NYMT / BYMT 2021

Starting a new thread for NYMT / BYMT hopefuls in 2021.

DD13 is auditioning for NYMT for the second time as stage performer and as musician. We just received an invite to the next round (online workshops).

She was gutted that Covid put a stop to her show (Imaginary) last year so we are keeping everything crossed that she gets another shot.

We've also booked a BYMT audition and she's already in the musician pool there so hopefully a show of some sort this year if we get some kind of normality back again...

Anyone else out there?

@chuffedtolittlemintballs glad he enjoyed it! And even if he doesn’t get in this time-don’t give up! DS was also 12 when he first auditioned and he finally successful last year at 16. Sadly of course he didn’t get to perform but he’s hopeful for this year. Follow your dreams! And welcome to the waiting room. Hopefully there are drinks somewhere...Grin

Alakazam8 · 10/03/2021 14:28

Glad to see more in the waiting room...think will wait and see next Monday and if I’ve still not heard then email in. Ive already had to email them before applying so don’t want to appear pushy/demanding! Just wish I’d heard by now !

chuffedtolittlemintballs · 10/03/2021 14:32

@doesanybodyhaveamap I think it's two months since we submitted the video so it does feel like a long time - but hopefully it won't be long now until we are put out of our misery!

@minimits it must have been gutting for your son and the children who got selected last year but couldn't do the show. I hope they all get the chance again this year!

Good luck to everyone auditioning this week and to those who have yet to hear!

doesanybodyhaveamap · 10/03/2021 15:14

Yup. 4th January we submitted our videos.... This is killing me....

Also in the category of having had a place last year and lost out due to Covid so doubly anxious! She's not confident following the workshop though, so if it's going to be a no I just want to know so we can both have a good cry about how unfair the world is and get over it.

We submitted our videos Feb half term and heard back this Monday

DalekFan · 10/03/2021 16:23

Seems to be a bit random then when you will hear. We submitted ours on 20 Feb, so after you @Notaclue08, and we heard back on Monday 1st March.

Biscuitsneeded · 10/03/2021 19:33

@Alakazam8

If you're concerned, could you try emailing the links to the videos to a trusted friend to see if they can open them? If you're still concerned, I think I would email NYMT. Honestly they are very nice, and if you explain that you are concerned you made a mistake I'm sure they will be able to reassure you. @DalekFan I suspect the slight randomness is because they are sending the videos to different creatives to watch, and some may be able to review more quickly and pass to the next person than others, which then affects the date by which they are in a position to decide whether to recall or not.

Welcome to @Notaclue08 and @chuffedtolittlemintballs. It's very nice in this waiting room. We're all pacing up and down slightly but we're friendly!

Yr10mom · 10/03/2021 21:57

sounds like still a view workshops to go ....i wonder if they will start musician workshops then?

Mumofteens20 · 10/03/2021 22:05

Hi. My DD who is 14 also applied this year for the first time. She sent her tapes off on 29 Jan and had a zoom audition on 28 Feb. Been following this chat and hope you don’t mind me waiting with you too! Good luck to all your DC. Hope the wait isn’t too much longer to hear

Biscuitsneeded · 11/03/2021 06:43

Hello @Mumofteens20. Nice to have you with us and good luck to your DD.

mumsareglam · 11/03/2021 09:57

Hi all, good luck to everyone waiting and those still to audition. I just popped in to say if you submitted videos via YouTube you can see when and how many times they've been viewed.

Alakazam8 · 11/03/2021 14:39

Wish I’d submitted through you tube! You can’t see if someone has accessed it on the app I used.
I think if I’ve heard nothing by next week I’ll send a quick email to them just to make atm hi
I’ve put some comfy chairs in the waiting room so people can have a break from the pacing if they want to! Lovely to see a couple more new people joining us!

lowbudgetnigella · 11/03/2021 22:18

Very new to this . I've booked my DS 13 in for a BYMT workshop in couple of weeks. Not quite sure what to expect, he is confident but not trained as in stage school or dance. He was a chorister but his voice is still very much in transition. We see it as experience of how if all works so maybe next year when his voice is stronger. Is that sensible? Any advice?

minimits · 11/03/2021 22:31

Hey @lowbudgetnigella welcome to the waiting room! I can’t help with the format of BYMT zoom workshops as DS has only done face to face ones but I can say they are always very friendly and fun in person and sure they will be on zoom. I wouldn’t worry about not being trained in stage school or dance-they’re looking for a range of performers and some shows really don’t have much if any dance really. The transition year is HARD but definitely really sensible to go for it anyway as the worst that can happen is that he gets to have a fun time and knows what to expect next year! Although I really hope they aren’t doing zoom auditions by then....

lowbudgetnigella · 12/03/2021 18:22

Thanks , yes that's how we see it. He I will enjoy it as a workshop anyway

chaperonemum · 12/03/2021 19:15

Hi @lowbudgetnigella My DD did a BYMT zoom workshop a few weeks back. They did some singing, some dance and they were split into small groups and did some improv. I hope your DS enjoys it.

DalekFan · 13/03/2021 09:30

All the best to the DCs who have workshops this weekend. Hope they enjoy themselves! 😄

chaperonemum · 13/03/2021 10:08

Awe thank you @DalekFan I'm trying to sort out enough space and replan the gardening work we wanted to do (right outside the window). DD is hyped and excited. She loves an audition! Good luck all

DalekFan · 13/03/2021 10:13

Haha @chaperonemum, I sympathise with you on the space issue. We were kicked out of our kitchen for both the BYMT and NYMT workshops!

Biscuitsneeded · 13/03/2021 14:24

I have good news and bad news. The young people who had their NYMT workshop this morning were apparently told there are two more weekends of workshops. So for those still waiting for news since submitting , you haven't been missed and you are most likely due an email very soon. For those who did their workshop weeks ago, the wait for news goes on.... aaagh!!

DalekFan · 13/03/2021 14:44

On DDs workshop last Saturday, they were told it would about a month before they heard anything. So beginning of April to wait until I presume. 😬

chaperonemum · 13/03/2021 16:09

Does anyone know out of interest how many roughly have been in each zoom workshop for NYMT?

DalekFan · 13/03/2021 16:21

From DDs workshop, I think there was about 40 across the whole session, and they got split into 2 groups of approx 20 to do the dance and script work. So whilst one group does dance the other does acting and then they swap.
