Starting a new thread for NYMT / BYMT hopefuls in 2021.

DD13 is auditioning for NYMT for the second time as stage performer and as musician. We just received an invite to the next round (online workshops).

She was gutted that Covid put a stop to her show (Imaginary) last year so we are keeping everything crossed that she gets another shot.

We've also booked a BYMT audition and she's already in the musician pool there so hopefully a show of some sort this year if we get some kind of normality back again...

Anyone else out there?

My dd enjoyed her audition this morning. She said everyone was brilliant. She couldn’t really assess how it had gone but she was happy so honestly that is what matters. They did say at the end that there is one more week of auditions next weekend and that it would be a few weeks until they hear if they get a recall. We are relaxed either way. Obviously it would be lovely to get a recall but I think she may be at a tricky age for the next couple of years, she is 14 but 5ft 9, so definitely can’t get away with a child’s role and not old enough for an adult. I think the audition is valuable experience in itself. Still waiting to hear re Stage Choir and I assume height may not matter for that, so we will see. Glad the others taking part this weekend have enjoyed it. The waiting continues.......... where is the wine?

@Newgirls yes my DS has also applied for NYT-I can see they have viewed the video but nothing yet.

@Newgirls Think there may be a few on here. My dd has put all her eggs in NYMT’s basket though so I’m not the best person to help.

My DS has also applied for NYT but only submitted his video yesterday so I wouldn't be expecting any news yet!! .

I think it says on their site that they will hear by some time in mid April if they have a recall, and the recall slots get filled as they go, so I hope he hasn't left it too late. He really wants NYMT because that's what he knows, but we have to be realistic about chances so no harm in throwing another iron in the fire. NYT did an online workshop with his school a few weeks ago and he absolutely loved it - I suspect it's completely his kind of thing, so if by some miracle he got it (thousands apply for I think 700 places?) he'd be pretty happy.

Ah now you’ve said that I think they had rolling deadlines? We got it done in half term. So mid April makes sense thanks.

Totally new here too! There’s a few of us newbies. It’s not easy to negotiate it all!

It is so complicated this year, I agree, so different from previous years. Hopefully not too long to wait for BYMT anyway. We are not expecting a 2nd show offer for dd as they probably realise it would be a bit much to do 2 shows of 2 -3 weeks each in the summer hols.
The only option would be Peter Pan and think that may be cast from last year.

Hi everyone, well my son got an email yesterday from BYMT to say he’s been added to the musician pool 👏
He’s also sent an audition to NYMT as a musician but yet to hear from them yet, although it looks like they have extended the audition window for musicians.
Any other musicians got an email yesterday adding them to the pool?

My ds got the email last night confirming he was in the musician pool also for BYMT, so we’ve just updated the poll sent with availability. Still waiting to hear from NYMT

Hi @Janet25 ! DD is in the BYMT musician pool, she was accepted last year. We have sent back the availability poll and are waiting to see which show she will be offered.

Also waiting on NYMT musician news but they have been watching the videos (according to YouTube analytics 🤣)

What Instrument does your DD play?

@Janet25 she plays violin and viola. How about your DS?

He’s percussion, so the full broad range of tuned and untuned.

Here’s hoping we hear soon. Did NYMT extend the audition closing date to 28th March?

@Janet25 They seem to have extended again but I'm not sure of new date. Yet in a recent email told me they had received more applications for musician than ever before!

Last year musician offers went out after stage performer castings had been made (I guess because some like DD apply as both) but I'm not sure if they will do that again this year. If they do, it could be a long wait for musician outcomes yet...

ps huge kudos to all percussionists! we are big fans in this house. Went to watch the BBCYM category finals last year to support two friends who were taking part - it amazes me how these kids become so completely proficient on so many instruments!!!!!

I saw that they said they had received lots so that’s why I was confused to see the deadline extended. Hopefully not too long to wait x x

As a keyboard player I know ds's chances are slim.

Last week a friend of dh's who is involved with BYMT and had seen a video of ds and dh playing together suggested he audition. But hasn't that date passed? Plus BYMT want a video of 2 pieces. We struggled to get one together for NYMT as ds is very much an ensemble player, he doesn't really learn solo pieces. Would it be acceptable to play an accompaniment with someone singing?
