I WILL NOT nesh out again like I did last time.

DP has even bought me an iPod Shuffle to run with so that I don't have to lug my big iPod around (oh the inconvenience).

this is what I'm talking about and here's the podcasts I run to.

I'm not starting today though, got about 3 hours sleep last night.

Wow, I always come back to this thread and am amazed at how much running has been done since my last run.

That was W3R2, annoyingly felt harder (and I think I got less far) than W3R1. What's all that about? Also my headphones are at death's door, only giving sound when I hold the stem at theght angle, so the music is all on-and-off, although it's rubbish music anyway so I'm only waiting for Rawbert to give me instructions (and he dosn't mention any Quorn in W3!). I think I need to get some new ones.

I think I'lll just go lalalala at the fact that some of you are thinking of doing 8k and 10k runs. I'm impressed of course, and it's good to know that it can be done, but in all honestly I'm not sure I'm doing even 1k at a time yet so 10k sounds like a marathon!

DrTrillianAstra · 08/03/2009 12:04

PS Happy Birthday for yesterday!

mileniwmffalcon · 08/03/2009 13:28

trillian i have these headphones and they're pretty good - certainly better than standard ipod headphones. they block some noise, so you don't have to have it so loud, and they stay put well. plus they're black, always a bonus.

the most i'm running at a stretch is half a mile, so not broken the km barrier yet, although maybe i will next run

DrTrillianAstra · 08/03/2009 13:37

Thanks, that's actually what I have but I think I've knackered them by winding them round my ipod and carrying them about in my handbag! Great minds obviously think alike

On my last W3 run I think I'm going to try to remember precisely where I start and end my 3min runs so I can see how far I'm going.

mileniwmffalcon · 08/03/2009 13:53

i find it really helpful. not just cos you can work out your pace but it's also good to know how far e.g. 5mins takes you for planning routes (i have a few roads to cross and don't want to be waiting at the lights in a running section).

btw map my run in case anyone didn't know.

DrTrillianAstra · 08/03/2009 14:15

I would use Gmaps pedometer, which is pretty similar, it uses Google Maps (as the name implies). I was thinking that once I'm onto week4 I would need to extend my route a bit to accommodate the extra running.

Oh God, just looked at week4, think I might fall over and die. Maybe I should just do some small loops very near my house so I can crawl home!

BrownSuga · 08/03/2009 14:34

Awesome map thingies thanks! I've tracked my route for Week 6 and it's 4.3km, including the 2x5min walks at start and end. I'm on my way!

And thanks also for the 8k/10k podcasts mileni, hopefully i'll be able to use these come summer.

SparklyPrincess · 08/03/2009 17:49

Hi everyone - can I join in?

I did the couch to 5k last year and finished it ... then got a bit slack so am trying to work up to 5k again! I'm really bad at going in the evening so at the moment I'm running twice a week pushing my nearly 2 year old in her buggy and attempting to go one more evening. I started a couple of weeks back on week 5 and I'm due to do Week 6 run 2 tomorrow. Not looking forward to the 25 minuter that comes after that as it's SO HARD with the buggy!

Hoping to get up to 10k by the end of the summer so I can do one of the cancer research Run10k races.

Good luck everyone!

DrTrillianAstra · 08/03/2009 17:53

Welcome SparklyPrincess, it sounds like you're further along than a lot of us already!

(disclaimer, we didn't all start in January )

Pennies · 08/03/2009 18:41

Happy Birthday for yesterday Giddy!

Love that Gmaps Pedometer. I'm somewhat obsessed by distance at the moment and had a disappointing time today when the latest application that I'd bought on my iphone, which I thought would be a good pedometer registered that I'd merely taken 93 steps, traveled 0.17km and burned 7.3 calories in the whole 25mins that my W7R1 was today!

I enjoyed the run today, but mainly because of the weather. Rawbert's mix is not my favourite and I miss the interruptions of earlier weeks that say how far you've gone. And there's no Quorn.

kittywise · 08/03/2009 18:58

I use this one, I find it more user friendly than the others

kittywise · 08/03/2009 18:59

It's logged you in to my page any way go to the route planner

SparklyPrincess · 08/03/2009 22:56

waves Thanks Trillian ...

You'll all overtake me in a couple of weeks!

