I can't find the old one in Health, and we deserve to be in brand new shiny Sport and exercise anyway

OP posts:

Am reading with as I'm stuck in with a hellish throat infection.

Dreaming - the first 10 minutes of my run are always vile. I hate that bit and feel much better afterwards. Respect to you for being back out so soon.

TinyWhiteFeather · 02/01/2009 10:47

We are the 'Triple F's' (fit, fabulous and Fourty). Not exclusive in any way, but something for the younguns to aspire to!

Sorry for your throat Saggar. I still try and run, and sweat it out. Seems to work for me, but perhaps not advisable.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 02/01/2009 10:52

Tiny, I'm still in my bed [wimp] so not likely to be going anywhere bar maybe a stroll to the corner shop.

The joys of the wireless laptop.

TinyWhiteFeather · 02/01/2009 10:56

Must admit I didn't run with a stomach bug yesterday! lol.

mrsmike · 02/01/2009 11:00

I am oldest MN runner?!!! That is quite shocking!

My usual running partner is 60 and 10 times better than me.

sfxmum · 02/01/2009 11:49

mrsmike that is why I took up running just watching much older people much fitter and having a great time here is hoping

been out again this morning looks pretty and sunny out

hope all bugs vanish immediately, the pesky little things

HarrogateMum · 02/01/2009 11:59

happy new year all. Finally got out for first run of the year (and first for 4 weeks....eeeeek). Only managed just under 3 miles and was sloooooow. Oh well, got to build it up again!

TinyWhiteFeather · 02/01/2009 15:51

Going for a run tonight as my DD has melted my brain with her incessant chatter.. I really don't know how anybody can talk so much. She has got 5 china dolls and she is talking for them as well! Lol. Bless.

Going to try my first 10k for a few weeks. Fingers crossed. Am feeling bubbly and excited at thought of going out.

dreamingofagreenlawnchristmas · 02/01/2009 18:20

I loved my first race, not that I was going for some great time or anything, but as someone else said I don't think I've ever matched it for the sheer feeling of yes I did it!

I finished it 10 minutes behind the guy pushing his adult disabled son in a wheelchair, so I'm definitely one of the "no chatting at the back there" oldies

Twink · 02/01/2009 18:49

Dreaming, never worry about being towards the back - especially if the couple you saw were the legendary Mick n Phil.

Mick's an excellent runner and the pair of them do races all over the place, a real inspiration. Their story is here and well worth a look as it helps to put the everyday problems we all face into perspective!

dreamingofagreenlawnchristmas · 02/01/2009 18:55

Yes, it was Mick n Phil, I thought I recognised the names. I definitely used running to get myself out of a state of depression, so I take my (woolly) hat off to the pair of them just for being so downright cheerful and making me feel I'd got everything to be grateful for!

MrsWednesday · 02/01/2009 19:08

I'm popping in to put it in writing that I'm going out for at least 8 miles tomorrow morning, so it's official - I have to go now!

Twink, did your DH get to the gym today? He is inspirational.

Good luck in your race mrsmike . Has anyone else got one coming up?

I think we are all fabulous and sprightly regardless of age as we are actually getting out there and running, no matter how far or fast we go. I'm 37 and definitely feel fitter and more energetic than I have done in years because of doing more exercise.

Hope all bugs and illnesses clear up soon.

MrsWednesday · 02/01/2009 19:10

I've just read that link and I'm all tearful now!

SachaF · 02/01/2009 21:16

Wow dreaming, that is quite impressive so soon after a c-section! My dc2 is 15 weeks old and I had an easy birth (dh delivered as we didn't call the MW in time so must have been easy) and I would ache loads if I did 3 miles - I stopped at 2.5miles yesterday. If your breathing was fine then it just means your muscles need to get used to it all again - imo easier than if your aerobic system was struggling!

MrsW, I'll be with you in mind during your 8miler! I look forward to doing that distance again (a few more months.....).
We are planning a shopping trip tomorrow and I'm thinking going running with kids is easier than shopping....

Take care all.

TinyWhiteFeather · 02/01/2009 21:59

Wow...have read the link.

Will do a run with them in mind as one of my inspired runs.

