Hi all, just setting up a second thread - I hope you don’t mind @Jumbojem but the other one was getting a bit close to ending…

Sorry to keep harping on about the weather but it’s still raining up here so instead of running this morning I’m going to get back on my lovely water rowing machine which I’ve neglected totally since starting running back in Jan/Feb. I miss it (and I miss the muscle toning it gave me) so I’m going to get back on this morning for a change.

Might do parkrun tomorrow or a longer run, haven’t yet decided.

Hello all, I haven’t run as much this week. Did 4 miles to pick my car from the garage on Monday afternoon and then just been out after work and managed 10k. Did a
circuits class this morning so my legs weren’t best pleased 😂
this weekend I’m off to wales to climb Snowden with the gym girls so there will
be no running!

Jumbojem · 07/10/2025 22:18

Hello all, some great times posted, and welcome newcomers.
@BogRollBOGOF how annoying they put your DH ahead when you know he was behind! That would bother me more than the time or anything else. Although having done timing once at parkrun I said never again as it was so stressful trying to get it right, that people wouldn't be happy if times were wrong.

I am plodding along, quite literally, with running but hips have not been happy since Bristol to Bath so have cut my mileage right down and trying to up the yoga for a bit. First XC event this weekend, a hilly muddy one!

I've done timing a number of times at 5k. It takes concentration! The hardest bit is the people that can't work out how/ if they're going to enter the funnel and are risking a pile-up. We often have to use a double-funnel.
I think in this case as DH's data matched up, it was some tokens that were out of order after the last run.

It's token errors (and funnel duckers) that tend to give RDs/ results processes stress. Generally time glitches are easier to unravel with block fixes, and easier to identify where they went wrong.

My worst results processing session was dropped tokens and then tokens being given out in reverse order. Fortunately it was at a small run!

No mid-week running here; the lurgy has got me so I'm in energy conservation mode to help recover.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 10/10/2025 18:21

Thanks @TyneFilth I’ll take a look. One after Christmas may be doable.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 12/10/2025 17:08

thats my first marathon done!! Strava time of 3:28:05 though this is likely to go up by about 30 seconds for the official time when it’s released as I had to wait to cross a road at one point. But all in all very happy!!

Hope that everyone has had a good weekend.

Wow! That is an amazing time! Very well done.

You have very likely qualified for London Good For Age and probably other World Majors as well, if you want to do that.

I've just been out for a 12k plod ha ung had a tiring weekend of travel.

RunningInto · 12/10/2025 19:40

Wow that’s very fast @Whataninterestinglookingpotato well done. Well done on the 12k @xsquared

My 8wks of slow trail runs with the dog and strength training has really transferred to fast road running for me. Not intentional at all but did my fastest 10k today and hadn’t even planned to do 10k when I set off. Think it was the paracetamol with caffeine that give me the boost as I’m still nursing this lingering lurgy that just won’t go.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 12/10/2025 19:52

Thank you.

well done @xsquared on your 12km and @RunningInto on your fastest 10k, that’s fantastic.

xsquared · 12/10/2025 19:53

Well done on your unintentional 10k pb @Runninginto !

SFRSmum · 12/10/2025 20:48

Well done @Whataninterestinglookingpotato thats an amazing time for your first! What was the course like? Hilly or fairly flat?

Im on holiday this week, but keeping to my running plan. Did the local park run (very brave of me, i like that this running thing has me putting myself out there!) Knocked 30 seconds off my PB without really trying too so I think the training is paying off!

12k run to fit in this week at some point. I did a nice easy 8k today, good slow pace and I felt great after. Again, im shocked at how quickly my fitness is improving.

BogRollBOGOF · 14/10/2025 17:39

A decent weekend of running for me.

I did a leisurely parkrun by Jeffing and managed not to upset the dregs of my cold still fading away.

I originally planned 10k for long run and did 5mi which I'm happy enough with after a rough week. Hopefully I'll feel better for getting back on plan next weekend, and at least I'm feeling pretty human now.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 14/10/2025 21:59

Well done on your 5 miles @BogRollBOGOF

well done on your park run PB @SFRSmum the marathon course was pretty flat tbh. A couple of slopes but nothing to worry about. A good one for a PB if you’re lucky with not getting held up on road or railway crossings. I was lucky and only had to wait for 30/40 seconds to cross a road once but there was potential it could have happened more which would have been annoying.

8 mile club run for me tonight with a good bunch of folks. My legs felt surprisingly ok after Sundays efforts.

10 mile race this weekend along the sea front at Weymouth. Hoping the weather forecasts changes!

Hope everyone has a good running week!

Jumbojem · 18/10/2025 10:28

@whataninterestinglookingpotato congratulations on the marathon! I am in awe of your recovery abilities too, running 8 miles shortly after!
I did cross country last weekend, only arrived 15 mins before my race started due to a car breakdown on the way so all a bit stressful. Literally put my new never worn spikes on and went to the start with a few mins of warm up. Maybe not having time to faff suited me though as I finished about a minute ahead of last years time, ran all the hills and was cat and mouse to the finish with a team mate who consistently beat me last year. She did beat me in the end but I was much closer than last year.
Barely run this week though as my hip has been sore and work busy. Hoping to get a longer run in today but had a lie in this morning.
Any park runners today?

xsquared · 18/10/2025 11:23

Yes. I went to a new parkrun in our area. Very busy as you can imagine in the early weeks. The course was a bit like xc with its changing terrain and inclines.
Definitely not a pb course.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 18/10/2025 11:23

thank you @Jumbojem i do think I’m lucky and I recover quickly from things. Sometime I think I recover quickly because I’m younger than many of the people I run with (running is weird in that it makes you feel very young at 40!). But one of the guys I run with is 2 years younger than me and did the half version of the marathon I did, got a fantastic time for the half, but was hanging out of his arse on Tuesdays run. He was like “how are you so fine?” I couldn’t really tell him how, I just was. I’m starting to think I’m not quite normal 😂😂.