And can I just say to those of you that are saying you're doing sloth-like 10 min miles ... that is NOT slow! That's great going! I personally have never managed 3 miles in less than 35 mins and I don't feel too bad about that!

mileniwmffalcon · 09/03/2009 09:00

with the gmaps one and the green one is there a way of calculating a walking pace - i couldn't see anything to do with pace on the gmaps one at all and the green one appears to only have one option for walking, no speeds. sorry to sound so anal but i buy extra calories with exercise and the faster i walk the more i earn, so an extra half a mile an hour makes all the difference!

hello sparkly running with a pushchair must be like swimming in pyjamas - bet it feels great when you get a chance to go out on your own!

how are our other pushchair people getting on? are you still with us?

yay me i managed w5r2 today: 2x 8mins. was harder than r1 but still manageable. there's no way i can go much longer at that pace though, i really need to rein it in to a proper shuffle for r3.

actually, i have a plan for r3. i'm going to make my own playlist so when if i have to stop i'll be able to work out how far i got (no watch/clock on ipod). it should also give me an idea of how far i've gone/got left. plus decent music of course

DrTrillianAstra · 09/03/2009 10:48

DP uses minutes per mile to calculate his runs (they are actual runs, rather than the shuffles that I go out for). It also has a miles per hour calculator if you prefer.

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 09/03/2009 11:24

Morning all,

I have just about recovered from W4r1, there is a huge jump isn't there between 90secs/3minute runs and 3min/5min runs! Looking forward to todays run tho as I have bought my running gear into work and THERE ARE NO HILLS HERE!

GK - Hope you had a good birthday with lots of spoiling.

madwelshwomen - glad you are starting to enjoy it, makes a big difference and you are more likely to keep going!

sparkly - wow I can barely drag around my lazy butt nevermind push a pushchair at the same time!

mileniwmffalcon - good luck for r3.

Thanks for all the tracking sites, will be useful at the moment I just keep track of my whole distance rather than how far I went when I was running. I usually do between 3.5km and 4km each run.

SparklyPrincess · 09/03/2009 12:46

Did (well, more or less) W6R2 today ... I seemed to be running into the wind for the WHOLE loop - is there a wind god that hates me? Anyway, my buggy seemed to turn into a giant sail pushing me backward so I'm amazed that I was making any forward progress at all.

I think I'm going to do this week's run 1 or 2 again on Wednesday leave the 25 mins til Friday evening when I can leave dd2 with dh!

Libras - yep, there's some big jumps along the way ... but doesn't it feel good when you've done them?!

MF - good luck with R3! It's a bit scary, isn't it? Don't think of it as going from 8 to 20 though - you're just taking out the recovery walk. Some really good advice I read on the runners world forum is that if you start getting the urge to walk, slow down to a slower run, you'll recover a bit and can then pick the pace back up. I got stuck in a bit of a rut where I couldn't get past 20 mins without walking and that really helped me.

Yep, running with the buggy is really hard, but I know that I won't go in the evening, at least til I get back into it and start enjoying it ... ! I'm not going to be able to go during the day after the end of this term so it's a short term thing.

Madwelshwoman · 09/03/2009 16:15

Welcome SparklyPrincess I'm impressed, running with a buggy! I can just about carry myself!

Anyway, quick question. Have been enable to go out today as dd quite ill so off school and I'm off to work in a bit. I plan to go for a run tomorrow morning but in order to keep my 'schedule' as it were I'd like to run Wednesday as well so that I can fit my usual 3 in this week rather than just 2 (I can only run Mon, Wed and Sat).

Is it wise to run on consecutive days? (I know I'm only beginning week 3). I would just hate to disrupt my routine but don't want to overdo it by not having a rest day

keepingitRia · 09/03/2009 21:32

after my long absence I am really chuffed to be able to post that I have done the whole of W1R1[gron]

as you can tell I feel like it's a massive achievement. I did it outside too and only passed about 10 cars and 6 people! The wheezing might have had them worried

sorry I haven't had chance to catch up on all the progress, hope it's going well for everyone

fakeblondie · 10/03/2009 10:09

Hi again,
well i finished wk 1 r 6 last night and really enjoyed it !
Was very worried as i have a bit of exercise induced asthma / overactive thyroid issue and so took a good bit of my inhaler before and after the run and wasnt as wheezy as i was last time . The cold air doesnt help.
Anyhow never thought i`d say it but we actually enjoyed it.
Downloading w2 and will do this for 2 weeks also starting tomorrow.
Well done to us all x

fakeblondie · 10/03/2009 10:09

BTW what is differrent in week 2 ? x

SparklyPrincess · 10/03/2009 14:57

Fakeblondie - the schedule comes from the coolrunnings website originally, so you can see the whole thing there :
www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml.

mileniwmffalcon · 10/03/2009 14:57

yay blondie iirc it's 90 seconds running rather than 60.

mileniwmffalcon · 10/03/2009 14:57

lol @ xposts

mileniwmffalcon · 10/03/2009 15:02

oh and yay ria, glad you're still with us. i find having to report back really keeps me on the straight and narrow - so now you've started we're not letting you stop!
