Hi all, just setting up a second thread - I hope you don’t mind @Jumbojem but the other one was getting a bit close to ending…

Sorry to keep harping on about the weather but it’s still raining up here so instead of running this morning I’m going to get back on my lovely water rowing machine which I’ve neglected totally since starting running back in Jan/Feb. I miss it (and I miss the muscle toning it gave me) so I’m going to get back on this morning for a change.

Might do parkrun tomorrow or a longer run, haven’t yet decided.

Good luck Bristol to Bath runners. I'm sure you'll do well, and more importantly enjoy!

First XC fixture of the season tomorrow. It's one of the toughest in terms of hilliness, but I always make a point of doing the first and the last.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 26/09/2025 22:09

Enjoy your runs both of you!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 26/09/2025 22:10

And you @xsquared!

Just parkrun for me tomorrow. Had a lovely early morning river run on Wednesday, and planning a longer run on Sunday.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 27/09/2025 06:59

Good luck to you @xsquared! have a good run!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 27/09/2025 16:24

Bristol to Bath all done!! Lovely route apart from the pig of a hill at mile 10, that thing was savage!! The hill coming into Bath wasn’t too pretty either! But a fun race with lovely views! Super busy in places though due to the hikers sharing the same path but it was only an issue in certain parts.

very happy with my time and how I did. I came first in my age category, which was nice!

hope it went well for you @Jumbojem.

xsquared · 27/09/2025 16:38

Fantastic result @Whataninterestinglookingpotato !

First XC done and dusted. It was brutal!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 27/09/2025 17:00

Well done @xsquared!

BogRollBOGOF · 27/09/2025 17:54

I've got a stopwatch bingo at parkrun... only 3 to go! Just 25, 28 and 40 left.

It's one of those runs that felt hard for the outcome but was actually better than I realised. It was a course best (one I haven't been to much), only 7 places behind DH and 31st female behind his 103rd male 😂

I'm beginning to feel ready to build more running back in betwen parkruns, and my legs have finished the week feeling pretty normal- so normal that I've finally had time and energy to catch up on the housework that's built up in recent weeks.

DH is mumbling about a HM at Christmas... it sounds like a multi-lap running festival one, but it would be nice to go to one together... wouldn't it? 🤔😂

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 27/09/2025 18:04

Well done @BogRollBOGOF im glad you’re finding your mojo again.

and yes, it would be a nice one to do together. I just sent dd1 the details of a Christmas jumper 10k on the 21st December. Thought it would be nice to do together 😁. Not sure if dd feels the same 😂.

Jumbojem · 27/09/2025 18:19

Well done @BogRollBOGOF sounds like the running is really starting to pick up for you.
@xsquared Well done on XC, always good to get a tough course out the way. Our season kicks off in 2 weeks with one of the tougher courses.
@whataninterestinglookingpotato wow first in your age group is amazing! I really enjoyed it, even the big hill. Although the last couple of miles with those steep little climbs and steps were a bit of a killer and unexpected, I thought it would be all downhill after the big hill 😆 my hips are very stiff now, just done a bit of yoga to try and loosen up a bit.

TyneFilth · 28/09/2025 07:20

Hello all, lovely to hear of these weeknight sunset runs and big weekenders. Congratulations on the Bristol to Bath, sounds amazing, and the XX!

I have had my omelette and am psyching myself up to do 14k this morning which is what is on my plan, it's three weeks till me HM. That will be the longest I've run since the tri two weeks ago, and then I need another long one (16 is the target) at the end of this week.

I did my first guide running for a blind person this week! It was just from a shout-out on a Facebook group I'm in, and I met her at the registration tent, and off we went! Brilliant feeling - it was a slow 5km for me but perfect for her. Then I did scanning at parkrun yesterday so I feel like I've paid into the system a bit.

Right, coffee while I think of a route, get some laundry on, warmup, stretches, running kit on by 0830.

tinks3110 · 28/09/2025 11:19

@TyneFilth that sounds great! Well done you
I’ve been out this morning and done 7 miles. My longest run since GNR 2024, so I’m really pleased with myself 😂

BogRollBOGOF · 28/09/2025 13:20

I bit the bullet and got out for my first "long run" in weeks. I say "long run" as I've gone back to basics, and it was an hour of gentle running so not much further than parkrun which has been my base.

I'd got up to 8mi in August, so it's not really that long since doing higher milage, but I need to build back up gently again. I jeffed it 30:30. It felt right. Not easy (and could feel it after yesterday's whingy parkrun), but not a strain either. No rest/ recovery at work for me!

It was nice when I finished. The start was so damp I could see my breath. It was cool, but not that cold!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 28/09/2025 16:04

@TyneFilth guide running must be really rewarding. I’d like to do that some time. Did you need to have training? I know you e mentioned it before but couldn’t recall the specifics.

