Hi all, just setting up a second thread - I hope you don’t mind @Jumbojem but the other one was getting a bit close to ending…

Sorry to keep harping on about the weather but it’s still raining up here so instead of running this morning I’m going to get back on my lovely water rowing machine which I’ve neglected totally since starting running back in Jan/Feb. I miss it (and I miss the muscle toning it gave me) so I’m going to get back on this morning for a change.

Might do parkrun tomorrow or a longer run, haven’t yet decided.

It’s just bath to Bristol railway races marathon @Jumbojem It’s meant to be a fairly flat course. Not a big marathon but hopefully will be a nice one for my first try.

Jumbojem · 14/09/2025 14:46

Hope things do perk up @BogRollBOGOF do you know what's causing low energy, or are you recovering from something?
I went for a walk this morning, before the rain came, partially around the local parkrun route. Made me think maybe I should give it a go now and then over the winter. I just love a weekend lie in though!
@Whataninterestinglookingpotato sounds promising for the marathon, which one are you planning to do?

I've just had a block of being on holiday, some sniffles that went around the family that made us slightly "meh" (rather than outright ill) followed by returning to a physical job after a prolonged spell of being a SAHM and my body adjusting back to that.

I've been active, just not the spare time/ energy to fit much running into life. It'll slot back in soon though.

tinks3110 · 15/09/2025 16:54

Hi all, no running for me this weekend. We moved my eldest down to uni so it’s been a busy one.
10k race for me on Sunday, hoping to get close to my .55.18 pb

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 15/09/2025 17:45

Good luck @tinks3110 im sure you’ll smash it! Hope you’re ok following your DCs move to uni. It’s a weird feeling isn’t it. Happy and sad all at once.

that’s a lot of life stuff going on @BogRollBOGOF I’m sure you’ll find out running mojo again soon.

no run for me today but I am back to ballet now the summer hols are over. Club run tomorrow, hills Thursday and track Friday. Will try and fit in some strength training at some point too. Happy running folks.

RunningInto · 15/09/2025 20:31

Hope Uni goes ok for your YP @tinks3110 it feels strange seeing a few of my eldest DDs old friends going off this weekend on social media. I remember them from primary school! She’s taking a 2 gap year to work & pursue her sport so on a different path at the mo.

hopefully your be back to feeling more energised soon @BogRollBOGOF And Hope the ballet was good @Whataninterestinglookingpotato

Early sunrise trail 5k run with dog this morning. Now massaging foot & calf again but did get some strength training in on my lunchtime break as working from home today.

tinks3110 · 15/09/2025 20:51

@Whataninterestinglookingpotato @RunningInto
it is a massive change for us, we dropped off yesterday and I was ok but I’ve had a bit of a cry today. He was very happy and excited so I suppose that makes it a bit easier.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 15/09/2025 21:02

That’s good @tinks3110. I cried like a baby on the way home from dropping dd1 off 2 years ago. She’s going into 3rd year this year and will be heading back at the end of the week. It’s not such a wrench now as it was then and I’m heading to her uni city at the beginning of November so we can both take part in the Movember charity run there. She’s going to do the 10k and I’ll do the half.

it’ll be weird next year as they’ll both be off to uni most likely! (Dd1 is doing an integrated masters so 4 years).

Jumbojem · 20/09/2025 14:51

Good luck to those starting uni, my eldest has also started but commuting from home. We had been thinking about doing parkrun today but OH had to go and pick him up at 3.30am from the freshers club night so it didn't happen!
My new hydration vest arrived ready for bristol to Bath so need to take that for a test run, of course now the rain has started after a dry morning.
@tinks How did the 10k go?

BogRollBOGOF · 20/09/2025 15:10

Parkrun done ✅️

A nice middling run. Started gently and it evolved into a progression run. I'm keeping the watch face on heart rate and running to what's in the tank rather than pace. Sub 32 mins which is pleasing on that course.

Legs were heavy, understandably and achilles had a little grumble or two, but I've been in management mode on that for about 6 months so nothing new or alarming there.

Somehow, I managed to get up the hill in my joint fastest time in over 100 goes!
Actually, getting down it went well too. The path is narrow and twisting so I try to relax and "flow" down it, but it's so easy to get jammed behind people on that section.

My legs have generally felt better through this week. Were pretty achey by last night, but I was at that stage by the Tuesday the previous week, so that's progress. Hopefully they'll perk up again next week...

Still not quite there for re-introducing regular running (well more than weekly) but I'll get there...
The fitness hasn't gone, it's just being temporarily redeployed Wink

RunningInto · 20/09/2025 16:00

Well done @BogRollBOGOF hope the legs are ok post run.

@Jumbojem eek 3am pick up is pushing it a tad hopefully there won’t be too many of those.

