Ooh thank you about Aldi popsy. Will find where the nearest one is

sfxmum · 08/10/2009 20:34

Orm do you think the anti D's provided a 'cushion' and now you have to push through sort of on your own?
don't give up I don't really think loss of fitness is a reason to stop, quite the contrary, maybe re assessing goals and see what will see you through until you feel better?

regarding depression I think I have lived for so long with it, and am convinced and have accepted it will be here for the rest of my life

however one of the things that sometimes gets to me is that this is part of who I am and occasionally I panic trying to decipher what is normal sadness, what is normal low feeling and what is depression pushing in
I don't really know how other people feel and what 'normal' is iyswim
and so far one thing that keeps me even and offers me some relief is running, no matter how slowly no matter how unfit

am rambling now sorry

and btw am quite a cheerful outgoing person

Thanks all.

I will persist but it feels so pointless. Much easier to sit and do nowt of an evening.

I will get there.

popsycal · 08/10/2009 20:56

oh guys - we ALL belong here (actually this thread is theonly place I feellikeI do belongon MN these days - but thats another story)

oooo keyboard stillknacked

Wallace - I am seriously up for marathon relay. we need a couple of other victims runners then we are set....

how will we know who the other runners are though to pass onto? hahaha. I know there is no baton but am imagining a fruit shoot to be passed between MNer
and maybe a greggs sausgae roll

hatwoman · 08/10/2009 21:17

popsycal - this thread is what keeps me here. hate to sound like a grumpy old woman but mn doesn't quite do what it used to do for me. but it does do this. really well. as I said below I love the way this thread works - people dipping in and out, talking about their running, with other bits and pieces of their lives popping their heads up now and then. I guess it's like a virtual running club - people with a basic thing in common but with other stuff to chat about too. I really do love it

Twink · 08/10/2009 22:38

Oh Orm, I really do feel for you - yes it is really much easier to do nowt but as you know only too well, if you make the move and get out there, it makes the world seem so much better.

I only did my 10k last week because of encouragement here, I used to run marathons, then got injured and had to cut back to almost nothing, then Mr T got his incurable/inoperable diagnosis and it was all too easy to hide from stuff but with the support from here and a few hardcore RL friends I'm back again. 6 weeks ago I felt physically ill trying 4-5 miles, now I'm back to 8 - not as fast as I was but I WILL get back and so will you.

NEVER too old but see if you can get guidance from a physio or podiatrist (pref via recommendation so you have confidence in them)

Set yourself realistic targets based on now not how things were. It'll never be as hard to recover your fitness as it was to gain it in the first place but you must have short term goals which are achievable.

Above all, keep trying and stay here! xx

MoshiMoshi · 09/10/2009 17:29

Hello all. Been getting back into running by running the school run with my littlest two in the buggy and encouraging the older two to scoot. Then taking a scenic route back. Can feel my fitness returning... as well as my ankle tendonitis!

Orm - I am sorry you are so down about things. I know how injuries can really get the better of you. Are you seeing a decent physio about the problem? I know why my persists and am hopeful about getting rid of it completely. In fact it doesn't seem as bad as it was pre-baby, although I am having to be careful with my mileage to ensure this. Frustrating but it is good to focus on little baby steps in getting rid of chronic conditions.

I am totally up for a relay marathon! Especially as finding the time to train for one alone is difficult with all the kids for now. Only thing is, I am down sarf...?

popsycal · 09/10/2009 18:03

ooooh
so we have

morethanyoubargainfor · 09/10/2009 18:19

hi everyone, i haven't managed to get out since my last hideous attempt at a run about 2 weeks ago, . I am still flirting with the idea of being ill and constantly feel like i am surviving on 70% energy.

I hope to get back to it next week.

Orm sorry you are having a rouggh time at the moment, in my early(or earlier) days you were oneof the people who nspired me. ( we even had our leg in plaster at the same time last year!)

peachsmuggler · 09/10/2009 21:12

Hey Orm don't be disheartened. It must be so dissapointing after your achievements before but am sure with time you'll get back there. Come on here and have a moan and we'll try to give you the encouragement you need.

Wallace - I've got a shock absorber and it wasn't cheap but is fantastic. They do B cups!

Right. Am doing 8 miles tomorrow, so this must be my last beer....

Wallace · 10/10/2009 07:20

morethanyoubargainedfor - I hve certainly had spells like that. Hope you feel better soon

peach - that is good to hear because I went to TK Maxx yesterday and bought a shock absorber for £6.99! Had to get black unfortunately so I will have to buy another running top...

morethanyoubargainfor · 10/10/2009 08:17

shock asorbers are great, i have one but i am at your £6.99 wallace, mine was around £30, but it can hold my GG cups in place it is worth every penny!

peachsmuggler · 10/10/2009 09:28

£6.99!!!! wow. They are the bomb!

herjazz · 10/10/2009 09:46

hello ladies - can I pop in?

