Hi all, just setting up a second thread - I hope you don’t mind @Jumbojem but the other one was getting a bit close to ending…

Sorry to keep harping on about the weather but it’s still raining up here so instead of running this morning I’m going to get back on my lovely water rowing machine which I’ve neglected totally since starting running back in Jan/Feb. I miss it (and I miss the muscle toning it gave me) so I’m going to get back on this morning for a change.

Might do parkrun tomorrow or a longer run, haven’t yet decided.

I did it!!!

I spent yesterday doubting myself, thinking I was underprepared, not ready, being silly thinking I could do it.

But on course, it was fine, mentally I was really strong. Never once thought I couldn't do it or that it was too hard. And it was hard. Nearly 900m (3000ft) of elevation. Strava merrily informed me 4 x my usual monthly total 🤣

I did it in my rough time I wanted (12 mins over, but im happy with that)

Tired now though. Sent husband home with the kids, im having a well deserved 2nd night in the hotel, kid Free. I think ill sleep.

@Whataninterestinglookingpotato I use voom bars too. I really rate them. Easy to eat.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 08/03/2026 18:06

Well done @SFRSmum amazing achievement!! That was a lot of elevation!!

glad to hear you get on well with voom bars. I think I’m going to order some more.

a little hungover 5k trail plod for me with the dog this afternoon. Better than nothing and a few more miles added to my weekly total.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 08/03/2026 19:41

Great work @SFRSmum! That's a massive elevation - I thought my 884 feet of elevation today was going some but you have put me in the shade Smile

I had a steady 17 miles trying out part of a 20 mile road run I'm doing in 3 weeks - mainly to test if I was likely to meet the cut off. I had a couple of foggy and hilly outings during the week while visiting family in Yorkshire - 4 miles of trail and 6 miles of hills in a big park. I was shattered yesterday and didn't manage parkrun - I cycled there, arrived after the start, walked a couple of miles and had coffee with friends.

Have a good week everyone and hope your recovery goes well @SFRSmum!

SFRSmum · 13/03/2026 08:26

How has this week gone for everyone?

Ive had a chilled recovery Week, monday i did a 3 mile walk, tuesday rested, Wednesday I swam a mile, slowly, and yesterday I my first run, a progressive run of 7k but kept it easy.

Got a 5k fun run tonight at the kelpies in the dark, looking forward to that as its stunning lit up in the dark and doing it with my DD and friend.
Then doing a social run on sunday, 10k is what is planned.

Ive got a half next weekend, but no big aspirations time wise for it.

My next big run is a backyard ultra in may which Im actually really looking forward to. You only have to do 1 lap to get a medal so its super inclusive.

Hope everyone has a good weekend running

Fizbosshoes · 13/03/2026 08:48

Just checking in for first time in ages. Amazing @SFRSmum, my quads and glutes are crying just thinking about that elevation!

I did the complete opposite and did a pancake flat half at the weekend. Strava says i got my target time but unfortunately the race results are just over, but I was really happy with it.
Struggling to understand how they worked out the start pens, psychologically it was good for me as I was overtaking the entire way, but there were some narrow sections where I felt a bit boxed in.
So ive had a pretty easy week bimbling along on a few easy runs listening to podcasts.
Last cross country race of the season tomorrow, I foolishly started getting optimistic it would be "not too bad" as weve had some dry weather. Then it absolutely pelted down all night!

RunningInto · 13/03/2026 12:55

Had a week off as away skiing and got two short runs in this week but now knocked out with a d/v virus so that’s no parkrun now as I’d hoped to go whilst on my ski fit bounce. Day in bed hohum. Hope to be back out next week but the bug means I’ve lost my garmin streak again I was at 230days+
Hope everyone has happy running this weekend.