Well done on your long runs @tinks3110 and @BogRollBOGOF

ladies 10k today. Another early start and a coach down to Devon to take part. I was tired from yesterday and I felt unable to pelt it down the hills as much as I would have liked to as my right hip and knee are a bit iffy from yesterday and didn’t want to risk proper injury which could take me out of the game when I have a marathon in 2 weeks. It was a hilly route with a mix of up and down and then a fairly brutal up hill at the end which everyone who had done the race before kept going on about. It was tough but the worst part was having to stop as I nearly got run over by a Tesco delivery driver as I turned the corner at the top!! 😂.

came away 7th over all (though I think I was actually 6th as everyone said I came over the line before the woman next to me and my chip time is faster, but not going to bother arguing). I did get first in my age category again today though and the prize was lovely. So very pleased about that. Time of 46:42 which I’m pleased with given the hills and yesterdays activity.

tinks3110 · 28/09/2025 19:40

@Whataninterestinglookingpotato that’s an amazing finish!

TyneFilth · 28/09/2025 21:38

Amazing 10k time @Whataninterestinglookingpotato and that sounds like a really well thought through long run @BogRollBOGOF

The guide running training I'm doing is through England Athletics, and is offered in a few places around the country. I'm going to QE Olympic park for mine, a two hour session in Oct. Apparently it will include being blindfolded and trying to run without my sight, but my "client" the other night was a bit dubious about whether that's useful - she said "this is my normal, I haven't lost my sight, I have always run this way." I'm excited anyway!!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 28/09/2025 23:01

Good grief @Whataninterestinglookingpotato you are a running machine! Well done!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 29/09/2025 06:55

Thanks all. I’m not sure I’m a running machine @OhOneOhTwoOhThree! I’m certainly a little creaky this morning. But it was a fun weekend!

thanks for the info @TyneFilth i think I may sign up at some point. Seems like a nice way to give back.

RunningInto · 29/09/2025 12:09

Wow some great running over the weekend well done. The guide running is really lovely to see we have a regular pair at our local parkrun I’m in awe of the trust from the blind runner.

A Beaut sunrise run with dog this morning on our local common did put winter leggings on expecting it to be super chilly sub-5c and ended up overheating once sun was up. Also had lovely 10m walk over the weekend with DH exploring somewhere new which required bit of rusty compass & map skills as GPS map kept dropping signal. Thank goodness it was clear visibility or I could see how quickly you can get in trouble. Still ended up knee deep in a bog at one point lucky DH pulled me out quick. I must buy a fold up light trek pole does anyone use them for trail stuff?

Jumbojem · 01/10/2025 21:33

@tynefilth good on you for volunteering for guide running. There are some visually impaired runners who run with a guide when I do XC, which always floors me at the courage to run in a pack on uneven muddy ground. Let us know how you get on with the training and thanks for the link, I'll take a look.
@whataninterestinglookingpotato I don't know how you managed a 10k the day after the bristol to Bath, my hips were so stiff the following day. Only just managed my first short run today.
What events or challenges do people have planned for this last quarter of the year? I feel like I need something to aim at! Although I have three XC events and the local boxing day race before the year end so that should be enough!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 02/10/2025 07:10

I honestly don’t know what possessed me to sign up for a 10k race the day after Bristol to bath @Jumbojem i was on holiday and I’d had a few drinks and it seemed like a good idea. Tbh i was ok. I think I’m quite lucky in that I seem to recover quickly. though my knee is a little tweeky this week. Glad you managed to get out for a run today and hope that you’re feeling recovered!

I have Bristol and Bath railway races marathon on the 12th of this month, then Weymouth 10 miler on the 19th. I’m doing a half in Southampton on the 9th November and dd1 is doing the 10k there and then I have a 10 mile trail race that’s very local to me and is a bit of a local legend for how muddy and slippery it is in December. I’ll also probably do the Santa dash. So a few things to keep my out of trouble.

what everyone else got planned? XC sounds fun. I’m not sure whether we have a XC series round here. We have a summer series but not seen XC.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 02/10/2025 08:15

Great running folks, well done @Jumbojem and @Whataninterestinglookingpotato, that sounds like a challenging course.

@RunningInto glad you didn'lt get lost or stuck in a bog!

Well done @BogRollBOGOF good to see you gradually getting back to running further.

Great work with the tie running @TyneFilth .

I had a decent long-ish run on Sunday. No running since but I've done quite a bit of walking this week and am planning another long walk today.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 02/10/2025 08:17

I had an absolute nightmare on Sunday. I fainted 3 minutes from the end of my race and didn't finish. 😭

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 02/10/2025 08:35

Oh @MissScarletInTheBallroom you poor thing. Are you OK now?

Fine now, just really disappointed obviously. And it was pretty scary at the time. My poor kids saw everything.
