Hi all, just setting up a second thread - I hope you don’t mind @Jumbojem but the other one was getting a bit close to ending…

Sorry to keep harping on about the weather but it’s still raining up here so instead of running this morning I’m going to get back on my lovely water rowing machine which I’ve neglected totally since starting running back in Jan/Feb. I miss it (and I miss the muscle toning it gave me) so I’m going to get back on this morning for a change.

Might do parkrun tomorrow or a longer run, haven’t yet decided.

@Mysterian if it's any consolation I fell over in my race last week!

I've had a really easy recovery week, just one run on Thursday, and probably about 5 miles of walking on Wednesday. I was volunteering at parkrun today but hope to do one of my favourite routes Tomorrow, it includes lots of trail and a path passes some allotments, this time of year, it's nice to see what flowers and vegetables are growing. In the winter some of the paths are insanely boggy but I often persist with half running/half walking anyway, but obviously that won't be an issue tomorrow

BogRollBOGOF · 05/07/2025 23:50

I'm at a triathlon tomorrow... alas not for me, it's DS doing a junior event.

I like the idea of doing one though.

Cycling is my weak link. I've never got the hang of changing gears!

I learned to swim at 16... cycle at 19... and run in my 30s 😂

tinks3110 · 06/07/2025 11:29

I am back from Morley 5k . It was very hilly 🙈 but I managed my fastest time in over a year and under 30 mins. 28.31. Am feeling a bit more confident now and looking forward to my 10k in a couple of weeks.

oh and there was race bling as well!!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 06/07/2025 11:37

Well done @tinks3110 !! That’s a fancy medal!!

just heading off to the coast with the dog for our coastal path run. Happy Sunday all.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 06/07/2025 15:04

Welcome @TyneFilth and well done @SoapCollector - great work!

Super bling @tinks3110 and a great time as well.

I hope mini- @BogRollBOGOF did well at their triathlon today.

@Whataninterestinglookingpotato and @Fizbosshoes hope your runs were drier than mine. I had to go back to the house for my rain jacket as what looked like drizzle from inside turned out to be heavy rain once I got out into it. The trails were quite slippery and the nettles seemed to be sprouting higher with every drop of rain. 11 miles in the bag. Hard to believe that I cut short my run last week because it was too hot - today I was soaked to my skin!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 06/07/2025 15:25

Oh no! @OhOneOhTwoOhThree that’s annoying!! Well done for stick at it through the rain.

it stayed dry here for my coastal path run. Sitting down by the harbour at west bay as we speak having just enjoyed an ice cream and a doggy ice cream for my running buddy. Ended up doing 10 miles in the end, west bay to the other side of golden cap and back. As I came down the far side of golden cap there were cows all over the path and I decided we’d been far enough as they had calves and I had the dog with me. Still 10 miles and 753m of elevation gain isn’t bad.

BogRollBOGOF · 06/07/2025 15:51

Mini-Bogroll really enjoyed it, despite a soggy start- our first substantial rain in ages! It dried up just in time for emerging from the pool so he did dry off while cycling and running.

Fizbosshoes · 06/07/2025 16:14

Loved my run this morning, it was overcast and about 18° with a breeze, perfect conditions. There were a few spots of rain but quite refreshing rather than unpleasant. I did just over 10k at a relaxed pace. It's pelted down since then, though. (I had some new nice lightweight shorts that I accidentally ended up buying in TK maxx while looking for things for DH! 🤣)

We're about an hour away from Silverstone and comparing the timings of the downpours there v at home!

Mysterian · 06/07/2025 18:28

@tinks3110 Nice medal. Now I want shiny things!

Mysterian · 06/07/2025 18:28

@tinks3110 Nice medal. Now I want shiny things!

I only run races for the bling tbh 🤣 if there’s no medal I won’t bother

BogRollBOGOF · 07/07/2025 16:19

My last race has really jumped in price in recent years. I know I did late entry but it was £45 and no t-shirt included!
It's not a prestigious event either.

It was about £28 around 2018/19 ish. That's a big proportion of difference!

BogRollBOGOF · 07/07/2025 16:20

Goodie bags aren't what they were either.

RunningInto · 07/07/2025 16:52

Those interested in triathlon do look at trying a “Go-Tri” I did a few of these with my eldest DD doing the kids ones, before I did a sprint Tri. They are a great way to try it out most events take 45-60mins as the distances are shorter but it’s still surprisingly hard work. Lots of folk did breaststroke in the pool too so don’t put not being able to do FC off giving it a try. I actually borrowed DH small racing bike but didn’t clip in as wasn’t confident I’d not ridden it before 🤣was fun.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 07/07/2025 17:28

@BogRollBOGOF i find the prices of races really vary.

I’ve paid £50 for Bristol to bath in September but only £35 for ham to Lyme ultra next year. Of the two 10ks I have booked in August one was £15 and the other nearly £30! Doesn’t always reflect how good the medal or goody bag are either! 😂. I think I need to take out another mortgage for all the things I’m entering!

