I can't find the old one in Health, and we deserve to be in brand new shiny Sport and exercise anyway

sfxmum - Saucony are good, I have the Omni Grid Stabil....??? (not sure of exact model)

mou · 12/11/2008 19:58

I have to run after dinner if I go out in the evening, and can't warm up properly as I only really have an hour, so I walk for about 1/4 mile, slow run another 1/4 and then pick up to a steady pace and that works for me. I don't get stitch or cramps.

hatwoman · 12/11/2008 20:18

lapsedrunner - I normally do run in the morning, but the choices are either 6.30 am - ok if I've got myself in bed early enough - or 9 am after I've dropped the kids off when I'm meant to be working - I'm self-employed and work from home and am struggling to be disciplined about it. even a short run at 9 am, followed by shower etc means I don;t start work til 10.30 or even 11. I just need to find a way to vary it too - partly to lessen the impact on dh. but looking at teh weather and feeling my tummy right now there's no chance of getting out there. maybe in the spring...

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 12/11/2008 20:26

I run much better in the mornings. Evenings I just feel knackered.

I wear Asics GT - I've tried others but they seem to aggravate my achilles and I come back to my trusty Asics.

Dh swears by his Saucony.

Lapsedrunner · 12/11/2008 20:32

hatwoman - I guess it's "horses for courses", for me it would be 06:30 (or even 06:00) or bust

sfxmum · 12/11/2008 20:37

thanks for all the feedback on trainers

about time to run definitely early mornings in summer/ weekend and after dd at preschool on wed/thu
can't do evening just no motivation at all, the only time I did evening was at gym next to work in days gone by

fishie · 12/11/2008 21:18

hatwoman i have set times for exercise, childcare sorted, the lot. so i have got to go. but nobody can complain either.

MrsWednesday · 12/11/2008 21:32

Have failed to get out myself so far this week due to working late, then parents evening etc (missed running club - boo!). Went out after my tea a couple of weeks ago, about 8pm and it was hard - I felt tired and and had stitch from running so soon after eating! So no useful advice, sorry.

nappyaddict · 12/11/2008 23:56

oooh i really want to start running so this is just the thread for me. does anyone run 5+ times a week?

mou · 13/11/2008 07:57

I do! I run every day if I can pull it off!

Go for it NA,, there really isn't any down side to it (apart from grumpy dh's)

The only time I don't run is if I get out on my bike instead. Will do both if I get the chance.

Happy running.

Twink · 13/11/2008 08:25

Some great efforts this week! Good to hear the nose was blood free Saggars.

I'm still stuck in the gym, got a physio appointment tomorrow so hopefully she'll wave a magic wand and my hamstring will be restored to normal & I can get out again. The crosstrainer just isn't the same AND I've picked up my first cold in years

These sites are good for Christmas wishlists:

Girls Run Too

Less Bounce

She Active

My favourite socks are Falke RU4's I usually get them in black to hide the mud from my off-road antics. They're hideously expensive but they last for years. I've also got some Thorlos ones too which are good.

Have a good day all, I'm off to the gym...

MissChief · 13/11/2008 09:38

how's everyone doing? hard in the rain/gloom,isn't it?
Anynoe else find they peak after a few weeks then seem to go backwards in terms of fitness/speed/duration of runs? am hopingthis is normal, but am struggling this week tocomplete 30 min run I've easilty done on an extended basis to 1 hr recently. Am a bit coldy, a bit knackered, so maybe that's why.
Agree re asics trainers, good ones. But having read this thread, must change my socks! Currently wear whatever manky, holey ones I find!

futurity · 13/11/2008 09:56

finding it hard to get out this week. Was going to go out yesterday morning but DS2 climbed in bed and looked cute and it was so nice cuddling him that I couldn't face getting up! I hate having to run at 7.30..not a good time for me!

sfxmum · 13/11/2008 10:02

oh poop! when I finished run yesterday I felt a slight pull on my right leg but today it was totally impossible to run, whenever I tired it really really hurt from knee to buttock and oh so frustrating

hope it is better by Saturday, never had this before and no idea how it came about other than was wearing old shoes yesterday and the ground was slipery

sfxmum · 13/11/2008 10:02

tired - tried wasn't tired but tried a lot

MissChief · 13/11/2008 10:08

hope you get better soon, pain isn't it? Could well be slippery ground i guess, unbelievably so atm. That#'s my excuse!

nappyaddict · 13/11/2008 10:13

mou - wow i am impressed by every day!! do you manage that often? i don't think i would have the time.

Themasterandmargaritas · 13/11/2008 11:16

nappy I try for 3 times a week, alternate days and it seems to be working for me.

I feel quite confident now about running 10k but how many times a week should i do it? Should I do it all the three times or should I only do it once then shorter runs the other two times so as not to push myself too hard?

hatwoman · 13/11/2008 11:47

hi everyone. I went running twice today! not sure that's entirely advisable and my legs are feeling it but I was feeling guilty about not having gone yesterday so I got up at 6.30 went for 3.5 miles, came home, took the dog for a walk, came home, took dds to school then went for another 3.5 with some friends from school. so by 10 am I'd done 2 runs, dog walk and school run. (not done a lot since, mind...)

mou · 13/11/2008 15:12

Most weeks NA if I am very very good. But I am self employed and my children are at school so I can play with my time. And I often work in evenings so I think it balances out fairly. Weekends always one day but have to be careful about both days.....and I do take DS and DD out running or cycling so I squeeze it in one way or another and NO I am not addicted!!!!, just healthily obsessed. And the scenery around here is to die for.

OrmIrian · 13/11/2008 15:16

mou - don't you get achey if you run every day? I know I'm being extra careful atm but even when I'm not I find I can't run every day. If I do I am so sore. But I am an old gimmer who has to take care of her rickety old body .Not that I'd ever be able to fit in a daily run.

MissChief · 13/11/2008 15:17

2 runs in a day, wow! Am idly wondering whether to go out soon in all this rain or wait til tomorrow. Old creaky bones here too!

nappyaddict · 13/11/2008 15:26

mou - you run and cycle in the same day aswell! even more impressed than before. you lot put me to shame. right so what are the best sort of running shoes?

mou · 13/11/2008 15:31

Orm, no, I get achey if I don't! Pretty old myself.

As I say, I am lucky that I am self employed. Plus I don't drive and for simple shops it really can be quicker to run into town and back than try and fit in with the busses. That or cycle, but for some reason I would rather get wet running than cycling.

Are you improving Orm?

sfxmum · 13/11/2008 15:32

I have heard of people who run everyday no matter the distance but just want to get out, can't remember what they called them in the article (not addict )

I feel 4x a week is ok for my old bones and some other activity on the non run days
