oh know hatwoman. Hope you are feeling better soon

Ihave been wondering about pins and needles recently. Around mile 2, my feet tingle-not full blown pins and needles but certainly tingling. I often wake in the night withit too - but have put it down to the contortions going on with often 2 children in the bed with us. I also (think) I have a condition called fibromyalgia-2 years ago, the doctor said I had this, then I had a huge relapse in jan 08 when I first fell pregnant with ds3 and since then, Ihave been really well. However, thepains have started coming back in the last few weeks.

I was never given a full formal diagnosis as they would not do anything while pregnant and then I have beem symptom free - but think Imay have to go back now

soyabean · 14/10/2009 21:55

Hi everyone just popping by to say hi and read some posts - you are doing some amazing distances and times... I ran 5k after work today and have decided that although I feel knackered at the end of a day in school, actually I run better than when I go out first thing at the weekend. Maybe I am less stiff? Anyway felt vituous. Can't stop, but will pop back soon

Hogiabach · 14/10/2009 22:12

Having completed my first ever half marathon on Sunday - I have barely been able to go up and down the stairs in the last 3 days, I have therefore decided that I will never run a full marathon. I'm thinking of sticking to trail running as I think it might be gentler on my poor legs! I think I'll try and go for a 5k on Saturday.

hatwoman · 14/10/2009 23:40

hogiabach about 3 years ago I did a 16-mile race (my 3rd ever race - the others were both 8) I came home and said to dh "I am never ever going to run that distance again."

but it happens...you get stronger...your stamina builds up...you want a new challenge...never say never!

soyabean · 15/10/2009 12:20

I am in awe of those of you who do 10 miles or more. I have done 10k and can now run 5k easily without feeling tired but 10 miles! wow! hard to even find the time to do uit let alone the willpower!

popsycal · 15/10/2009 16:45

I have some very nice aldi winter running tights and a long sleeved compression top

I amnotwell. Fibromyalgia flare up but been to docs as I never got a referral when it was first suggested as I was pregnant with ds3. Doc wants to do more bloods on MOnday to rule everything out again before referring me toa rheumatologist and starting treatment. Wouldl love to run but think it would be silly when I feel I have been hit by a bus. Stayed off worktoday and am going to stay off tomorrow and hopefully rest to catch this flare up before it gets any worse

Wallace · 15/10/2009 18:07

oh dear pops

hiya soya bean

hogia - I think I felt like that after my first half marathon. In fact I'll prob feel bad after next sunday if I push it.

pops - thanks to you I also have winter trousers, compression top and long sleeve top (couldn't decide which so I bought both ) and earband thing and gloves.

It was a lovely atmoshere in our Aldi just after 9 this morning - everyone a runner and all of us chatting about what to buy

MoshiMoshi · 15/10/2009 21:49

popsy - sorry to hear about your fibromyalgia. Keep us posted with how you are.

twink - continuing with the best wishes across the air waves. Keep on running!

To everyone else, sounds like it the running is going well and you are all gearing up for winter training. What I want to know is how do you all get your running in? Do you get up at 5am before the rest of the family to fit in your training and then morph into mummy mode when you get back in the door? Or do you do it when your other half is back from work and step out into the night for your daily run? Or, if you are like me, do you run everywhere you possibly can (injuries allowing) pushing what children you have with you in the buggy with the promise of a fun new park at the end of the run?

I ask because I am wondering whether to try and push for some running outside of my usual routine which is done around the rest of the family. I am convinced that buggy running is not good for developing my core strength which is much needed after DC4 and which I think could aggravate the tendonitis (I am convinced core strength is the answer to nearly everything!) Also, if I run alone from time to time I could include some proper interval training instead of attempting and failing miserably to do with with a buggy.

Feedback much appreciated so I can plan my strategy! Happy running all!

MoshiMoshi · 15/10/2009 21:52

Apologies for typoos. Have only just got PC back after months of having to do this on the iPhone while everything was in storage for renovations. And so my typing seem s to have gone a biut funnny .

Hogiabach · 15/10/2009 21:54

Oh Pops that doesn't sound nice, I do hope you're feeling better very soon :-)

Hogiabach · 15/10/2009 21:56

I'm feeling ready for my next run yay

hatwoman · 15/10/2009 23:02

oh popsy - sorry to hear you're not well. I hope the doctors can find you some answers and give you good advice/treatment etc. perhaps if you're not feeling up to running (sounds sensible) a short walk and, at least, some fresh air will help you keep your spirits up? hope you're feeling better soon.

Themasterandmargaritas · 16/10/2009 06:38

Oh Popsy, I am sorry to hear you are under the weather. It's not surprising really with dh's redundancy looming also. Does he have any plans? I agree with hattie, if you are not up to running then a walk or two may help. You may find a short run is enough to lift your spirits and ease the aching, if only temporarily. You are doing so well with your times and you are always so positive.