NormaMajors1992coat · 09/07/2025 08:33

Week 11/1 of C210K and an early morning trundle around the streets, 5x 12 minute runs with increasing walk breaks of 1, 2, 3, 4 mins. I have been putting it off because week 10/3 was great and I was sure I wouldn’t manage this one, but it was fine. New distance PB of 7.67km and I knocked another 2.48 off my time for the first 5k, now under 45mins which was my goal. I checked my local parkrun and this would put me 0.02 behind our local ex MP who is 81 🤨. He is an absolute dickhead who had to pay back £20k of expenses so if I ever get around to parkrun and he’s there I will be desperate to beat him 😂

Sparticle · 09/07/2025 09:13

Morning all, I haven’t run for a week so will try to get out tonight after work. The weather finally ground me into a low mood and I have got bored with my regular running routes. Need to get back into it though otherwise one week will turn into two, then a month and then all my hard work will be for nothing. Considering not doing the 10 mile at the end of Aug as I haven’t really been training for it but I’ll probably be annoyed with myself.

tinks3110 · 09/07/2025 09:18

Morning,

maybe just see how you go @Sparticle hope you have a good run today. I’m considering a 10 mile later in the year.

I went out and did 5k yesterday, my legs were very heavy after race on Sunday, class I went to on Monday was leg heavy and strength class yesterday morning was deadlift 😭

I would like to get out for a 5-6 mile tomorrow evening but will have to see how I feel and what the weather is like

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 09/07/2025 10:07

@NormaMajors1992coat beating your ex local MP sounds like an excellent park run goal!!

@Sparticle i hope you have a good run later. See how you feel over the next couple of weeks about the race in August. The weather can really get you! Hope that it’s a bit nicer now where you are. Maybe try and look at some different routes and see if they inspire you.

@tinks3110 well done on your run yesterday. Well done on the strength training too. I need to stop neglecting it and get my arse to the gym!!

I went out with the running group last night and did the memorial bench run (groups start at different points and run to the memorial bench where there is a minutes silence and a few words to remember member who have passed away). It was a nice thing to do and nice to meet up with all the other pace groups. I didn’t feel as energetic as usual after Sundays coastal path run. I was aching way more after that than the road half the week before! But got a good 8 miles in with a mix of road and trail.

might go to the summer series 5k race tonight or I might not. We shall see. Have a good day all.

RunningInto · 09/07/2025 13:31

@NormaMajors1992coat that made me giggle and I like your motivation to beat him at parkrun. Well done on the 7.5k run that’s a good distance.
@Sparticle i always feel like that in the summer as don’t like running above 10c normally. Sometimes I trick myself with I’ll just put on my run kit & go for a walk plus a new playlist and everytime after 5mins I want to run. Hope your mojo comes back, I tend to cycle & walk more in summer anyway so fitness ticks over.

I did a 5k trail run and strength training in the same day as DD wanted to go to the gym but my legs were heavy yesterday because of it. Just did a 6k walk with dog instead plus some yoga to stretch out. Looks like it’s going to be a hot weekend so May plan a bike ride instead of a run.

Sparticle · 09/07/2025 14:05

Thanks all. @RunningIntowe haven’t had any heat up here apart from the odd day for a month or two - it’s been the rain and wind and general crap weather that has depressed me 😅

Will aim to get out later after dropping DD at Guides, if only so I can report back to you lot ☺️

OP posts:
BogRollBOGOF · 09/07/2025 15:56

I'm in the hot zone. It was actually nice to have rain at the weekend and the plants are looking less parched this week.

I ran early today as it was a speed session. I'm following a short, low milage plan to get a bit of speedwork back into my life without the stress of long runs. Plus a break from fitting in long runs when it's hot.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 09/07/2025 22:36

I should have run yesterday but had the option of a lovely outdoor swim so took that instead, and had a short run this morning before work.

Did you get out @Sparticle ?

@RunningInto I did something similar last year with a tri taster for families. I turned out to be the only adult doing it with a load of children. My own (young adult) child came along with a friend to support me :-)

Sparticle · 09/07/2025 22:47

Well I sat on my bed about to get changed to get out and then got annoyed with myself and then didn’t get out but did some non-urgent life admin instead to make myself feel vaguely productive.

I don’t know why I self-sabotage like this, knowing that actually I’m going to feel worse for not doing something but then still not doing it. The brain is odd isn’t it?!

OP posts:
Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 10/07/2025 07:59

@Sparticle the brain is an odd thing. I used to literally have to force myself out the door just telling myself I’ll go really slowly and just do a short plod. I’d always feel better once out and would usually go much further and faster than I told myself! Im
better these days and usually want to go, but it’s been a process to get to this point.

I didn’t go to the 5k summer races last night as dd1 was still home and I said I’d make her tea before she left to go back to uni. After she had gone I jogged to the gym (it’s literally 1km away) did a good strength session and then ran back home at a faster pace. Glad I got some strength training in as I was beginning to be able to feel it in my knees that I hadnt done any for a while!

tinks3110 · 10/07/2025 16:25

I am dreading going out later, it’s 27 degrees. Got to go about 6. But I really have to as worried about my 10k race on 20th July. 😂😭. Am well hydrated but I can see it turning in to a run/walk. i will update later

I have also signed up today for a run in June 2026 called the drop. You get on a bus blindfolded and they take you to the start and then you have to find your way 10 miles back to the start with no map, phone or gps 😂😂 I might over get back 😂