Well done on your cross country!! Sounds like fun. Hope that your hip is feeling better soon.

well done on parkrun @xsquared a new course sounds fun!!

just a 3.5 mile trail run with the dog this morning. I was to go to park run but decided to have a lie in instead. Weymouth 10 miler tomorrow and the weather look horrific! 😫. Ah well, I will just have to accept that I will be soaked and get on with it!! 😂.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 18/10/2025 13:05

Hi runners! Great work @Jumbojem and @Whataninterestinglookingpotato on your x-country and marathon achievements.

We've been on hols this week, so I did a couple of new-to-me routes, including a hilly 8 miles which I really enjoyed - my longest run in a couple of months. parkrun this morning - not particularly fast, but I did stop to walk ant talk with the tailwalker for part of the last lap. Hoping to get out again tomorrow if the weather is OK.

Hope your event goes well tomorrow @Whataninterestinglookingpotato

TyneFilth · 18/10/2025 19:03

Checking in again! Have been quiet because it's been a slow couple of weeks. Today was half marathon day (Battersea) so this week was always going to be a taper week, but the second half of last week I was a combination of tired, slight feeling that I had a latent tummy bug, and then husband and son both had a stinker of a cold that I might have got a small dose of. So basically I had a 10 day taper.

And this morning on a flat course in ideal weather conditions I pulled out a 2:14 half marathon! Which is amazing because I was aiming for just under 2.25 (my last one over ten years ago) and my best ever time is only slightly less than I managed today! So I'm really chuffed. Back to read everyone else's recent triumphs now!

RunningInto · 18/10/2025 19:11

Well done @TyneFilth fab time.
Just a 3m trail this morning very windy as weather changing then a chatty walk with some friends plus dog walk later so still got 20k steps in.
Weather looks horrid tomorrow hope you survive the run @Whataninterestinglookingpotato

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 18/10/2025 19:32

@TyneFilth fantastic work, well done!

Great step count @RunningInto. Are you still swimming? I haven't been in for a couple of weeks but will try to swim this week.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 18/10/2025 19:54

Well done @TyneFilth that’s a fantastic time.

well done on your trail run and step count @RunningInto

i shall report back tomorrow with how the race went and whether I survived 😂😂

SFRSmum · 18/10/2025 21:55

I did parkrun this morning, back to my usual home based one, a flat, paved course.

I knocked 2mins 10 seconds off my PB!!! Down to just over 25 mins, and if im being really honest with myself, I dont think I pushed myself as hard as I could have done. Im always worried about pushing too hard and not being able to maintain
I did my 12k on holiday, very very hill run. But took it steady, took me 1hr 20 mins ish but I didnt stop!

13k to do this week and I think ill try some hill work in a shorter run too. Debating joining our local running group but I still feel im not good enough yet. Id rather wait and join when I feel I wont struggle to keep up with the real runners 🤣

Best of luck for tomorrow @Whataninterestinglookingpotato hope the weather improves for you.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 19/10/2025 14:19

Well done on your parkrun PB @SFRSmum thats fantastic!

Weymouth 10 mile race completed. The weather was just as bad as I thought it was going to be! Pretty much soaked from the start line. It was ok though until we turned onto the sea front for the final leg and that wind! I just couldn’t seem to move against it! I managed to pick the pace back up after a little while but I thought I was going to take off at times!

Anyway. Not perhaps as fast as I would have liked but happy enough with my 1:17 mins after last Sundays marathon. I was first for my club and 14th female over all.

Hope everyone else has managed to avoid the worst of the weather!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 19/10/2025 14:40

Well done @Whataninterestinglookingpotato ! Sounds punishing.

I did just under 7 miles of hilly trail this morning. A couple of years since I'd run that route, and I was pleasingly faster despite run/walking. The rain kindly held off until I'd finished.

Visiting my parents this week. They live halfway up a hill, so all my runs will either start or end with a climb.

BogRollBOGOF · 19/10/2025 17:09

Another parkrun - long run weekend for me.

Garmin rated the parkrun as a threshold run which is positive. I'm also back in the "productive" zone.

7mi run today. Didn't beat the rain, but I was about halfway and well warmed up before it started so it wasn't too uncomfortable. I can't remember how long it is since my last wetting!

It's gone really autumnal out there now.

tinks3110 · 20/10/2025 09:52

Well done on your great times all you racers. I climbed snowdon last week with my gym friends and my legs did not thank me for it last week. I still managed to get out though, couple of 5ks and a 10k on Saturday. I am racing a halloween 👻10k on Sunday, not sure how it will go but just trying to keep up the miles.
Had an email last night about the Yorkshire marathon next year and impulsively signed up, this morning I am thinking what the hell have I done 😂
