What cracking efforts!

Wallace that just shows how much your training & determination is paying off!

Badgermonkey, that's a really respectable time, but as a first effort it's scary - you'll be getting age-group prizes soon, well done!

Master, you'll be fine for your half, it's only a quick trip around the block more than you've done today - seriously, think of one of your short routes and visualise running it towards the end of the race when you get tired as you know you can run it easily, without knee pain! Great to hear it didn't hurt though.

Idris, under is under! You're a sub-10 min miler

Had a rest day today as had sore throat/ear combo plus miniT was at a sleepover so didn't want to set my alarm to go out with the group. Had a pretty good fitness week though, tough gym session Mon, speed intervals Tues, hilly 7.5m Wed, steady 3m Thur, spinning & climbing Fri, outdoor climbing Sat...

Hogiabach · 11/10/2009 21:10

Twink, thanks for pointing me to this thread, it's fantastic . I can see I'm gonna be hooked...

I had been dreading completing my first ever half marathon, I tend to do 10k a couple of times a week as I don't have time to fit anymore due to work, not having anyone to look after 2 DS's blah, blah so didn't feel I was training enough -
I know feel very pleased having completed in under 2 hours! I can't wait to go out again

Keep on running ladies

Hogiabach · 11/10/2009 21:13

oops now not know

sfxmum · 11/10/2009 21:22

Hi master. Yes I did it. A really lovely varied route. But I was struggling at the end and kept having to walk. under Took me just under 2 hrs . But I'll get there

badgermonkey · 11/10/2009 22:08

Well done Orm and Hogiabach! Not sure I'm up for a half just yet.

Did a bit of geekery on the results spreadsheet for the race and worked out I was in the top 12% of all women and the top 10% of women in my age group (17-35)!

popsycal · 12/10/2009 10:27

oh i love a bit of geekery

popsycal · 12/10/2009 10:37

geekery complete - i was in the top 26% of women in the gnr

popsycal · 12/10/2009 10:42

ooh and top 23% for my GN 10k

i fear i amaddicted

hatwoman · 12/10/2009 10:54

blimey you lot can you stop all this geekery? ok I know I may be partly responsible having spoken about such things earlier but you're all getting such good results....you're making me feel like a right plodder.

Wheelybug · 12/10/2009 11:39

Blimey ! Not sure I'm worthy of this thread. Long distances and fast times.

I am with the disheartened crowd - getting back to running after a break is quite frustrating I'm finding as I can't run either as fast or as far as I could. BUt did do 5K in gym the other day and 4.2 outside last night. A mere walk in the park for most of you guys but I guess its a start. I think I'm going to concentrate on getting to running 5K regularly and up my time at that before increasing distance.

IdrisTheDragon · 12/10/2009 11:55

Wheelybug I do neither long nor fast . The furthest I have ever gone is 5 miles. And 5k is definitely not a walk in the park.

But I enjoy it and am getting fitter so I am happy

Wheelybug · 12/10/2009 12:06

Thanks Idris .

Hogiabach · 12/10/2009 12:59

Wheelybug - I'm actually in quiet a lot of discomfort Today now that the adrenaline has all dumped! I'm struggling to just get up and down the stairs and I doubt I'll be able to go for a run this week, so well done you taking it steady and building it up.

In my opinion anyone who puts on their running shoes and steps outsdie is worthy .

Keep on running ladies.

herjazz · 12/10/2009 13:48

Was it the edf one in brum you did Hogiabach?

I feel like the tin man off wizard of oz. Veeeery sore and creaky. Struggling to walk. Did the half marathon yesterday in 2hr 4o mins - basically jogged slower than you can imagine for 7 miles, walked for 3 then jogged the rest, with a stab at running to the finish line! The last 2 miles were a killer. Oh and I nearly toppled over in a portaloo

I didn't think it was possible to ache and chaffe in places I am

But yay its done. Can see in retrospect that it was quite foolish to do, having only done 3 miles and 6 miles once in last fortnight and a few sessions at the gym as training. I guess the weekly 7 miles I used to do years ago pre kids doesn't really count does it?

popsycal · 12/10/2009 14:20

i have been so frustrated at not getting out for runs withthese dark nights that i just thought sod it, stuck ds3 inthe buggy and went off on a 5k loopon a flat tarmac path. slightly over 30 mins. really want a posh running buggy now but with dh being made redundant in a few weeks and me working opart time, that is never going tohappen

peachsmuggler · 12/10/2009 14:55

popsy what a shame, but just watch your back running with the buggy.

badger am gobsmacked at your 10k time, that is awesome. Well done.

Have just signed up to do another 6 week running course as need to someone to kick me up the ar*e in terms of speed and fitness. It starts week after next and am going to do some intervals and hills in the meantime so I am not at the club when everyone else is skill and I am at the back

fishie · 12/10/2009 15:53

i am laughing at everyone in yoru running club being skill peachsmuggler.

orm well done. that is dead far - i tried to go a bit longer on saturday and failed miserably. i did manage 35k over three days though so am quite happy with that. today is rest day and i'd quite like another run, but no time.

Wallace · 12/10/2009 16:43

well done half marathoners

popsycal - if only you lived closer you could have my buggy It is a 3 wheel baby jogger It is about 10 years old but in working order (apart from the brakes which I'm sure could be fixed)

morethanyoubargainfor · 12/10/2009 18:10

hello everyone,

Well done orm, great distance.

Equally well done to the half marathoners.

Here goes my attempt at trying to keep up with you lot!,

just been out for first time in exactly 2 weeks, felt like i was flying for about the first mile or so then i hit a wall(not literally!) and had to walk for a few paces, but then after a long chat with self got back into flying again .

I now have a running partner though, it felt much better running with him apart from his was just a trot as he is my new lurcher! It felt really good running with my dog, he really enjoyed himself but wasn't even out of breath when we finished, BAstard dog! i am now coughing like i smoke 100 cigarettes a day! Maybe i'm still not 100%.

Anyway i amm glad i am back in the saddle so to speak .

popsycal · 12/10/2009 20:00

you see thisi.ebay.co.uk/EXPEDITION-Baby-Jogger-Buggy-Pram-Pushchair-3-wheeler-G_W0QQitemZ200386434943QQc mdZViewItemQQptZUKBabyBabyTravelPushchairsGL?hash=item2ea7f6577f&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14 his is a bargain - but it is really bulky and heaveir than ds3 himself!!!

liath · 12/10/2009 20:30

Well done everyone.

I am itching to go running again btu I really ought to wait for my physio appointment shouldn't I?

hatwoman · 13/10/2009 09:47

Hi everyone,

I too was feeling down for the last week or so. Bizarrely enough, having had no ms symptoms for a good 3 years or so (apart from my permanently fuzzy-feeling feet that don't bother me at all) just a few days after mentioning it on here I started getting really heavy legs - especially in the mornings and at night. having heavy achey legs isn't that big a deal, but with ms, as I'm sure Girls knows, you just find yourself worrying that worse is in store. So I was just thinking that my luck had run out and I was going to be laid low with some nasty relapse. but am pleased to report that it seems to be easing off - I think it was triggered by 3 late nights and I'm starting to feel back to normal again. I still dragged myself out for a couple of runs - but kept them quite short. I really want to feel up to something longer at the weekend. If I'm going to do this mini mountain marathon thing I need to be up to 18 miles or so ny the end of the month .

hope everyone else is ok - popsy - really sorry to hear about your dh. I hope something turns up ok