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 13/03/2026 13:30

Going to be a park run tourist tomorrow with my run club. Three car loads of us off on an adventure. It sort of feels like going on a school trip.

tinks3110 · 13/03/2026 13:44

👋hi all, I have been awol for a while. Still managing to keep up with my 10 mile training plan which is a week on Sunday. Even managed to get in 2 runs whilst I was on holiday in Egypt last week, although I don’t ever want to repeat the tempo run in the red hot gym I had to do!
I have randomly signed up for a trail half 3 weeks after my 10 mile and wondering what the hell I have done 😂

xsquared · 13/03/2026 13:44

Amazing achievement and impressive amount of elevation. @SFRSmum

I am supposed to be training for Edinburgh marathon which is in 11 week ish time.

I keep wondering whether I'm doing enough at this stage, and really hating my runs atthe moment as they're all in the wind!

Did 26km earlier on including a few faster efforts on the track, but I need to do some solid longer intervals or run a significant distance at target pace.

tinks3110 · 13/03/2026 16:47

@xsquared
i need to find a good training plan for my October marathon. I am scared already 😳

Jumbojem · 13/03/2026 18:37

Well done @SFRSmum !
Good luck for anyone with events this weekend.

I've had an ok week of running, started the week very tired and knees a bit stiff. I only did 9 miles Sunday and my half is next weekend! Although those 9 miles were at the end of my biggest mileage week in an age. Thoughts with those of you training for marathons, makes my little runs seem like nothing. My friend is doing next week's half as a training run for Newport mara, and I'm enjoying following her training, but not having to do it myself!

I always feel FOMO when I go and watch my team mates and training buddies do the London Marathon.....but funnily enough im never that sad when we run together in the cold or rain, and im stopping at 10 or 12 miles and theyre doing 18!🤣
Ive enjoyed doing half marathons the last 2 years, the training feels bearable and I feel I can keep mental strength throughout the race. But I havent quite put to bed the idea of doing another marathon!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 13/03/2026 21:00

Good luck to anyone racing this weekend and we’ll don’t to everyone for getting out there!

@xsquared i feel the same. I’m doing Newport in just over 5 weeks and I rarely hit my weekly targets. I just have to remind myself that I’m actually doing slightly more than last time and that went well. No point stressing because I’m simply not prepared to put my life entirely on hold for it. I’m away this weekend so I will not be doing the 3 hour run garmin wants me to do. I’ll probably do an hour or so 😂. I’ll get a 20 miler in next weekend

I have been trying to get more miles in at race pace even though I’m not going as far. I missed track tonight because of life stuff so went and did my own intervals. 9 miles fairly fast last night in howling wind and pouring rain, thought I’d better as I won’t run much at the weekend.

@tinks3110 training for an October marathon through the summer is much nicer than training for a spring marathon through the winter. Autumn marathons all the way from now on! 😂.

i hope you feel better soon @RunningInto

xsquared · 13/03/2026 22:06

Is it your first marathon @tinks3110 ? There's plenty of free versions around on the internet., although some events have started charging for a plan this year.

It looks like you're running strong and disciplined already @Whataninterestinglookingpotato . I rarely make it to club night at the moment, but I do end up doing my own made up intervals, ignoring my plan as I can't bear another fast session in the wind. 😆

tinks3110 · 13/03/2026 22:48

@xsquared yes
it will be my first and probably only marathon. I think i’ll be ok but the thought of it is freaking me
out.

BogRollBOGOF · 14/03/2026 11:10

I've had a good week of running. Missed long run Sunday due to other commitments but I've been in taper mode anyway. Managed 2 mid-week earlies and just jeffed a gentle parkrun.

10k race tomorrow.

Target is sub 60 but I'm not holding my breath. I've done a lot of 31min parkruns recently although they're on a tougher course and congestion can be an issue. I've covered 10k a lot so that's not an issue, but it's just felt a niggly, glitchy winter with not many feel-good runs where I've felt that I've run at my potential.

My best training run was about a month ago when I jeffed the first 2.5k, ran the mid-5k at threshold, and jeffed the last 2.5k.