I'm doing the edf brum half marathon tomorrow. Am woefully ill prepared for it. I know I can run 6 miles v slow and am reckoning on walking for bits of it. Am I best to switch to walking when running gets too hard or do run/walk/run thing?

I also need to buy some proper clothes today for it. I want some legging type things that won't be too sweaty. Dh got me some baggy short type things yesterday from tkmaxx but they're going back

Anyone else doing this run?

sfxmum · 10/10/2009 13:32

herjazz good luck for half

morethan - did you see the doctor for the blue episode? maybe a slow jog/walk will get you back into it

I use shock absorber too for my F cup heard of others which are more akin to armour which I would like to try but can't find in shops just online

need winter leggings I think been loving my capris and maybe a new jacket

not running today slept till late instead then DH went to work tomorrow it is then hopefully this week will be better was far too busy with deadlines last week but am is dire need of run

happy running all

OP posts:
morethanyoubargainfor · 10/10/2009 14:54

hi SFX, i still go walking everyday for atleast1.5 hours, and i also still cycle.

I will try to run tommorrow.

never went to doc about blue episode, it hasn't happened since but my hands still haven't warmed up much!

NewPenName · 10/10/2009 15:11

can i join in again? (i always read but rarely post!). Just to say that you're all really encouraging, as ever.

have suffered too with depression and running also a great "fix" for me (well, the best there is anyway). Been getting exasperated tho as my fitness plummeted having got up to running about 25-30 miles a week comfortably, I'm now back to about 12 and struggle to run 3 or 4 miles withouht walking v . However today did 4.5 miles non-stop so hoping it's coming back. I really know how you feel orm (and it's bad enough w/o the medication/injuries you've had).

I guess with running it's a matter of keeping on plugging at it so that it's always a habit (however short or infrequent the runs)

Good luck to those racing/walking whatever tomorrow.

OrmIrian · 10/10/2009 16:48

Hello.

Thanks for your kind words in a very dark moment. Am very up and down these days.

Did 6 miles last night - feet OK but I was still having to stop everynow and again in the first few miles - by ile 3 or 4 I was running steadily.

Planning 9.5 tomorrow. New route that I discovered my chance recently. It may be too much but I can't wait.

BTW I know I am a fool for pushing it but I don't know any other way to run

Wallace · 11/10/2009 07:46

Good luck Orm. A new route will be just the thing - it is always nice to be somewhere different. I find it adds some interest to a run

Welcome NewPenname, glad you are getting it back

Hi herjazz - good luck! I don't know whether it would be better to plan run/walk intervals or keep running then walk when it gets hard. My first thought was run/walk plan, but then what if you are in a good rythm (I used to be able to spell ) and feel like carrying on running! Sorry I can't be of more help. Did you get your clothing issues sorted?

I am doing out village's 5k race today. I feel a bit under pressure because eveyone knows I run a lot and therefore expects me to be fast

IdrisTheDragon · 11/10/2009 10:53

Am going to go and run 5 miles. This will be the furthest I have run ever . Sun has come out which is good (not keen on wet running).

Themasterandmargaritas · 11/10/2009 18:09

Well done Idris. You could add on an extra mile a week now.

How did you get on Wallace and herjazz?

Orm did you manage your 9 miler? Did it make you feel better?

I managed 16.5km with no knee ache but it was bloody hot and humid. I've got two weeks til the half, I wonder if I will be able to make it?

IdrisTheDragon · 11/10/2009 19:04

I did my 5 mile run in under 50 minutes . Just

badgermonkey · 11/10/2009 19:19

Back from Scarborough - ran the Yorkshire Coast 10k this morning, my first real race (after Race for Life). I wanted to do it in under 50 minutes; I crossed the line at 49.44 but it took me 40 seconds to cross the start line so hopefully my official time (we had microchips for timing) will be more like 49.04 or thereabouts. Pretty good for a first proper race! Can't wait for the results to come out to scrutinise and work out how well I did - or otherwise

Wallace · 11/10/2009 19:33

that is fast, badgermonkeY!

Well done Idris - Very good!

master - you'll make it!

My 5k was great. time was 25.05 which is only 8 secs off my PB which was set on flat city roads - this was on slippery norrow twisty woodland paths

My 8 year old dd did the 3k in 19.39

girlsyearapart · 11/10/2009 19:44

Laughing at being called inspirational!
Ha feel anything but and am finding you lot the inspiration.

Am extremely awestruck by some of the times on here too. Don't think I'll ever manage to go that fast.

Last week went on treadmill twice and did circuit training but don't think I've been out road running since last Sunday.

Must try harder this week.

I blame the dog he won't go out in the rain!
