in schools...

Biscuitsneeded · 14/06/2021 18:51

Sorry to be such an Eeyore but I really worry how it will work.

Comefromaway · 14/06/2021 19:05

It is an issue.

The one positive case at DD’s college happened after half term. Several had stayed in the area but some had been home. Everyone did a test on the Sunday. Classes on the Monday. Tuesday someone tested positive. Everyone in his year sent home. One of his flat mates then tested positive. By the end of Wednesday there were several more positives and the entire college sent home to isolate.

Mcmumager · 14/06/2021 21:39

Trying to stay positive as ds so excited for BYMT and the thought of it is keeping him smiling during current exams but I’m with you all in worrying about what happens if positive cases etc.

Dilemma- do I go ahead and book some Devon accommodation 😂

Comefromaway · 15/06/2021 11:32

Because half the year has covid and the rest are isolating grad showcase has been moved from 24th June to the 1st July.

1st July is the date of my 2nd (Moderna) vaccination. I'm in a dilemma now as to whether I should try and move the vaccination as I'm not sure about travelling 45 miles and back straight afterwards.

Comefromaway · 15/06/2021 11:52

I managed to change the appointment.

Lonecatwithkitten · 15/06/2021 22:25

Just booked mine tonight through booking.com I can cancel up to 30/7 free of charge. Have stayed away from home a single night since Feb 20 and now July and August have 12 whole nights away booked.
Mcmumager · 15/06/2021 23:07

Oh exciting @Lonecatwithkitten - I’ve bought tickets for the show but spent all night looking for accommodation and not found anything really! Will need to book soon or there will be nothing left!

Belshels · 16/06/2021 06:55

Good luck in booking, a lot of hotels and Air BNB places you have until 48 hours before to cancel.

I booked for Plymouth a while ago as elderly mum is coming and need a disabled room, which were very few and far between. Devon has become pretty booked up I hear, but try Air BNB too🤞🏼
We are also super lucky as the dates for the show moved forward a week (we found out a couple of weeks ago) and the hotel amazingly managed to free up the disabled room for those dates.

Mcmumager · 16/06/2021 19:16

Managed to find something in Torquay so will have a few days at the seaside. Smile

Yr10mom · 16/06/2021 20:35

also so getting a bit worried for summer - 5 cases on Dd school today and three years in isolation while they contact trace, and local authority has instructed all schools to stop performances, transition days etc etc until sept. so even if the four week period holds, not sure if some accom/venues will be able to host such large groups from so many areas? guess nymt will let us know soon - fingers crossed foe the young people 🤞

Lonecatwithkitten · 16/06/2021 21:45

Very excited today - DD has been contacted to be a digital media champion for BYMT taking photos and making videos of the whole show process. Really great opportunity for get.

Comefromaway · 16/06/2021 22:22

There are over 20 cases in the Upper School (3 year 6th form) and with between 28-35 students per year that’s a lot.

I’ve just cancelled our trip to dds city to see In The Heights at the cinema. It’s an area people are not supposed to travel out of and I dint want to risk Ds as the only unvaccinated one of us.

Dd has been told that once they come out of isolation of Friday to go from accommodation to school and back again until showcase is over. So she wasn’t comfortable coming out with us.

feelinhopeful · 17/06/2021 16:50

OMG she's got into The legend of the White Bear Lake! I'm absolutely flabbergasted, and she's at dancing so I can't even tell her!! Doing a little happy dance in my kitchen!!

Mcmumager · 17/06/2021 17:37

@feelinhopeful congratulations to your dd. That must be a new one? They seem to be adding different shows this week.

feelinhopeful · 17/06/2021 18:01

@Mcmumager it's not on the website so definitely looks like they are adding new show(s) (although this one's not actually new as they did it in 2016 according to the archives).

We live overseas so need to fly, it's based in Shropshire, does anyone know how easy this is to access from Manchester airport?

Mcmumager · 17/06/2021 18:05

@feelinhopeful exactly where is it to be and I’ll check but I don’t think Manchester the best option.
