NYMT / BYMT 2021

Starting a new thread for NYMT / BYMT hopefuls in 2021.

DD13 is auditioning for NYMT for the second time as stage performer and as musician. We just received an invite to the next round (online workshops).

She was gutted that Covid put a stop to her show (Imaginary) last year so we are keeping everything crossed that she gets another shot.

We've also booked a BYMT audition and she's already in the musician pool there so hopefully a show of some sort this year if we get some kind of normality back again...

Anyone else out there?

I must confess this is getting me down a bit. They told DD 'up to a month' and today it's a month since her workshop. We've also heard not a dickie bow about her musician application. After all the ups and downs of last year it's quite tough.

Yes DS was quite down today (doesn’t help he’s just on his forth isolation). Hopefully those that were told a month a month ago will hear something next week. Fingers crossed! This is tough indeed!

doesanybodyhaveamap · 13/03/2021 18:06

And if there's 2 weeks of workshops left, with 40 kids in each workshop that's 160 per weekend so roughly 1120 in the workshops....

Morning all! New to this thread..... just to say ‘Hello and we’re waiting...,,’ after NYMT Zoom audition. Not applied before, never uploaded videos to Youtube. I did message to ask if the videos worked and got a lovely reply straight away. They even checked the videos for me. The waiting is agony lol!

Alakazam8 · 14/03/2021 08:33

Thanks @theatremumtake2 will email this week if I don’t hear anything tomorrow. It’s harder to wait this year as there’s not much else going on and this seems like a real hope for more normality for them. Break a leg to all those waiting. Tomorrow should be a busy day on here!

chaperonemum · 14/03/2021 14:15

My DD had her nymt workshop his morning. She's raving about how good it was and how lovely the people were. She didn't feel that she did very well with the bymt workshop so this has given her confidence back. At least if the journey ends here, she's had a great timeSmile. Now just to join you others waiting. She was told middle of April.

Biscuitsneeded · 14/03/2021 14:25

Welcome @theatremumtake2, and @chaperonemum, I'm glad your DD enjoyed herself. You can join us pacing up and down now!

@chaperonemum does your DD think they meant middle of April for even recall news (aaaaagh!) or for final decisions?

chaperonemum · 14/03/2021 14:29

@Biscuitsneeded DD said it would be for recalls where they would ask them to sing something from one of their current shows. I'm sure there was more to it but she can't remember.

Biscuitsneeded · 14/03/2021 14:49

Thanks @chaperonemum.

I'm only speculating but by piecing the bits of evidence gleaned on here I think we are looking at 2 more weekends of workshops, which takes us to Sunday 28th March, emails to say either no thanks or yes you have a recall not long after that, then Easter weekend where nothing will happen, and then possibly online recalls weekend of 10/11 April and final decisions after that - which would tally with the 'middle of April' comment.
In the past recalls have included some dance (either taught there and then or by a video sent out previously and then performed on the day - hope they do that again as much easier than trying to follow over zoom), some singing of songs from the show they are recalled for, and some acting scenes. Both the music and script (and audio tracks as guides) are sent out in advance but you don't have to learn the script.

chaperonemum · 14/03/2021 18:59

@Biscuitsneeded that would be great if it's the case. I guess this year is different to the usual way they do things. Quite how they watch all these different people on zoom and chose from them must be so difficult.
I'm guessing bymt will be around the same time. Does anyone know?

Alakazam8 · 15/03/2021 09:10

They’ve still got some initial videos to look at so may be a few more weeks before everyone hears about zoom workshop results I’m afraid. Maybe they had a lot of later entries and it’s taken them longer than they thought.
What biscuits is saying fits in with the little I’ve heard too. Hope some of us hear today!

Yr10mom · 15/03/2021 10:46

i wonder if that puts musicians into late april/early may? and whether there will be on line workshops first which presumably will
push decisions to late may. i really feel for them but dear they may lose some musicians as other opps start to firm up or just because poplar want some certainty - to wait so long and then get a no would be tough (dc submitted in january)

Yr10mom · 15/03/2021 10:50

sorry typos 🥺

Yes, for us as a family it would mean putting a hold on the various dates involved (and we want to get booking theatre tickets as we are getting withdrawal symptoms).
Triflefan · 15/03/2021 12:06

I just saw the tweet too. That’s reassuring. They must be cursing all the late-comers! I hope DS will be in this week’s decision emails. Not sure I can cope with the anticipation 😆
Let’s hope we all hear this afternoon

doesanybodyhaveamap · 15/03/2021 12:12

Ok I've taken one for the team and sent an email asking about timelines for stage performers and musicians. Tried to sound as not-desperate as possible (probably failed...). Will keep you posted!

OP posts:
Comefromaway · 15/03/2021 12:14

I'm sure they would prefer one person to ask on our behalf rather than be inundated with emails from us all!

minimits · 15/03/2021 12:38

@doesanybodyhaveamap you are a star!

doesanybodyhaveamap · 15/03/2021 12:39

Or.... My impatience has just cost my DD her place!

OP posts:
Yr10mom · 15/03/2021 12:59

thank you!

Comefromaway · 15/03/2021 12:59

I'm sure it won't have an impact.

doesanybodyhaveamap · 15/03/2021 13:01

Ok reply pretty much confirms what we know. Workshops continue this month, show specific recalls in April.

Musician auditions - they've received more than ever. Currently being assessed then will be provisionally sorted according to each show. No further info re what happens then.

Keen to get results out quickly but also want to get it right...

OP posts:
minimits · 15/03/2021 13:09

So assume if they auditioned a month ago they still won’t hear until April if they have a show specific recall?

chuffedtolittlemintballs · 15/03/2021 13:09

Thanks for asking them @doesanybodyhaveamap - it's so helpful to have an idea of when we might hear one way or the other and at least we are on the home straight in terms of the waiting period now...

Good luck to everyone still hoping to hear about the workshops, hope you hear soon!
