Hi all, just setting up a second thread - I hope you don’t mind @Jumbojem but the other one was getting a bit close to ending…

Sorry to keep harping on about the weather but it’s still raining up here so instead of running this morning I’m going to get back on my lovely water rowing machine which I’ve neglected totally since starting running back in Jan/Feb. I miss it (and I miss the muscle toning it gave me) so I’m going to get back on this morning for a change.

Might do parkrun tomorrow or a longer run, haven’t yet decided.

@tinks3110 that race sounds like loads of fun!! Where abouts is it?
good luck for your run.

I’m heading out shortly for a run. It’s 31 degrees here right now but just going to try and stay in zone 2 and have a plod. I’ll jump straight in the pool after!!

tinks3110 · 10/07/2025 16:50

They do them all over but I’m doing the one in Halifax. https://www.thedropuk.co.uk/ Here’s the link.

I’ll be plodding too! Good luck x

Looks like fun. There are a couple close enough for me to do in feb or April. Unfortunately Bristol and bath which would be my closest ones are on weekends that I can’t do. I might sign up for either the Bournemouth or Winchester though.

tinks3110 · 10/07/2025 17:29

@Whataninterestinglookingpotato
if you sign up for one that’s before June please let me know what it’s like!

tinks3110 · 10/07/2025 19:31

Managed 5.5 very hot mileA in just under an hour including stopping at my mums for a drink of water and a couple of headphone malfunctions 😂

hope everyone else who made it out tonight did ok

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 10/07/2025 19:37

@tinks3110 will do, I need to try and convince someone to donut with me 😂.

well done for getting out!

I did an easy 5k tonight. Nothing spectacular but it’s 31 degrees here!

Sparticle · 10/07/2025 20:45

Thanks all - I do appreciate your comments. So I made it out! Came to the prom and we have finally got some heat so obviously I can’t complain now about it being too warm to run 😆

I did a Nike run with Paula Radcliffe which was really interesting. I wanted to walk halfway (stupid mind playing tricks on me) but just slowed down instead and kept going. I chose a timed run instead of distance so I knew I’d be done by then regardless and still managed 6.2km so I’m happy with that.

Will try to get out for a run again tomorrow, then parkrun on Saturday and I want to try to do 7 miles again or even get to 8 this weekend if at all possible.

Thanks again all 👍🏻

Well done @Sparticle !

I put off going out this evening as it was hot and I am tired. I will have an early night and maybe go in the morning.

RunningInto · 10/07/2025 21:56

Yah well done @Sparticle i hope you feel better for it now.

Gosh doing 5k in 31c is tough going @Whataninterestinglookingpotato i find that too hot to walk in. We waited until 7-8pm to walk the dog as it was 27c but found a shady trees walk.

This morning i did a short Seaswim before 7am and then a mixed terrain 5k after which warmed me up nicely. It was already 22c when I finished.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 11/07/2025 08:17

@RunningInto running in 31 degrees was surprisingly fine. I just took it steady and drank a load of electrolytes.

well done for getting out @Sparticle

debating whether track tonight is a good idea or a terrible one. A lot of people who usually go seem to have gone out early this morning instead, but that’s not how I roll 😂.

I think I will drag my arse out of bed for park run tomorrow though.

Sparticle · 11/07/2025 09:26

Got out for 30 mins this morning - thought I might as well given I’m enthusiastic again!

Wondering whether it’ll be too warm for parkrun tomorrow but I’ll decide in the morning. I mean if I take it steady and not aim for a PB that should be fine?

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 11/07/2025 09:39

That’s the theory I’m going with @Sparticle it should be ok for park run at 9am tomorrow. I just won’t push too hard, she says, knowing that once there I’ll probably go flat out 😂.

Morning, did parkrun with DS16 and it was his first time - he was great and finished in 91st. No idea where I finished. Hundreds of people doing it and it was far too hot for me (yes I know, Sparticle goes on about the weather again 🤣) so although my first 2 kms were at a fantastic pace, I ended up shuffling along in the sun at the end!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 12/07/2025 10:39

@Sparticle well done for making it to parkrun today!!

it was bloody hot already at 9am this morning!! But I dragged myself up in time for parkrun and there was a good turn out of around 230 despite the heat.

i was caught off guard again at the start and had to start running before I’d started my watch or my music so I was fiddling about with them as I ran up the hill at the start! I really need to pay more attention to what’s going on!! Story of my life 😂.

despite the iffy start and the heat I ended up with a course PB, almost a minute faster than my last parkrun! 39th over all 4th female and 1st in my category. So pretty happy with that!

stay safe everyone running in the hot weather!

tinks3110 · 12/07/2025 12:50

Me and my daughter have done the colour run this morning for overgate hospice. Started at 11 and was very warm with no shade. Super proud of my daughter who doesn’t run! We had a great time

well done everyone who’s been out today

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 12/07/2025 13:17

That must have been hot at 11am @tinks3110 well done! It was roasting even at 9am here.

RunningInto · 12/07/2025 16:55

Got out at 6.30am for what I’d hoped would be a cooler run but geez it was hot already so shortened my planned 10k to 7k. And went & had a seaswim instead which was lush. Hope this breaks soon as my youngest DD really doesn’t handle the heat.

BogRollBOGOF · 12/07/2025 18:59

A relatively fast parkrun for me despite the heat. It was quieter than usual, so an easier field for me to get into my stride on. I set my watch on HR and ignored pace.

I overtook DH for a while, but he did end up finishing 10s ahead of me.

I tend to run daytime and he runs pre-work so I'm more used to heat than him.

RunningInto · 14/07/2025 19:24

Had a split run this morning first 4k trail with the dog then dropped her home and did 5k on the beach. Had hoped to swim but such a change in seascape with strong wind and waves so passed today. It’s still warm but a lot cooler with windy weather today, then I had a lovely massage after work with a lady I see monthly. She definitely keeps me going.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 14/07/2025 20:48

@RunningInto that sounds lovely. Always jealous of people who can run to the beach. I haven’t had a massage for years but one does sound quite tempting and very relaxing!!

I was a bit twitchy today as didn’t do a long run over the weekend. Only park run on Saturday. So I went out and did 9km after work today. Followed by ballet.

I’ve realised something though tonight. My heart rate was often reading higher than I thought it should compared to how I feel. Then I realised it’s because my watch bounces around on my wrist. I literally can’t get it any tighter, it’s on the last hole, I just have very puny wrists. I shoved it further up my arm tonight and my heart rate barely went above 150! Well, until the end when I pushed a bit harder. So there we go. Probably should buy a smaller strap.

RunningInto · 14/07/2025 21:21

Well done on your run @Whataninterestinglookingpotato can you make another hole in your watch strap?

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 14/07/2025 21:32

@RunningInto i might try but I’m a bit scared I’ll mess it up!! 😂

tinks3110 · 15/07/2025 06:16

Morning all, I am out with run club tonight probably do about 4 miles and I’m hopefully not the leader tonight so can run at my own pace. It’s still warm here but we are forecast rain later so hopefully that cools it down a bit

My sports massage last week was not relaxing; bad combination of hormones and an unusually stressful week making for some really tender knots. I always feel better for it a few days later, but it often leaves me spending the rest of the day like I've done a demanding workout.

I must be a bit sado-masochistic; I enjoy it when I go to a spa and they ask "how much pressure do you like" and I say I'm used to a firm sports massage Grin

I really don't like light, tickly touch. It gets me in defense mode Blush
