I can't find the old one in Health, and we deserve to be in brand new shiny Sport and exercise anyway

Yes I think so thanks mou. I haven't had a run since Sunday - not had the chance. But will go tonight or tomorrow.

nappyaddict · 13/11/2008 15:44

Orm - are you still walking to work aswell?

OrmIrian · 13/11/2008 15:57

Not atm nappy. I have to drop DCs at school first so don't have time to walk.

nappyaddict · 13/11/2008 15:59

I was going to say doing that aswell as running is very good!! How far is it to your work?

OrmIrian · 13/11/2008 16:05

About 1.5 miles.

hatwoman · 13/11/2008 16:23

what's the shortest run anyone does? once I've dragged myself out I feel I have to do at least 3m. but sometimes I wonder whether there's a benefit to running back from school after drop off and/or to school for pick up. (seeing as I walk it anyway). in theory it would be quicker than walking but it feels like a bit of a faff for not much benefit and would throw my showering schedule awry. it's about a kilometre. (I'm s-e too mou - you sound very disciplined. If I run during the day I just write the time off, rather than make up for it in the evenings. I know I really ought to)

ambercat · 13/11/2008 16:37

hatwomen i also try and do at least 3 miles or i don't feel like i've done it properly! every now and then i go for a very fast 1 mile run to see if i'm getting any faster!

mou · 13/11/2008 16:56

Shortest is about 5 miles as I have favourite routes that I can add to if I want to do more. One is a well lit road run for night runs and one is pretty well off road which I love.

Wallace · 13/11/2008 18:30

Shortest is about 20 minutes I consider it a good week if I manage to get out 3 times a week. Only been out once this week, but hae had D&V bug so I think I will be forgiven.

A friend and I are going to try to do some interval training tomorrow

Hi ladies, didn't realise there was a 'sports and exercise' section now so I've just spent ages trying to read through!

Ok, introduction. Been 'running' (don't like the jogging term either, but I'm pretty slow) for probably about 6 months. Did a RFL 5k in the summer and was ok at that distance for a while but did my knee in hiking at the beginning of september and I've been shocking at going running ever since. And now the clocks have gone back its even worse. I'm a sahm with a toddler and a 3 year old and can't go in the mornings as dh leaves for work at 6 am.

I'm embarking on an experimenting with running with the buggy while dd1 is at playschool - did 15 mins yesterday which is rubbish but better than not going at all. DD2 thinks its hilarious so I'll try again next week! Thinking about doing 1 run with buggy, 1 run at weekend and then doing an exercise class and a swim to see me through the winter.

Blimey, too long - going now!

OrmIrian · 13/11/2008 19:34

My shortest is about 5 miles too - well normally. At the moment my longest is about 5 miles .

mou · 13/11/2008 23:03

Snuck out for a second run today...

Hi SparklyPrincess, sounds good.

It always gets me if I see someone else running, even if I have just been.
Not sure what to do tomorrrow, have to work away from home so might encorporate a detour.

fishie · 14/11/2008 09:07

i sometimes do 20mins as fast as i can, have special faster playlist for it. that is for when i am short of daylight/time.

having tried a road run earlier in week i am really feeling it, back is aching rather. is this just a normal reaction to a different surface or should i return to my nice grass/paths and forget about pavements?

sfxmum · 14/11/2008 09:11

feeling very got so frustrated yesterday, still feels sore today but will head out tomorrow and hope for the best

re road v grass/ towpaths I know what I prefer, roads make me ache

good going with the snuck second runs, enjoy

nappyaddict · 14/11/2008 10:23

Went on my first run today. Managed about 20 minutes but I did have to stop halfway and walk for a minute Can I ask what do you all put your phone, keys etc in? Do you have little bags or something? I tried holding them today but it was uncomfortable.

hatwoman · 14/11/2008 10:30

na - I tie the door key key to my shoe-lace. I don't take my phone - I reason that if I did really need to make a call (eg fell so badly I couldn't get up) some kind stranger would help. When I run near my mum's (v rural area) I feel I probably should take a phone but tend to forget. I sometimes use a money belt thinggy but rarely. It's uncomfy and annoying.

nappyaddict · 14/11/2008 10:32

i need to take my phone cos i run when ds it at playgroup so they might need to contact me.

sfxmum · 14/11/2008 10:35

I am fairly neurotic about phones so generally take mine unless dh&dd come with me at weekend, they come on the bike

I use a bag around waist it is ok really but occasionally annoying if it gets too loose and bounces about

nappyaddict · 14/11/2008 11:25

Mou - don't you get achey running twice in one day?

OrmIrian · 14/11/2008 13:22

I get so excited at the prospect of a run these days! I am going tonight. The reality isn't quite so good these days I am so unfit..... I know it's going to take time but it's so depressing....

SparklyPrincess · 14/11/2008 14:40

Nappyaddict - I've got a little bag thing that velcro's around my upper arm. Don't know where it came from sorry, it used to be dh's til he got a locker at work! Will ask him later, but it was probably sweatshop as that's where he normally goes. Doesn't wobble around and I can get phone, keys and iPod in it.

Now, do I run in the dark tonight ...

OrmIrian · 14/11/2008 15:51

Yes sparkly! Your sparkles will light your way

mou · 14/11/2008 16:41

Nappyaddict, I don't seem to ache from running at all, can't manage 40-45 degree inclines very well which is a challenge as I live in a hilly area.

My phone is also my music source and I have trackies with deep pockets. I have a waist band thing but it gets on my nerves. I sometimes use a camelpack which fits really snuggly in the summer but irritates me over cold weather gear.

I get really excited Orm, and if I get to go for a run unexpectedly, it is like getting a surprise pressie.

Still working on the christmas day run thing! Have asked for some new running shoes, and you can't have a new pressie and not try it out now can you. Oh I am shameless. he-he.

fishie · 14/11/2008 16:47

i came home early from work and did 6k. i only take ipod on velcro arm thing, keys hidden under leaves outside front door, no phone.

nappyaddict · 14/11/2008 20:23

where can i get the velcro arm thingy from?
