I can't find the old one in Health, and we deserve to be in brand new shiny Sport and exercise anyway

carrying stuff really gets to me too. I have to have my ipod - for both music and stop watch - and generally carry it in my hand - so if I take water too I have both hands full. which I really hate. dh has a camelback thing but I've not used it as I think it would bob around a lot and annoy me. if dh would buy me a garmin for Christmas then I could put the ipod into some silly carrier thing and would be much happier. I've never eaten when running. I sometimes take a sports drink intead of water - but only if going more than 10. In fact I don;t take water if I'm doing less than 10. which I probably should

MrsWednesday · 08/11/2008 23:05

I keep telling myself I'll do a marathon before I'm 40 (I'm 37 now so time is disappearing fast...)

Hatwoman, have you got your place already sorted?

Carrying water annoys me too, and makes my arms ache. Managed 6.5 miles today but didn't take water out with me and was really thirsty by the end. Must try and take some sweets with me next time (if I can stop the kids eating them first).

hatwoman · 08/11/2008 23:14

mrs w - that was exactly my thinking too. so it was either 2009 or 2010!

I messed up on the entries this year - with them changing the dates, but I've got a charity place - for Merlin - an organisation I think is fantastic - does medical and health work in disasters and conflicts.

sfxmum · 09/11/2008 09:54

I have misses that boat hatwoman/mrsW 40 in a couple of months oh well before 50 then

happy running!

futurity · 09/11/2008 13:12

did 8 miles today took some wine gums with me but no water.needed a toilet stop after an hour so sneeked into the local gym and had a drink of water and a few wine gums and set off again feeling so much better.

Feeling ok now apart from grumpy husband and whiney kids!

OrmIrian · 09/11/2008 13:14

5.8 miles this morning. Totally flat route and very sloooow. But I'm still pleased.

Threadworrm · 09/11/2008 13:40

I went for a longish run this morning and ended up walking chuks of it. I kidded myself that it was because the surroundings were too beautiful to rush through, but really I was being lazy.

Threadworrm · 09/11/2008 13:41

chunks not chuks.

Perhaps it is because my muscles have been strengthened by the gym and are now strong enough to make me faster, thus stressing my breathing more.

sfxmum · 09/11/2008 14:12

did 4 again this morning faster than usual which was nice now have to wait for Wednesday to be able to go out again

sorry about aches my right thigh is a bit sore but nothing major

Wallace · 09/11/2008 20:30

This thread is busy!

I train without water up to about 11/12 miles. I know I shouldn't but tis eaier!

OrmIrian · 09/11/2008 20:31

Never take water. Too much hassle. I take inhaler, MP3 player, tissue and sometimes a debit card if I need to pop into Asda on the way home More than enough.

futurity · 09/11/2008 21:34

lol at popping into asda! I couldn't pop in anywhere at the end of a run as I look a sight!
Legs are aching this evening..oh well..no running until Wednesday..time to recover. Actually do play netball on Tuesday night which I like as I like being in a team...I feel that the running suits me as a solo thing where as the running gives me interaction with other humans!

mou · 09/11/2008 21:49

Too tired for a run, pouring with rain, feeling unmotivated, on the way home from parents and then...... I saw someone else running!
Quick change and a good run in the rain. Got a fab hat and did a good time (for me). 10k in 55 mins.
I like running to the shops if I do not need too much, it is quicker than getting the bus!

MrsWednesday · 09/11/2008 22:38

Perhaps you could do one whilst you're still 40 sfxmum

Have you started marathon training then Hatwoman? (I'm pumping you for information, can you tell? I'll be signed up for one before you know it!)

Sore foot and knee here after yesterday but I've caught the running bug again after being on here. My motivation had been flagging recently.

OrmIrian · 10/11/2008 08:11

futurity - I look (and smell) vile. But it saves time. I think that staff in Asda are used to seeing me stagger in red in the face and sweaty. I just make sure I dont stand too close to anyone.

futurity · 10/11/2008 11:39

lol...I smell AWFUL after a run! Just foul! I think if i popped into a shop after a run I would be tempted to eat LOTS of chocolate by thinking "well my Garmin says I have burnt off 800 cals so I can eat that!"

OrmIrian · 10/11/2008 11:42

I can't eat after a run. I don't even want a drink, I have to force myself to drink water. By the time I am showered and dressed I could eat an elephant mind you

fishie · 10/11/2008 11:47

gosh some of you do run far i am well impressed. i did 6k on friday and 9k on saturday and thought i was superwoman.

i work and leave house at 7am so can only really go at weekends in winter. perhaps i should try road running in evenings (am usually on grass / woods /path). what do you think runners? do i need reflective thingies?

and what is this garmin, is it a big satnav thing from car or is there a little runners one?

ambercat · 10/11/2008 11:48

went for a run intorrential downpour this morning, it was AWFUL! cars kept driving through the puddles and i got absolutly soaked. only did half of what i planned and gave up and came home. Think i need to invest in a decent waterpfoof jacket, anyone know where i can get a cheap one?

hatwoman · 10/11/2008 15:27

hello again. feeling very virtuous today. I got up at 6.30 and by 7.45 I'd been out for a 3 mile run and taken the dog for a walk. amd managed to do both before it started chucking it down.

fishie - garmins are indeed sat navs - they make several types - some more geared for hiking, some for running. last time I looked (which was about a year ago) the "forerunner" was my favourite - but I think its two or three hundred quid. you wear it on your wrist and it has lots of fun gizmos - obviously it measures and times your run but also any climb and your pace, keeps a log book for you and (apparently) has this memory thing that allows you to race yourself. re road running in the dark - I've done it - not massively keen but I choose well-lit built up areas. I have to admit I don;t wear reflective stuff but I always wear a white t-shirt. I think that's the minimum.

Mrs w - it depends what you mean by "training". I find it all a bit strange that all schedules tend to be 16 weeks long and anything you do before that doesn;t really count as "training". most perpelxing. I was just looking this morning at some - wondering waht to do for the next 4 weeks or so before I launch into a "proper" programme. I think the minimum and most important thing is to make sure I'm getting out 4 times a week.

ambercat - I went to a runners shop to look for a waterproof and was at the prices. I thin their cheapest was about £30 but some were about £70. which made me wonder what was wrong with the £30 ones and come away with nothing...

sfxmum · 10/11/2008 16:35

I never buy gear in shops always online considerably cheaper just go to shops to try stuff on

mrsW a plan indeed

Wallace · 10/11/2008 17:45

I got my stuff from Aldi!

OP posts:
ambercat · 10/11/2008 18:07

thanks will have a look online, will need to get one i think as the weather is only going to get worse i think!

Anyone else use a hrm? i do atm but not really sure wether to keep bothering with it as the minute i start going uphill it alarms and i end up nearly walking! it puts me off my stride a bit.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 10/11/2008 18:21

I got soaked yesterday.

But no nosebleed

fishie · 10/11/2008 20:27
