Hope you've all been to Aldi this week for their running kit?

hatwoman · 18/10/2009 21:12

well I'm 5'1" on a good day. So I really haven't got much to lose...

popsycal · 18/10/2009 21:15

jj i prwfer the bupa training plans to runners world - slihghtly more realistic for [people with children imo :

popsycal · 18/10/2009 21:18

hatwooman - i felt thesame the first time i did ten (further down this thread :)

hatwoman · 18/10/2009 21:20

just google height loss and marathons - it's more like half an inch - and apparently you lose height during a normal day anyway.

hatwoman · 18/10/2009 21:21

sorry - that was meant to say "just googled" - it wasn;t meant to be an instruction!

popsycal · 18/10/2009 21:23
Smile
Wheelybug · 18/10/2009 22:03

Argh - I am 5 foot nothing (at full stretch) - maybe I'll have to rethink long term goal of running a marathon !!

hatwoman · 18/10/2009 23:31

have I ever mentioned the Bob Graham round to you lot? It's the ultimate fell run - and while I'll never do it (when you click on it you'll see why) I have become a real fan of the whole thing. Well, the other day I discovered that a friend of a friend (who I've met) did it this spring. I'm so in awe and so excited at the idea of meeting him and grilling him all about it. In fact unhealthily so. (must dash now - dh back and he feels uncomfy when I mention BG)

Wallace · 19/10/2009 06:56

Yes I see why you'll never do that, hat! Me neither, but how awe-inspiring.

lapsedrunner(still lapsed?) - yes I am dressed top to toe in Aldi

Re losing height during a marathon: At our running club do we had a lady from jogscotland as our special guest. She has run 8 marathons and she was very short

girlsyearapart · 19/10/2009 08:04

Sorry to hear you were feeling bad hat
It does become a bit of a worry when you're feeling ill.

Managed 2 decent runs and a boxing class this week.

Should've read this thread sooner. Walked past an Aldi yesterday.

Had bad weekend with almost no help from DH (who is I hope suffering from major hangover at this moment and who will shortly find himself dealing with 2 small children for the day )
Hope to run later.

Was it wheely who lives near me??
Thinking of running with a club called stragglers. Run from Hawkers in kingston on Thursday nights and from Kingfisher on Mondays. They may be called Littlefeet on a monday.. Any news you have on them?

hatwoman · 19/10/2009 10:23

girls - I didn;t realise you lived in that neck of the woods - me too until January! We still have a house in Kingston (rented out) and we're renting up here - undecided about what the long-term holds - said we'd do it for 2 years and then see...it's great running territory, with the river and the parks. There's a club that runs from the Dysart pub - just beyond Ham as you go towards Richmond. I never got round to joining a club - mainly because I only ever found the Dysart one and it seemed a bit silly to either get in the car, or run 3-odd miles, to go on a run. If I'd known there was one that ran from Kingfisher I reckon I would have joined - that's a 5 minute walk from my house. (If we find another thing we have in common I'l start to get a bit spooked...).

sfxmum · 19/10/2009 11:07

hi all very short run yesterday for me, we have no heating or hot water very annoying - where is that plumber?

well done with all the impressive results

am thinking I might join the Sheen Shufflers running club they seem to mostly run in Richmond Park, I have been thinking about it for a year so should really stop the thinking and get on with it

I ran to a supermarket, got small amount of shopping and ran/walked back .

Legs still seem to work after their week off running which is good.

Wheelybug · 19/10/2009 15:57

girlsyearapart - yes it is me that is nr Kingston (Hat - I thought you were from round these parts too. I think we spoke about cleaners once or piano tuners or maybe both !). SFX is another nr. richmond parker too I see !

I have read about that running club - I think its part of Kingston Running Club. Ihad thought about it but DH is almost never in from work before 8 at the very earliest, usually later so can't get out.

Didn't get out for my outsidey run yesterday - grrr- mainly because we were out for the day and didn't get back until late so good reasons but was a shame.

morethanyoubargainfor · 19/10/2009 18:45

well done everybody, have only been out twice in the last few weeks as been feeling unwell, just been to the doctors and apparently i have swine flu with a secondary chest infection! No wonder i was feeling rough and breathless, oops maybe i should have gone sooner

popsycal · 19/10/2009 19:15

forhatwoman

hatwoman · 19/10/2009 19:41

thanks popsy - i saw them this morning - they're all gorgsoues aren;t they? the fell running one is ace.

popsycal · 19/10/2009 19:52

i saw the fell running one and thoguht of you

Wallace · 19/10/2009 19:56

I've just started reading an autobiography called "The Ultra Marathon Man" and at the moment he is doing a hundred mile race through some vast mountains

girlsyearapart · 19/10/2009 20:47

Yes local ladies it is a lovely place to run but now it's dark at 7 when the dds are in bed I'm not seeing much of it!

Did 40 mins on the treadmill then an aqua class.

May look into that club that runs from Dysart. We are in Ham about half way between there and the Hawker centre.

JJ · 20/10/2009 08:13

Am very jealous of the fell running. It looks amazing but very difficult. I am trying to figure out where I can do the longer runs here. Going round and round the park gets old after a while. Probably the canals after the commuter bike rush!

Popsy, thank you so much for the training plan! It looks very do-able and is much more in line with our old one from the Cancer Research 10k site.

Has anyone read Murakami on running? My sister had it and I meant to steal borrow it from her but forgot. I started reading him because of an article (or maybe excerpt) of his in Runners World.

Good luck with the running clubs.

stickylittlefingers · 20/10/2009 13:52

hello - haven't checked in here for a while, but it's always very inspiring (and makes me feel more normal!)

I did the Richmond 10k on Sunday. It was sort of awful and sort of great - awful cos I'd had virtually no sleep the night before courtesy of dd2 (who is fine, just naughty!) but great because it's a beautiful course (if rather horribly hilly at times!) and I did finish it and wasn't last (which I felt was a serious possibility at times!).

Those ultra-people are just incredible, aren't they? One of my friends from college got really into all that. I am totally in awe.

peachsmuggler · 20/10/2009 14:12

JJ - I read the Murakami book. I found it quite inspiring, so yes, beg borrow or steal a copy!

Gosh, it's so cold just now. Went to take the bins out (yes I know, I lead a very glamorous life) last night about 6 and it was freezing! Could not have imagined running in it but am going tonight. Maaking me think I need to get a hat, but not a sweaty one. Any recommendations???

well done sticky. Richmond is lovely eh?

Wallace · 20/10/2009 15:35

peach - try Aldi

I haven't read the Murakami book but have been wanting to but not been able to rememebr what it is called. I was actually going to post on here to ask!

sticky - Well done. As the ultrarunners say "If it doesn't hurt you are not trying hard enough"
