Hi all, just setting up a second thread - I hope you don’t mind @Jumbojem but the other one was getting a bit close to ending…

Sorry to keep harping on about the weather but it’s still raining up here so instead of running this morning I’m going to get back on my lovely water rowing machine which I’ve neglected totally since starting running back in Jan/Feb. I miss it (and I miss the muscle toning it gave me) so I’m going to get back on this morning for a change.

Might do parkrun tomorrow or a longer run, haven’t yet decided.

Arrh yes my lovely lady is used to me and it’s not a “relaxing” massage it’s very firm sports one but still relaxing in a different way as she’s such a kind person we have really interesting life chats as I’ve known her for years. She’s absolutely brilliant though more like a physio as also teaches massage & pilates so really knows her stuff. It’s my self care to keep me functioning.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 15/07/2025 20:07

@RunningInto and @BogRollBOGOF ah I see, yeah proper sports massages are not so relaxing. My friend who’s a Physio does them and I do quite fancy one.

I went out to run club tonight but missed the memo about football being on and to meet at the swimming pool instead (usually meet at the local football ground just near where I live). Didn’t have time to get down to the swimming pool and was just jogging home to get my dog, so we could run together, when heard someone shouting behind me and one of the lads from my usual group had also missed the memo so we did 10k together. I had my trail shoes on and ended up doing road so it was a bit hard work but still good to get out and nice to have some company.

tinks3110 · 15/07/2025 20:12

Well I’m back from a very soggy 4.5 miles with run club. Can’t believe the weather is so different from last week! Managed it in 45 mins and really pleased with that. Will do a 5k on Thursday and then got my 10k race on Sunday

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 15/07/2025 21:00

good luck for your 10k at the weekend @tinks3110.

The difference between the weather last week/the weekend and now is mad! it’s warmish here still, but really windy and a couple of times a day for the last couple of days it’s chucked it down really hard for about 10 mins. Dd2 got caught in it yesterday and was soaked! It was so windy running back up the foot path this evening that it felt like I was in a wind tunnel!

BogRollBOGOF · 15/07/2025 22:36

I'm normally a summer fan, but I can't pretend that it wasn't refreshing to have a cool, wet workout today!

I'll be happy to have summer resuming after my garden's had a good drink.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 17/07/2025 19:24

A very soggy 7.5k for me tonight but it was quite refreshing after a sticky day in the office!! only annoying thing was my watch was wet and I couldn't stop it quickly at the end of my run and now my pace is over just 8min/mile when it would have been about 7:50/mile.

don’t know why it bothers me so much. Probably because it’s taken a lot of work to run that pace over a distance and it was the only run this week I was planning to run fast.

never mind. Will have to try harder at park run now 😂😂.

hope everyone else is having a good running week now it’s cooled down a bit.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 17/07/2025 20:59

Hello runners, I'm in taper twitching time.

I ran to and from parkrun on Saturday to make it up to 7 miles.

I ran 4 miles on Sunday after a long car day.

I ran/walked 3 miles yesterday with a friend who is doing C25K.

I will run 2 miles tomorrow.

And 50K on Saturday <<wibble>>

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 17/07/2025 21:01

@OhOneOhTwoOhThree good luck for Saturday!! Very exciting!!

xsquared · 17/07/2025 21:49

I've just got back from a 10k race that I signed up for at minute. Wow! I was so not prepared for all the inclines amd cobbled streets.

Staggered to the finish line just after 46 minutes, which I'll take!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 17/07/2025 22:08

Sell done @xsquared , fabulous tine!

xsquared · 17/07/2025 22:12

Thank you.

BogRollBOGOF · 17/07/2025 22:22

46 mins. Respect Grin

I'm toying with upcoming race plans. Plan A is sign up for a Sept HM, and build up milage over August (HM3 of the year, most recently in June).
No alternative plans yet! Possibly 10ks if I have confidence concerns.

The big doubt is that I'll be returning to work after a somewhat significant break. I'm used to running in the school day rather than around FT working hours, so it will be a big change. Another practical layer is that I'll be on my feet all day, great for NEAT, but potentially knackering from previous experience in my younger days. I'll also have an active commute as it's quite near, so that's another energy factor.
So I'm just aware that particularly for longer distance running, it's not business as usual so I need to be careful about commitments and what I can feasibly train for.

On the plus side, the DCs are old enough that I can diddle off for runs freely.
On the awkward side, that means running in the dark and less freedom of routes for chunks of the year (I love trails). Plus I also need to factor long runs in around mum-taxi duties.

I keep reminding myself that my first year of running involved a bottle-refusing baby, and an abrupt return to work part-way through C25k. I still somehow got from W1 R1 to HM in 364 days!

RunningInto · 17/07/2025 22:30

Well done @xsquared fab time.

good luck @OhOneOhTwoOhThree hppe it’s not too warm for you.

hot humid 25c today but we did get some mizzle to dampen the brown lawn. Had a SeaDip first to ease my stiff joints then did 5k run on beach before work today. Finished the day on nearly 20k steps so my hips will be achy tomorrow I’m sure.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 18/07/2025 06:57

Well done @xsquared fantastic time!