Had a lovely run tonight. Faster than I expected, and leg holding steady. Really lost myself and could have just kept going. It is so peaceful in the town later on.

Am going to try and run with DS on his bike over weekend as he is really keen, but I have to run like a maniac.

I am applying gentle pressure to try and do an organised race....fingers crossed.

HarrogateMum · 03/01/2009 09:55

need motivation again. Did 4.5km yesterday and got my gear on to go again but had really bad nights sleep.........should I go out again ladies? Bearing in mind 10km on 1st Feb!!

mrsmike · 03/01/2009 10:06

yes go!
I often go after being woken up in the night by ds and never feel any the worse (bearing in mind I might feel not good anyway)

HarrogateMum · 03/01/2009 11:45

thanks mrsmike! I did go. Managed 6.5 kms and was puffing and panting all the way round. My problem seems to be that my legs are willing but its my breathing and lungs that let me down so if anyone has any tips for improving this side of things, let me know!!

MrsWednesday · 03/01/2009 18:56

I think the cold weather makes it harder on the lungs for some reason - you did well to get out again HM! Where is your 10k, is it local?

V impressive going out so soon after having a baby, I barely did anything after my two were born, was too busy sitting on the settee eating chocolate

How did your DH cope with delivering your baby SachaF? Must have been frightening! Had similar when my DS2 was born (planned homebirth but left it too late to ring the midwife) and my DH was in a right panic! All worked out ok in the end though.

Good luck with the gentle pressure TWF. What's his main objection to you doing one, is it the time commitment?

I managed to do 9 miles (got to increase my distance v quickly as have a half marathon in 6 weeks...eek) but my left knee is definitely feeling sore now so will have to lie down and drink wine this evening to aid recovery

TinyWhiteFeather · 03/01/2009 20:00

MrsW... I'm not completely sure..without being disloyal, he is very possessive . But was a little less 'anti' when I mentioned it recently.

The cold weather doesn't bother my lungs or asthma surprisingly, but my joints....aaarrrrggghhh!

Hadn't taken in that your H delivered LO..SachaF. WOW, How beautiful for you both.

Ran tonight but probably shouldn't have done. Insomnia is bad again and I was already exhausted. But felt good for it mentally.

Will take the day off tomorrow, or cycle.

mrsmike · 03/01/2009 21:53

Harrogatemum, I am the other way round if anything - breathing ok but legs want to give up. Doing 10 mile race in the morning and feeling sooooooooo anxious tonight! Partly because I don't know the course and think its hilly, partly as I'll be one of the last to finish. But I do keep telling myself it is just an achievement to actually do it, and to finish, which I wouldn't have dreamed I could this time last year. Wish me luck MN runners

Twink · 03/01/2009 22:17

MrsM, you will be absolutely fine, may well not be one of the last, and hey someone has to be - and they usually get at least as big a cheer as the first placed. Don't try to think about the course, you'll probably find it's not as bad in reality.

Enjoy yourself, as you say, it's a great achievement to have come so far in a year. Around 90% of the UK population couldn't run 10 miles so you can feel very chuffed with yourself.

Look forward to hearing about it tomorrow.

Good luck!!

mrsmike · 03/01/2009 22:21

Thank you. I do need a kick up the bum with this. Thing is I have been looking at last year's results for this race - sharp intake of breath

Twink · 03/01/2009 22:24

Hi MrsW.

Unfortunately MrTwink wasn't up to getting on his treadmill yesterday (does anyone else always use 'their' treadmill at the gym ??) BUT, he made it today Set off for 25 mins then increased it a minute at a time until he thought he'd collapse at the back of the belt. He then managed some weights and came home for a nap before MiniTwink & I got back from her skiing lesson [she passed her level 4 today so qualifies as a 'recreational skier' so is dead pleased with herself]

I did 6k on the crosstrainer plus 1k on the treadmill so all in all a good day in the Twink household compared to recent times

sfxmum · 03/01/2009 22:25

quick drop by to wish mrsmike goo luck for tomorrow

and mrsW happy prep for half marathon yikes

I will stick to short run in the morning then panto in the afternoon should be fun a first for dd
