Hi all, just setting up a second thread - I hope you don’t mind @Jumbojem but the other one was getting a bit close to ending…

Sorry to keep harping on about the weather but it’s still raining up here so instead of running this morning I’m going to get back on my lovely water rowing machine which I’ve neglected totally since starting running back in Jan/Feb. I miss it (and I miss the muscle toning it gave me) so I’m going to get back on this morning for a change.

Might do parkrun tomorrow or a longer run, haven’t yet decided.

Thanks for all the good wishes. My run went as I'd hoped - I finished half an hour faster than last year over the same course, and felt that I finished stronger this year (I walked quite a lot of the last 5k last year, this year I kept up the run/walking all the way).

We had a complete downpour for the first hour or so, which made the going quite tough on the trails - the top layer of dusty soil turned into slippery mud. There was then a pleasantly cool and breezy couple of hours and then it got really hot and muggy before more showers.

My feet are remarkably fine despite being wet for many hours. But I have awful chafing under both my arms, I think because my teeshirt and running backpack were both wet and rubbing more than usual. Sudocrem to the rescue!

I did say to DH last night that I'm not going to do any more long runs like these, as the training is so gruelling and because I'm slow it takes up a lot of time. So if you see me talking about anything more than a HM please feel free to give me a good ticking off :-)

I am quite stiff this morning, so will just be gently walking for the next few days.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 20/07/2025 08:30

Well done @OhOneOhTwoOhThree amazing achievement. You’ve definitely earned some rest days!!

off for a long (probably around 10 miles) slowish trail run with my dog after I’ve dropped dd2 to work. Just hope it doesn’t pour down!

NormaMajors1992coat · 20/07/2025 08:54

Half an hour faster is incredible @OhOneOhTwoOhThree 👏👏

Another little trundle around the streets for me this morning, week 11/2 of C210K, 15R-2W-15R-3W-15R. Took it very very slowly as I had tried and failed with this one earlier in the week, but managed it ok today. Onwards and upwards 💪

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 20/07/2025 08:58

Great work @NormaMajors1992coat . Sounds like you did really well today.

Fizbosshoes · 20/07/2025 09:12

Amazing @OhOneOhTwoOhThree 50k is going to be tough without all the weather you encountered, well done, esp for the pb!!

I'm sure most marathoners (and probably ultra marathoners) say never again at some point but most of us go back for more , by Wednesday I reckon you'll wonder about giving it another go! 😃

I'm meeting friends soon for a 90 min run, I would have dreaded it on my own, it's pelting down but it makes so much difference running with others

Hahahaha @Fizbosshoes . DH has predicted that I will announce in January that I have signed up for another ultra, which requires a marathon as part of the training plan.

I have my eye on an autumn trail half, which also has a full marathon option - last week I was wondering if I could maintain my long distance fitness until then. Today I am deffo only in HM mindset, if indeed I register for anything at all.

tinks3110 · 20/07/2025 12:36

afternoon all,
well done @OhOneOhTwoOhThree thats fabulous

I had my 10k race along the canal this morning which I did not realise included running up Bingley 5 rise locks 🤣🤣

I stopped at the water station briefly and wish I hadn’t as my official time was 1.00.05 😭😭 so gutted to miss out on under an hour oh well there’s always next time!

Jumbojem · 20/07/2025 15:08

@OhOneOhTwoOhThree congratulations on the ultra, and beating last years time. Feels so good to finish strong!
@tinks3110 congratulations to you too, gutting about the time but at least you know the sub hour is there for the taking next time.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 20/07/2025 15:43

well done @NormaMajors1992coat on getting through the next stage of c2 10k! Great achievement.

well done on you race today @tinks3110 you'll easily get under an hour next time!

hope you enjoyed your long run @Fizbosshoes

im back form my muddy 11.5 mile trail run. The dog was flagging a bit by the end! It was a lovely route, apart from getting a bit lost and having to run through 3 fields with cows in! Parts of the trail were well trodden and parts a bit overgrown. Some bits I’ve run loads of times and some places I’d never been before. So that was fun!!

i do love going out just me and the dog. I was invited on a 10 mile run with the running club early but as nice as it would have been I sacked it off to take my 4 legged buddy.

RunningInto · 20/07/2025 18:32

@OhOneOhTwoOhThree thats brilliant well done and hope the legs ease up over the week.

well done @tinks3110 great time even with the seconds faster than I’ll ever get to.

RunningInto · 20/07/2025 18:34

Sorry missed your trail run @Whataninterestinglookingpotato wow bet doggy was tired sounds fun though.

tinks3110 · 20/07/2025 19:21

@RunningInto
it’s the fastest I’ve ever run 10k anyway so I should be happy.
i also got a lovely photo from the race photographer where I am smiling and look pretty athletic so all in all a good day

RunningInto · 20/07/2025 20:49

Just wow this lady two hours ahead of the next competitor www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/crmv9y2k3lno

xsquared · 21/07/2025 11:57

Well done @OhOneOhTwoOhThree on your ultra. A 3 minute pb from last year is absolutely amazing. In fact, doing an ultra on its own is real achievement I itself!

