Yey my chip time was 2:03:32

Wallace · 20/10/2009 15:47

So that is over 11 minues faster than last year

popsycal · 20/10/2009 18:40

:L)l

Twink · 20/10/2009 19:49

Yikes, been tied up with RL for a few days & have missed loads by the look of things!

Well done that Wallace Cracking effort!

Sorry to hear about your FiL Saggars, I must admit I'd wondered where you were. It's a bloodly awful disease, my sympathy to you and your dh.

Low times in Twink Towers at the moment as we've discovered that the muscle wastage Mr T has been suffering is due to prolonged use of a steroid, not his cancer so a lot of his current mobility issues could have been avoided if the medics had picked up on it sooner (rather than me via Google!!). Unfortunately, despite his high levels of determination, he's unlikely to regain any of the lost muscle which makes him very dependent on me - but I still won't cancel his gym membership, we'll never completely give up hope!! I'm toying with the idea of entering a Half Ironman as I didn't get into London - it'd keep my mind off things wouldn't it!?? What do you guys reckon?

Love the idea of the BG too Hat, I loved the book and there's a little bit of me that thinks maybe, just maybe....

Wallace · 20/10/2009 20:15

Hi Twink, sorry to hear things haven't been good. Have been wondering where you were and hoping all was okay.

Do enter the Half Ironman, always helps to have a goal As I've decided to leave marathon til 2011 I think I will try to do lots of Tris next year - definitley nothing like half ironman distance though!

sfxmum · 20/10/2009 20:22

sticky well done
was planning on doing that one but did not train enough to feel confident

twink (always reminds me of dinnerladies)
sorry to hear steroids can be helpful but are a bugger for side effects
imho whatever helps you do it and I can see how you want to keep the membership going

the Murakami boob is called 'what I talk about when I talk about running

sfxmum · 20/10/2009 20:24

Wallace · 20/10/2009 20:37

popsycal · 20/10/2009 20:44

Thanks wallace. Don't know where Aldi is so will check their website as seems they are great for running stuff according to this thread.

Och Twink, that is rough, but again am in awe of your positive approach to life. What does a half iron involve? I sounds tough so am sure you'd be great!

stickylittlefingers · 21/10/2009 11:19

yes - Richmond N Yorks - I did see the other Richmond advertised and thought it looked a lot more sensible. But it is very pretty, like you say Peach, and it was pretty cool finishing in the castle.

I had a funny thing in the goodie bag tho - a small towel slightly larger than a beer mat. Not sure whether I'm meant to mop my fevered brow with it or what. It's lovely and white at the moment so I'm loathe to spoil it!

Re ultra people you could try Lizzie's site Lizzie which I find terrifying and inspiring simultaneously (I tried the running lightly thing, but with the hills in Richmond I found running at all was about as much as I could manage! To be aimed at...)

peachsmuggler · 21/10/2009 12:04

Oh, I meant the one Daaaarrrn Sarrrf sticky, but I bet the yorkshire one is better!

Have you considered the possibilty that it was a sanitary towel?

stickylittlefingers · 21/10/2009 21:06

I wouldn't want the PMT before needing that... Could start a war!

Twink · 22/10/2009 10:20

Yikes!!!!!!!!!!!!! My entry to UK Ironman 70.3 2010 is 'pending' subject to acceptance by Ironman.

Not told anyone in RL yet, may keep it quiet for a while. [quaking in boots emoticon]

JJ · 22/10/2009 12:45

Wow on the half Ironman. Sorry to hear about your husband, Twink. Agree with keeping gym membership, sounds sensible. The Ironman, sensible or not, sounds like a great idea.

Murakami's boob is on its way to me (how many does the poor man have?). I am looking forward to reading it! I don't think I could do any sort of extreme running or even a marathon. This June I am doing a sprint distance triathlon which sounds piddly now!

Wallace · 22/10/2009 13:11

Twink - respect! Have you seen the elevation on those courses

stickylittlefingers · 22/10/2009 13:22

the Ironman competition looks amazing and terrifying! We used to go to Wimbleball for afternoon picnics - scary scary scary. My utmost respect to anyone who would even think of doing such things.

Wow.

MoshiMoshi · 23/10/2009 13:56

Twink - sorry to hear about Mr Twink but am glad you are focusing on something like a half ironman. I would love to join you for the UK Half Ironman if I could work out the logistics of training for it... My friend, who started triathlons with me, went on to do it the following year (while I was pregnant with DC4) and managed to do it and enjoy it! She was never the most sporty person at school but was completely thrown by the enthusiasm and camaraderie at triathlons so thought of progressing to a half iron after doing just a season of 6 or so sprint and olympic distance races. As she comes from Devon, the UK Ironman was perfect for her and her friends and family all turned out for the day to support her. Have you done many triathlons before? What sort of distances have you trained for? From what I have heard, if you are used to training for olympic distances then it is not a great deal more to move to the middle distance races. Am very envious and you will have to keep a training blog here so I can experience it all vicariously!

Happy running everyone. Am mid-way through half term and suffering from not being able to do my usual daily run [twitch twitch].

Themasterandmargaritas · 23/10/2009 17:40

Wow twink!

I am still at the beach and will catch up properly tomorrow on my return.

IdrisTheDragon · 24/10/2009 15:24

I did my 10k run for the Nike plus event this morning .

Am very impressed with myself as it was the first time I have ever gone that far and did it in about 64 minutes .

soyabean · 24/10/2009 15:43

Well done Idris! Did you enjoy it?
I drank too much last night and woke up really not feeling like a run so haven't left the house...Tomorrow I will try.

peachsmuggler · 24/10/2009 16:48

Well done idris. Great time for your first 10k you must be dead chuffed!

IdrisTheDragon · 24/10/2009 20:26

I did quite like it. Surprised myself by leaving the house at about 20 past 8 (think I surprised DH as well ).

Was quite good it was a "race" where people all over the world are doing it at different times and in different places so only I (and the various other runners I saw while out) got to see me . Did wonder if any of them were doing a similar thing.