Hattie, how are you feeling?

Moshi, I run when the dc are at school/preschool or at the weekend am when dh is there. Of course I am in the enviable position of having help here so in theory I can run whenever I like.

Thanks Twink for your lovely encouragement. Wallace are you doing a half next Sunday too?

I managed 10k yesterday but it was tough for some reason, week before AF perhaps? The rains have started so it was super humid. It is half term this coming week and we are going to the beach (in the rain!!) and it will be difficult to run in 30 degrees and 98% humidity, so I will do one last run tomorrow before next Sunday. So how far do you think I should go? 11 miles? Or is it too far?

Wallace · 16/10/2009 06:50

I'm doing my Half this Sunday. I would do a wee bit less than 11 miles unlesss you feel you need to get more miles in.

I find I'm sluggish befoe AF too. But very of beach even in the rain. Your rain is slightly different to our rain

I like to treat myself to some new music for my ipod for every major event I do. Any suggestions? Something not too slow, or too fast.

JJ · 16/10/2009 11:18

I've been lurking - am doing a 10k this Sunday and hope to do a half marathon in March. Feel slightly guilty because I'm posting to ask a question: I've just donated blood without thinking about it - I'll be ok to do the 10k on Sunday, won't I? I've been training for it and don't plan to do it anything close to fast or even anything close to not-slow.

Wallace, I've been listening to Owl City. It's uber-sweet pop but silly and clever.

Hope everyone who is feeling under the weather gets better soon.

Themasterandmargaritas · 16/10/2009 14:46

Thanks Wallace, depending on the weather I think I might go for 11 miles with an option to cut it short if I become mud-logged.

Good luck to you on Sunday. Where is it? As for music, I find when Black Eyed Peas come on, it always perks me up a little.

Welcome JJ, good luck on Sunday, I'm not sure about the blood donating business, someone else is likely to know.

i am quite of you all buying new winter clothes. So I splashed out on 2 pairs of new black running socks, black because they get utterly trashed here with our red soil. I am ridiculously excited about trying them out tomorrow. That's quite sad isn't it?

Wallace · 16/10/2009 15:47

master - stop it with your red soil. i still have books I had as a kid that are stained orange

JJ - good luck! I think Twink donated blood not long before she did a marathon. There are guidlines I think, but don't know what they are I will look for Owl City - I'm up for anything

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 16/10/2009 16:05

JJ - drink plenty between now and then and you should be OK. And hello.

Sorry to hear you're not well popsy.

Wallace · 16/10/2009 16:24

I certainly have, saggar! Just presumed you were running so much you had no time to post... How are you?

Wheelybug · 16/10/2009 17:04

Sorry to hear you're not well Popsy.

I've made my 2 sessions in the gym this week and run 5K at both - today I upped my speed a bit so started to feel a bit better that I'm actually getting somewhere.

As for finding time to run - when I was running before I went when dd1 was at pre-school. Now I have dd2 I have 2 sessions in the gym creche for her a week and then I get out at least once at the weekends. I dont' think I'll get v. far with this so for the time being am aiming to get to 10K 3 times a week (although currently aiming for 5K 3 times a week !)

Jealous of the Aldi running gear splurges - We seem to be an Aldi free area(well there is one 6.5 miles away so in London would probably take me an hour to get to). Will keep fingers crossed Lidl do the same at some point.

Good luck to those doing runs this weekend !

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 16/10/2009 17:11

I am running Wallace - although it's quantity (short dashes) rather than distance at the moment. We lost dh's dad to cancer just last week, my middle son has gone off to uni and things are all a bit stressy. The running is keeping me sane(ish) though. Tis lovely at this time of year too .

Good luck on Sunday.

I missed the boat at Aldi this time. If you're not on the doorstep at 9 you may as well forget it.

Wallace · 16/10/2009 20:07

Sorry to hear that, saggar. Running is like meditation I think.

Next time I will take orders for Aldi stuff. Ours is a good half an hour away but nothing like trying to get through London.

popsycal · 16/10/2009 20:17

mine is a 3 minuite walk away - happy to take ordwers next time

peachsmuggler · 16/10/2009 20:57

Moshi - I run once at the weekend in the morning and twice during the week at 6 as soon as DP comes home from work. I bolt out the door!

Supposed to be doing 9 miles tomorrow but Dp has come home with beer and wine

Aw saggar, that's rotten. Running will help you I'm sure.

Poor popsy, hand in there love.

Wallace - I cannot recommend Madonna and Justin Timberlake - 4 minutes highly enough as a great running track!