@BogRollBOGOF youll find a way to fit it all in once you settle into a routine. I work full time and get in plenty of running. It’s good that your kids are at an age where they can easily be left. The winters are a little depressing but I just stick to road 5-10ks in the week and do a longer more scenic routes at the weekend.

@RunningInto beach running with a sea dip sounds lovely. It was super muggy here yesterday but then it poured down for a bit. Running in the rain was kind of refreshing though.

SoapCollector · 18/07/2025 20:21

Hi all I've not been out running for about a week. I'm planning on getting going again this weekend 🙂 I've been reading this thread though to keep up to date with you all! Not sure if I previously mentioned I managed 5k none stop running on a very flat course just over a week ago, took me 38mins. It seems I get faster times if a choose to do a walk run, rather than run it all! Anyone doing a parkrun tomorrow?

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 18/07/2025 20:59

Hi @SoapCollector hope you enjoy your run tomorrow.

I think I’m going to head to park run and trundle around there. My friends husband just messaged me and asked if I was going to I’ll run with him.

That is brilliant @SoapCollector 👏👏

tinks3110 · 19/07/2025 09:43

@SoapCollector
well done on your 5k!
I’ve been to strength class today but not parkrun as got my 10k tomorrow. Hoping for close to an hour, it’s forecast rain and thunderstorms so could be an interesting one!
enjoy your weekend runs everyone!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 19/07/2025 11:38

Well done for your continuous 5k @SoapCollector its a great achievement!

park run for me today, nice that it wasn’t as hot as last week!! I was a bit tired after intervals last night but still Managed 30 seconds faster than last week so all good.

RunningInto · 19/07/2025 12:30

Well done @SoapCollector great 5k. Fab parkrun @Whataninterestinglookingpotato and good luck tomorrow @tinks3110 hope the 10k goes well.

Very humid here but had made the most of of the low tide conditions for an early 6k beach and path run before all the tourists descend.

BogRollBOGOF · 19/07/2025 12:37

A lovely, average parkrun for me. My times are picking up after having to slow down with a dodgy ankle in the spring.

I've been leaving my watch on heart rate and ignoring pace.

Jumbojem · 19/07/2025 14:47

Hello! I am back from a long holiday (3 weeks!) and had 170 posts to catch up on. Well done everyone on keep on running through the heat, wet and humidity (especially!) of the UK.
I am hoping I'm heat acclimated now as been in over 30 degrees pretty much the whole time. Given that, not a lot of holiday running. Did manage a few 5ks, mainly v early a.m but one was 2.5k uphill to a church high above the town, even the downhill in the heat felt hard work (made my knees hurt!). I will attach some spam photos taken on my runs, as it was so lovely (Montenegro, Bosnia and the last one Dubrovnik).
@xsquared wow, great time for your last minute race.
@OhOneOhTwoOhThree hope the race today is going well. Expect you're looking forward to that post run ice cream, beer or whatever your celebration of choice is.
I need to up my miles now I'm back for the Bristol to Bath 25k in September.

Stunning photos @Jumbojem!

Good luck today @OhOneOhTwoOhThree :)

I’ve not been for a run since last week’s parkrun. Been one of those weeks really and strangely I’ve felt bored with running - I think it’s just that the routes I do have become too familiar and I’ve not had a chance to get out in the evening this week so haven’t thought about a longer route.

Was hoping to do parkrun this morning but had a headache and now I’m packing for our holiday (off to Marrakech tomorrow for a week).

So I’ll catch up with you all when I get back and hopefully I’ll be more enthusiastic about running again too!

Amazing photos @Jumbojem I’m going to try running on holiday this year. It’ll mean getting out early, which I’m not amazing at, but your pictures are inspiring me to do it even more!

good luck today @OhOneOhTwoOhThree

well done on parkrun @BogRollBOGOF i have done a couple of heart rate runs this week where I paid more attention to my heart rate than pace and they made my V02 max go up. So they must be good for you!

enjoy your holiday @Sparticle I’m sure you’ll feel ready to run again when you return.

Fizbosshoes · 19/07/2025 17:09

Wonder how you got on/are getting on @OhOneOhTwoOhThree it's absolutely chucked it down almost continually here from about 5am- 1pm. I did 5 miles incorporating parkrun which was quite refreshing but I don't think I'd have wanted to be out for hours in the rain. But when you've trained long and hard for something it really is lucky dip what weather arrives on race day. I hope it went well !

We had a fun informal race evening at running club on Thursday which i really enjoyed, and I hope to go back to track on Tuesday for the first time in ages.
I bought a bikini last week and (stupidly) compared myself unfavourably to someone else and did a workout targeting glutes, core and inner thighs on Wednesday.im still feeling the burn today! Confused