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 14/03/2026 13:43

Lovely sunny parkrun this morning. Chilly and no wind. I was a parkrun tourist and set a new PB of 30.08 mins. Close to breaking the 30 minute barrier but no cigar and not too bad for someone who completed C25K last November.

SFRSmum · 14/03/2026 14:23

@xsquared im running Edinburgh marathon too! Im not aiming for a fast time though, just looking to have a fun day out and enjoy the views.

Im really working on distance now, not sure if ive said on here before, sorry if I have, but ive really taken a liking to ultras, im running the wall in june and run the borders in august. I enjoy and organised event and, let's face it, a medal! So I still like to have shorter runs un my calander keep things different, but not aiming for speed improvements.

Kelpies supernova last night was amazing! I ran it with my friend and daughter so it was much slower than I would usually run, but so much fun!

SFRSmum · 14/03/2026 14:24

@xsquared Hahaha actually, no im not, im running the half 🤣🤣

Fizbosshoes · 14/03/2026 20:23

Did a lovely cross country race today, perfect weather and a lot less muddy than a month ago.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 14/03/2026 22:24

Well done runners!

@SFRSmum sounds like you've recovered really well - you must be super-fit! DH and I did the Edinburgh marathon a few years ago - I did the full and he did the half. he really enjoyed it and said it was all downhill Smile

Well done on your x-country and HM @Fizbosshoes

Excellent park running @TheSlimmingPumpkin !

Good luck tomorrow @BogRollBOGOF

@tinks3110 well done for keeping up the running on holiday! No need to be scared, it's just a couple of 10 mile runs and a 10K Smile . I like a 20 week training plan - firstly it starts off really gently, and secondly there's room to miss a few runs e.g. if you are on holiday or unwell.

Get well soon @RunningInto

@xsquared and @Whataninterestinglookingpotato sounds like you are working hard especially in wind and rain.

@Jumbojem great work!

I've had a decent week - 4 miles on Tuesday, a lake swim on Thursday, 6 miles yesterday, parkrun and some extra miles this morning and a nice cycle ride.

18 hilly miles tomorrow - a repeat of some of last week's long run with an extra bit thrown in for good measure. It's prep for a 20 mile race in 2 weeks time. The race "prize" is a hoodie which is much sought after in local running circles - hoping it will be nice colour (it changes every year, some are nicer than others).

TyneFilth · 14/03/2026 22:49

I've had an off week - came down with sniffles on Monday and was bad enough that I logged off work (WFH) and took a three hour nap on Wednesday! HM in two weeks so it's not ideal, I did absolutely nothing for 5 days until a mini strength session this morning. Long run tomorrow will be at very much z2 pace so it will be interesting to see what that looks like in the garmin stats. My coach's plan for me says 6k easy, 4k at 6:30, 6k easy. If I feel good I might add a bit more in to take it closer to the 18k I didn't do last weekend. All in all, not an ideal "training block" but I am hoping to still have the base fitness to match or beat my time from the exact same race 20 years ago, which was 2h13...

Are we going to need a new thread soon...??

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 15/03/2026 18:25

Sorry to hear you are under the weather @TyneFilth - hope your run went well today.

18 hilly miles for me - 996 feet of elevation all told. I am feeling better now about making the cut off for the actual race. I was quite cold by the time I got home, but a nice bath, some food and a granny nap has sorted me out. I won't be moving very far this evening Smile

Happy Mothering Sunday to all those celebrating.

BogRollBOGOF · 15/03/2026 21:56

I did it! 59:30Grin

It's actually a course-slowest for me, but my goal was fairly realistic for recent form.

Hopefully now we're past winter I can get my consistency and pace back up again.

SFRSmum · 16/03/2026 07:24

Well done @BogRollBOGOF did you run the whole 10k?

@OhOneOhTwoOhThree good job on the 18 miles! I too get cold quickly after a run, I mostly end up huddled under blankets on the sofa, your afternoon sounds like bliss!
