Starting a new thread for NYMT / BYMT hopefuls in 2021.

DD13 is auditioning for NYMT for the second time as stage performer and as musician. We just received an invite to the next round (online workshops).

She was gutted that Covid put a stop to her show (Imaginary) last year so we are keeping everything crossed that she gets another shot.

We've also booked a BYMT audition and she's already in the musician pool there so hopefully a show of some sort this year if we get some kind of normality back again...

Anyone else out there?

oh have they extended again? his odd if they have so many applicants?

Am I the only cynical one thinking every audition is £10 so they might as well get as many as possible?

They usually have a 1000 or more audition for NYMT so probably right. They must have had loads apply after the initial deadline then!

Think there is some confusion here. They haven't extended the NYMT performer audition deadline. It closed end of Feb. DS not a musician so I don't know about that, but they may have extended the musicians' deadline even if they have lots of applicants, if there are still instruments they need and haven't seen enough of yet. I think I read somewhere that Hunchback is going to have a LOT of musicians! Also, I think £10 is very reasonable as a first payment. They have to do the admin and probably pay at least two creatives (for acting and song) to review each video. OK I'm sure they do them in batches and knock off a few in an hour, but even so, the money has to come from somewhere!

Exactly that @Biscuitsneeded , I was missing on this with a friend earlier. Yes think they do need more than usual because of hunchback and they may have seen 100 violinists but no oboes so therefore are keeping it open longer. Stage choir applications are also still open, and a while ago there was a call out specifically for tenors and basses...

£10 not bad at all as an audition fee, other organisations charge A LOT more, even for video auditions.

Also if deadline extended because they need more tubas/clarinets/violas etc it won't slow up offers others I wouldn't have thought. But I still think we may have to wait until after stage castings are done.

Ah ok the fee in itself isn’t a lot. Do they actually say ‘we need oboes’ etc? That would make sense

No, they haven't yet. But they may put a tweet out encouraging applications from x,y,z instrument if they get really stuck. We responded to one for viola players a few years back but DD wasn't quite ready.

They did put out a call for specific choice types a few weeks ago

Our email said offers should be put out on Friday 26th March, so we’re waiting patiently to hear
