Hi all, just setting up a second thread - I hope you don’t mind @Jumbojem but the other one was getting a bit close to ending…

Sorry to keep harping on about the weather but it’s still raining up here so instead of running this morning I’m going to get back on my lovely water rowing machine which I’ve neglected totally since starting running back in Jan/Feb. I miss it (and I miss the muscle toning it gave me) so I’m going to get back on this morning for a change.

Might do parkrun tomorrow or a longer run, haven’t yet decided.

@SoapCollector I use mainly sensitive baby 50+ sunscreen as I’m very fair skinned I never put it on my forehead but wear a visor instead that avoids any going in my eyes. Been using this one lately it’s been ok www.childsfarm.com/products/childs-farm-50-spf-sun-lotion-cream-fragrance-free

Thanks @RunningInto I never thought of using a baby sun screen, the visor sounds like a good idea too.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 29/06/2025 13:16

@SoapCollector im a bit rubbish and generally forget to wear sun cream. My usual face cream does have factor 15 spf in it though so haven’t really had a problem so far.

harp done today and despite being just a tad hungover I came in with a time of 1:49:35 so smashed my 1:55 target!! Very pleased with that!!

BogRollBOGOF · 29/06/2025 14:21

I use P20 for running. For my face, I put it up to my eye line, but leave my forehead free and protected by my cap's peak. It's more sweat-resistant than creams. I use them on shorter runs (usually Aldi own brand) when I won't sweat them off so thoroughly as they're cheaper and less messy to apply.

IHadaMarvelousTimeRuiningEverything · 29/06/2025 14:37

I've been running consistently now for over 2 years but haven't been able to run for the past month due to an op. Great South Run training starts end of July so looking forward to getting back to it.

I did my first spring marathon this year and so was in the gym and out running religiously from January onwards and I've got a cracking summer body as a result 😂 motivated me enough to book in another spring marathon for next year.

That's an amazing time well done!! Which half was that? My half marathon pb is 2.03 and id like to get that to a sub 2hr by the end of the year all going well.

Thank you. It was the heron half which is run by our local naval base. It’s only a local one but it’s a good course for a PB. It’s reasonably flat with only one real hill. It’s the first official half I’ve done but I’ve run that distance myself just for something to do 😂.

planning on a spring road marathon next year and then a trail ultra in July!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 29/06/2025 16:20

Brilliant work @Whataninterestinglookingpotato ! Well done.

I bailed at 17 miles and phoned DH to pick me up. I’d been exploring and badly nettled and scratched my legs and just wanted to be in a cool shower. Plan was 19, so not that far off.

Sparticle · 29/06/2025 16:47

Wow well done on the fab time @Whataninterestinglookingpotato! 👏🏻

It is finally not raining up here today! I couldn’t get out this morning so went out at 2:45, aiming to run 12km, my longest. It was far too hot though and I had to keep pausing which I never do so I only did just over 6km.

At least I got out though ☺️

And blimey @OhOneOhTwoOhThree that’s a great distance 😊

That's a fantastic time @Whataninterestinglookingpotato well done you!

Thanks all for the sunscreen recommendations. My face gets super hot when running (tomato red!) so maybe not putting it on my forehead might help me.

SoapCollector · 29/06/2025 17:34

Well done on getting out today @Sparticle 😀

@OhOneOhTwoOhThree 17 miles is fantastic, well done.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 29/06/2025 17:43

@OhOneOhTwoOhThree you have my respect. 17 miles in this heat is a lot.

NormaMajors1992coat · 29/06/2025 18:22

Congrats to @Whataninterestinglookingpotato - under 1:50 with a hangover is epic

And to @OhOneOhTwoOhThree for 17 miles, I can’t imagine what it’s like to go that far, v inspiring for a newbie.

I have week 10/2 of C210K looming, maybe tomorrow if I’m brave enough - 5x 10min runs with increasing walks in between of 1, 2, 3, 4 mins. 50 mins of running and 60 mins total feels like a big step up from previous longest of 40/43. Hopefully I might finally go over 5k by the end of the hour though!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 29/06/2025 18:40

Thank you all for your kind words. It was so much harder to do that distance on my own today than it was to run last weekend’s marathon.

Fizbosshoes · 29/06/2025 19:31

I didn't have a great race, but I wasn't chasing a pb in this heat. There was a lot of walking in the second half but just pleased to get round in one piece and my last 2 miles were some of my fastest (probs because I had walked a lot 😀)
I beat another lady in the final few hundred metres.
I took my own bottle of water, and took water at water stations but after half way the water they were giving out was warm - hot. I could probably have made a cup of tea with the bottle i took at 21k!

I wore a cap but I use a tropics factor 50 sun lotion on my face , it doesn't feel as sticky or greasy as some others but the smell isn't great.

The ice lolly I had at the end was amazing!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 29/06/2025 19:49

Well done @Fizbosshoes i was lucky that despite it being humid the sun didn’t actually come out properly until the race was over.

well done for finishing in the heat!!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 29/06/2025 19:50

Great work @Fizbosshoes - I bet that lolly was just what you needed!

There was no bag drop so I had no money and the only free stuff was cake (which I couldn't cope with ) bananas or water. I was literally drooling at the ice cream van but luckily my brother in law was at the finish and he bought lollies!

I use a mini run buddy pouch that clips to my back waistband if I'm running without a bag - room for a key a card and some cash. Its so useful I sometimes use it for concerts so I don't have to leave valuables in the green room.

Sparticle · 30/06/2025 09:46

I’m intrigued @Londonmummy66 - what concerts do you play in?

I sing - so choral works. It's really handy as I clip it to my trousers under the waistband and no one knows its there. If its a big choir the green rooms can get very crowded so its great not to have to go in them at all.

I also sing in choirs/choral soc. I’ve never thought of that, if I don’t have family/friends in the audience to hand my stuff over to I suppose I just try to bury by valuables so that is a good idea, thanks.

Sorry to derail the thread!

Think I started the derail so apologies from me too!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 30/06/2025 19:45

@Londonmummy66 and @Sparticle nothing wrong with a bit of derailment!

no running for me today as I finished work and sat in our large new garden pool (it’s really a big paddling pool 😂) with a beer and now I’ve have drunk 3 beers and won’t be going anywhere 😂. Hey ho. I’m not working tomorrow and the weathers nice.