Well done @tinks3110 on your race too. The sub 1 hour is close. Onwards and upwards!

SoapCollector · 21/07/2025 15:33

Well done @OhOneOhTwoOhThree on your ultra race and half an hour faster too - that's an amazing achievement.

I finally got out for a 5k jog today after a super wet weekend here. When I checked my Garmin records it was two weeks since my last run! Felt a bit strange running today until I settled into it. I'm finding all the posts on here so inspiring ❤️

RunningInto · 21/07/2025 16:08

Cross training this morning after early dog walk helped my eldest by navigating her way on a new driving route to the nearest city - she only passed her test a few weeks ago - then left her at her training course and pulled my bike out the back of the car & cycled the 12m home dodging the showers. Was too far for me to comfortably run home in the time I had available. Il try get a run in again tomorrow before work instead. Hopefully she’ll manage the drive home now on her own tonight.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 23/07/2025 20:30

Well done @tinks3110 - both on the time and a good photo - they are so rare!

Glad you enjoyed your muddy run with your dog @Whataninterestinglookingpotato

Great work @SoapCollector !

@RunningInto I like your style. Nothing like an opportunity for cross training. My bike will just about fit in our car but it's a squeeze so I don't do it very often. Hope DD managed the drive home OK.

We are on holiday now so I've done lots of walking and a bit of swimming/floating along with the tide. Running-wise I had a gentle 5K yesterday which felt OK so am hoping to go a bit further tomorrow.

RunningInto · 23/07/2025 20:36

Yes she made it home ok @OhOneOhTwoOhThree and has done the drive herself now as there every day this week.

Strength training today weights with yoga stretch after. Plan to run tomorrow morn will see how the hip is but would like to do 7-10k if feeling ok.

NormaMajors1992coat · 24/07/2025 10:35

I am under the doctor at the mo with strict instructions to take it easy, so just a gentle 3k for me this morning. More tests on Wednesday and hopefully the all clear to continue C210K 🤞

It’s such a lovely morning here, felt great to be out running and every song from the playlist shuffle was a banger.

RunningInto · 24/07/2025 11:48

Hope you get the all clear soon @NormaMajors1992coat well done on getting out.

Didn’t sleep well so no bouncing out the bed this morning at 6.30am more a sluggish get this done. Still I had a relaxed early hilly 5k trail and then a lovely float in the sea to ice my joints off after. Nice to get it ticked off mentally though before the heat built up as it’s a lovely warm sunny day here. Happy running it’s nearly Friday whoop

SoapCollector · 24/07/2025 13:35

Hope you feel better soon @NormaMajors1992coat well done for getting out there.

@RunningInto well done on the hilly 5k. I'm still struggling along on the flat for a 5k! Can't wait for the day when I use hilly run and relaxed in the same sentence! 🥵 Your float in the sea sounds lovely.

I went out yesterday and jogged a very flat 5k. I needed a couple of walk breaks towards the end, felt a bit low on energy. I've signed up for another 10k at the end of the year, something to aim towards!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 24/07/2025 14:12

I hope you’re feeling better and get the all clear from the doctor soon @NormaMajors1992coat

Well done on getting out early @RunningInto the trail run and sea swim sound lovely.

@SoapCollector it really does get easier the more you do. Hills can always see hard (depends how steep they are), but not as hard as they once were and your recovery gets quicker and quicker.

this week so far has been 7.5 mile club run Tuesday. Yoga and legs bums and tums class yesterday. Today I did some yoga before work and I’m planning on hill repeats with the running club tonight. theres also some sort of track event cup thing with the club tomorrow that I’ll go to.

I keep looking at more races. There’s a half next weekend locally that still has places, so I may do that. Or I’ve seen a localish road marathon in October, which I think I could be ready for in time, but I’m still not sure. We shall see. If I did the half it would mean 2 10ks and a half race in the same week. Would that be too much? It’s not so much the distance as I would run similar anyway, but obviously I put much more effort in when racing!!

RunningInto · 24/07/2025 14:44

@SoapCollector 5k is not easy it just becomes a bit more comfortable I walked a short steep section to regulate my heart rate & wasn’t bothered by my speed. It took me a good 6months this time doing C25k to run 5k on flat concrete nonstop and a year to do trail. Everyone is different but running 3x a week plus strength stuff x2 a week plus walking daily works for me.

Gosh you have a lot going on @Whataninterestinglookingpotato hope you enjoy your races.

SoapCollector · 24/07/2025 19:06

@Whataninterestinglookingpotato and @RunningInto thanks for the advice and kind words. Maybe I need to chill out a bit and enjoy what I can do now compared to when I started in April! I've been to the gym today for a weights session to help support my running - hopefully!

@RunningInto do you do weights and run on the same day or different days? If you have time would you maybe be able to list your training/ day plan? At the moment I'm running 3 x a week, usually Tues, Thurs and Saturday, walk most days, and need to fit in strength work too. I think I would find it difficult to run the day after a leg weights session!
