just to house the runners

fartlek? i know i've boldly come onto the runners' thread rather than the eejit couch potato one, but i fear you are out-stripping me with your lingo.

i'm still working up to the 5k thing so i'm supposed to time it, i think... and i'm an asshole who doesn't really 'get' music so lol what i dream of is downloading radio 4 programmes and using a mapped run in the future.

am watching that iplayer thing, gosh this girl is a wee belter, isn't she? impressive.

AitchTwoOh · 08/05/2009 22:59

aw and now i am blubbing cos her mum was there at the finish.

mwff · 08/05/2009 23:02

i love how she runs like a girl with the flappy hands and all and still she's harder than all of us put together

btw tis mileniwm i'm rather taken with my abbreviation (lol, just realised i could be milff too )

AitchTwoOh · 08/05/2009 23:07

lol yes when she set off she was all 'ooooooh' and flapping, i noticed that too. and then it turns out she's mentally NAILS. unlike me. i cannot believe she ran through those blisters.

Wallace · 09/05/2009 08:48

You're welcome Aitch

I have been neglecting this thread

I'm running Dunfermline Half tomorrow and more than a little bit nervous!

Good luck to MrsWednesday who is running Leeds!

kittywise · 09/05/2009 08:58

hello everyone, found this thread again!!!!
I managed 7.75 miles yesterday,I forgot to notice what the time was though .It's the furthest I've run so far

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 09/05/2009 09:33

Thanks for that link miff. I'd seen her on the London Marathon when they'd shown a little clip of it. She's just fab isn't she? looks all meek and mild but must have real guts.

Wallace & MrsW - good luck, enjoy!

Aitch - fartlek is a bit like intervals but less structured. I don't mind fartlek so much but intervals generally make me vom so I don't do 'em

mwff · 09/05/2009 09:47

when i say fartlek i just mean i run bit faster for a bit then slow down again then do another fast bit when i'm feeling up to it.

can anyone teach me how to sweat? cos it's beginning to get me down that i don't (well, not enough) and as a consequence i overheat. which would explain why i like running in the rain, and the wind, and at 7 in the morning, and in the snow i seriously couldn't even contemplate a race cos they don't finish before 9am by when it's already too warm for me

i'm going to experiment with drinking a lot more for the next week, see if it helps at all, but any other suggestions very welcome.

Wallace · 09/05/2009 10:16

Just watched the Blue peter thing.

how she is so delighted when she "only" has a Half marathon to go. I will think of that tomorrow!

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 09/05/2009 10:40

I have the opposite problem miff. [drowning in it]

MrsWednesday · 09/05/2009 14:52

Ah that link made me sob, very inspiring.

Wallace, thanks for remembering! All the very best of luck to you too. Have you done much running this week? I did a rubbish 6 miles last Sunday and that's been it.

I am also very nervous. I think seeing all the 'sports event/road closed' signs up around the city has freaked me out, I'm not usually this bad. I shall just remind myself that I'm not running 78 miles non-stop through a desert, and her 'only a half marathon to go' comment tommorrow when I'm struggling at 8 miles

fishie · 09/05/2009 18:59

wow she has some serious determination.

good luck mrsw and wallace.

Wallace · 09/05/2009 20:09

MrsWednesday - I haven't run very much since 11 miles 2 weeks ago. I am calling it tapering!

What time does yours start? Mine is at 11. I can imagine us both at the start lines muttering to ourselves "only a half marathon to go"

badgermonkey · 09/05/2009 20:52

Good luck you half-marathoners! I'm really impressed - can't even think of doing 13 miles right now.

I did sign up for Race for Life though. It's on July 12 and I run 5k pretty regularly now so I know I can do it. I do want to aim for a decent time though, just for personal pride. I've done it in 27 mins before - anyone got any idea what would be a good, realistic time to aim for over the next couple of months? I run 4/5 times a week, mostly 2/3 miles on weekdays and slightly longer at weekends and can do a 9-min mile fairly consistently now.

MrsWednesday · 09/05/2009 21:47

Mine's an early start - 9.30. Eeek. Better go to bed.

Good luck! Hope it's not too windy, and that you enjoy it. I shall be muttering at the start, most definitely

sfxmum · 09/05/2009 22:09

hello everyone just checking in to keep on my active convos and wish good luck for those racing tomorrow

OP posts:
maygirl · 10/05/2009 00:18

Good luck to those racing this weekend! I've done hardly any running since Reading half in March, decided to enter a 10k to kick start motivation, .... its next weekend, ahhh
Hope to re-join this thread with renewed motivation!

Themasterandmargaritas · 10/05/2009 05:56

Good luck MrsW and Wallace! Enjoy.

Wallace · 10/05/2009 06:56

Thanks everyone. Sitting here eating my porridge.

I should really wake the kids up soon because we have a 2 hour journey! Why do they always sleep later when I need them up early...

liath · 10/05/2009 08:01

Good luck to the half marathoners today, hope you have a good run.

I am really impressed by that Blue Peter lass, what guts she had!

Hopefully I should be able to get out for a decent run with my sister today as my mum has volunteered to watch all the kids, bless her!

Has anyone done the Edinburgh seven hills race?

AitchTwoOh · 10/05/2009 12:44

good luck all! brilliant day for it, nice and cold. (or it is up here).

MrsWednesday · 10/05/2009 14:51

Perfect running weather here too, dull and cool with occasional drizzle. Managed to get round in 1 hour 47. That Blue Peter video was great motivation when I was struggling at the end! Also my DH and 2 DSs kept popping up along the route, as well as my sister and some friends, which was brilliant.

It was my first race wearing my running club vest, and I was amazed at how much support I got from the club itself too, cheering me on and handing out drinks etc.

I am so completely worn out now though, everything hurts, even my neck! Am now lying down on the settee and don't intend to move much unless it's to eat!

Wallace, hope everything went well today and that you sailed round effortlessly

AitchTwoOh · 10/05/2009 14:53
MrsWednesday · 10/05/2009 15:11

Never again.

Actually that's a lie

Themasterandmargaritas · 10/05/2009 16:45
