I can't find the old one in Health, and we deserve to be in brand new shiny Sport and exercise anyway

How much was the sports bra, if you don't mind me asking? I need a new one but was a bit at the prices of the ones I saw in the shop yesterday.

My DH and his family clubbed together to buy me a Garmin for my birthday in August and I love it! He got it from Amazon in the end, like this one. I'm not using it to its full potential yet (haven't worked out half the gadgets!) and I do feel a bit of a wally standing in the back garden with my arms up in the air trying to get satellite positioning, but it definitely gives me targets to work towards. No heart monitor on this one though.

I sometimes go running at night once the kids are in bed and just stick to fairly busy roads in built-up areas with good pavements.

Thanks hatwoman. Hmmm, so it's achievable in 16 weeks is it? 4 times a week is v impressive!

MrsWednesday · 10/11/2008 21:26

oops, meant to say, great news on the lack of nosebleed, you must be very pleased and relieved.

hatwoman · 10/11/2008 21:57

oo blimey - garmin nowhere near as expensive as i remembered...did I dream the 200 plus figure? or have they come down? or was that for one that makes you a cup of tea and runs the bath for you when you get back...

at £100 I might be in with a chance for Christmas. if I'm very good.

hatwoman · 10/11/2008 21:59

maybe I'll just leave that window open for when dh comes on the computer in a bit

mou · 11/11/2008 06:58

Perhaps we could do MN shipping order and get them at reduced cost. I want a spare pair of running shoes from santa.

Will get a good run today, not sure of the distance as it is through woods and over the moors, so exhilerating. Don't care about the rain. I got a cheap thinsulate hat that keeps me dry and lets my head breathe.

I do find it hard to kep my phone dry though, has anyone got any solutions please?

Themasterandmargaritas · 11/11/2008 07:30

Gosh you are all so inspiring, that I popped out a 10k this morning in the rain and mud. But I managed to go 5 minutes under my last few times, I think now I know I can do it, I shall push myself a little harder each time.

Good news on the lack of blood Saggar.

Please can you give me some website names/ideas for clothing options...?

mou · 11/11/2008 07:49

Flippin' 'eck, marg, 10k by 7:30, that's pretty inspiring!!

Themasterandmargaritas · 11/11/2008 08:34

I am three hours ahead of you

fishie · 11/11/2008 10:29

i get terrible earache in wind but find that headphones completely stops it.

bra but from john lewis. i tried on loads and it is firm but not actually solid. my old one had started to rub badly where i have shrunk / it has grown.

that garmin thingy looks super but a bit big. do you think one might be mugged for it?

i now turn my attention to socks. what are nice for keeping feet dry?

sfxmum · 11/11/2008 11:14

hi all

online shop here

have code for figleaves so might get another bra, so far been wearing shock absorber 4 I really need armour style stuff

one more day to go till I can go out again and have this annoying cold

saggar nosebleed an issue? still good to hear no blood this time

about HRM I think I need to understand more how it works I can see how the warnings would drive me mad

mou · 11/11/2008 12:59

Have done so much running/cycling I no longer have anything left for a bra to support!, but wear one as a token gesture.
Made me smile marge....still impressed.

fishie · 11/11/2008 14:25

sfxmum i tried a triumph and it was like a bit of wood, so if you really want stiff thats the one. i fear it would rub if not perfect fit though, no give at all in it.

i have just rushed off to john lewis and got socks. also looked at trousers, they are all shiny black o yuck. i think it is a bad time of year for running clothes shopping.

ambercat · 11/11/2008 14:41

Thanks sfxmum, i've ordered a jacket and new long sleeved running top, both in the sale!

Managed 7 miles today, rain held off and the sun eeven came out, there was a lovely cool breeze. I really enjoyed it today, feel like i've run further than i have though, my legs are very tired now and still have to walk to school and back!

sfxmum · 11/11/2008 15:10

fishie I meant boobs don't move rather than stiff bra am a 34f so choice can be limited

I might get some running tights as my bottoms are all loose but might be too embarrassing with all the tightness really need some new shoes and that is the priority

have an UP&running shop near me with that gait analyser gizmo so might pop in to check am wearing the right shoes

fishie · 11/11/2008 15:24

i'm a 34e and ended up in 36dd in that freya - strangely as freya generally have gigantic cups. john lewis have a good range, much more than on website and will fit you. anyway no bounce, dh made me jump up and down to check.

am going to try going out in dark tonight eek.

Themasterandmargaritas · 11/11/2008 19:01

Thanks sfxmum, that website is great, there is even some hot weather gear at bargainatious prices in the sale!

Another one with no norks to supportworry about here.

sfxmum · 11/11/2008 19:36

thanks fishie

you are welcome master&margerita (love the book)

hi all question if you please, have always wore ascis GT models but am contemplating Saucony and Mizuno atm mostly on basis of cost
any experience? grateful for feedback

slow an easy 3miles this morning hope to do better tomorrow probably in the rain

hatwoman · 12/11/2008 14:22

hi sfxmum - I've got mizuno - on the basis that the man in the shop watched me run and said I didn't need anything more expensive - ie I didn;t particularly need the extra support /cushioning from more expensive ones. they seem fine except that one of them is a touch too big. they came up very small so I ended up with a size bigger than normal and I regret it - as they really are too big (but the next ones down wouldn;t have been any good either) - so I can't say whether that's all to do with my foot or their shape/sizing. have you been to a running shop and got them to look at your running? that's probably quite important.

fishie · 12/11/2008 14:49

i was prescribed saucony mens in the running shop. they are very good and comfy, all my hip pains went away immediately.

sfxmum · 12/11/2008 15:05

thanks both I seem to need support with cushioning but nothing major it seems, probably should go back to shop to check gait as it has been a few years, pre dd, ended up ordering a Saucony very cheap (relatively) and seems adequate, bit of an impulse buy and got gloves too mine have gone missing

hatwoman · 12/11/2008 15:32

does anyone run in the evenings after eating their dinner? On the occasions I've run in the evening it's been before dinner - which always used to be v. late (running at 7 or 8, eating at 9) but now both dh and I are working at home we quite often eat with the kids at about 6.30. any opinions on whether an 8.30 run once the kids are in bed would be ok? Desperately trying to work out how the hell I'm going to fit in all my training. when I told dh about the marathon he said "If we don;t see you for 6 months because you're either working or running you're divorced." one of those jokey but meaningful comments.

Lapsedrunner · 12/11/2008 19:02

hatwoman - can you run in the morning? I admit I'm much more a morning than an evening runner and all my marathon experience was pre ds...an even then it was an effort!
I just know I would never be able to motivate myself to go out after eating and after ds in bed (& dark, & wet etc, etc)