Decided not to do parkrun as heavy rain storm was forecast at 9am so we walked dog early and I then had a 5k trail run after so covered 10km in total before the rain hit. Need to do some yoga later as joints stiff now though. Run 15k this week walked 25k with dog and got a good pool swim in so feel happy with that as still nursing foot issues.

BogRollBOGOF · 20/09/2025 22:44

I've felt pretty decent through the day. Had a nice nap which helped too Grin

I haven't had the dull, tired legache today, but do feel appropriately used from parkrun so that's decently proportionate.

Tomorrow should be a decent recovery day too.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 21/09/2025 10:14

Glad your legs are feeling better @BogRollBOGOF

Well done for managing to avoid the rain @RunningInto we’ve been very lucky this summer it’s strange having to go back to dodging the rain!!

Ooof @Jumbojem 3:30am is no fun! Hope that’s not a regular thing! glad you e got you vest. I need to check mine and make sure it’s all ok ready for next weekend.

14.5 miles for me today about half of which was at target marathon pace. All ready for next weekends 25k trail!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 21/09/2025 18:04

Hi everyone, hope you are all doing well.

I've been bimbling along, nothing really in the calendar for me so I'm just trying to stay active with parkrun, a slightly longer run on Sunday and a couple of midweek runs.

I did a hilly trail run this morning - last did it in March, and although my average time was exactly the same according to Strava, my relative effort was much lower (and every much lower than the first time I did it). So I think that means I'm fitter?

I've signed up for a trail HM next March as part of training for a trail full marathon next May. I've told DH that counts as sticking to my "no more big runs", as I'm not doing the ultra on offer...

I have done something to my groin, I think linked to pain elsewhere on the same side. It's not so painful I can't run, but is bothering me a bit. Not sure how I caused it, but I've laid off the strength training for a couple of weeks.

tinks3110 · 23/09/2025 09:01

Sorry I’ve been awol for a bit! Thanks for asking @Jumbojem I was ever so slightly slower than the last time I ran the same race in August at 55.52. It was very warm again. Ik
happy though as think I have proved to myself I can maintain the faster pace without a pacer (a friend paced me to my PB in August)
my next race is 26th October a Halloween 10k which is completely flat so I am hoping for a PB at that one! It’s run club tonight hopefully a nice steady one. I want to try for 7 miles on Sunday and try to build up my distance as got a 8.8 miler in November

my eldest is getting on great at uni judging from all the pictures of nights out on insta 😂

Standingonlego · 23/09/2025 11:09

Rejoining the chat after a very long time away and delighted to see familiar name @OhOneOhTwoOhThree is here 😊

I’ve had a few mixed years fitness wise with injury, life and hormones but I’m now on the up ! Consistent parkrun attendance even if only just ahead of the Tailwalker has given me a really useful measure of how I’m doing. Delighted to report that finally made it under 30 mins once again after nearly 8 years of trying 🥰

Here as I’ve fallen back in love with running and love to hear folk chat about it

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 23/09/2025 15:13

Well done @tinks3110 that's a great 10k time.

welcome (back?) @Standingonlego

well done on your trail run @OhOneOhTwoOhThree

i did a 5.5k trail run with my dog on my lunch break yesterday as I was working from home and the weather was nice. Club run tonight. I’m in my taper weeks for the marathon now though I do have Bristol to Bath 25km at the weekend. So not too tapered 😂. I checked my hydration bladder that goes inside my vest and it’s a little ropey but will do.

RunningInto · 24/09/2025 09:42

the weather looks perfect for those doing the Bristol - Bath run if like me you like cooler weather that is. I’m loving these cool crisp sunny mornings this week. Ran Monday and this morning. I was a bit stiff this morning did first part of run on the beach with sunrise was lovely 5c wore gloves & buff. Tide was coming in so had to exit beach and return on path which a bit harder on my joints but got a quick sea swim in afterwards to cool muscles. Now trying to warm up Sat at my desk with blanket & woolly hat. Hope you all have good runs today

tinks3110 · 24/09/2025 16:53

I ran 5 miles with run club last night, I was leader again. It was a lovely out and back steady run watching the sunset. I love running at that time and the weather was perfect!

I went to the gym this morning and fell off the box doing box jumps 😳🙈 bashed my back and elbow! I knew exercise was bad for me 😂
your run sounds nice @RunningInto

BogRollBOGOF · 24/09/2025 17:44

I've managed my first post-work run! Just a little one, but I've been feeling more functional and less dead-legged this week. I won't go wild as there's still more week to get through, but it's progress, and something I can build on while we still have a decent amount of daylight into the evening.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 24/09/2025 18:54

Well done on your post work run @BogRollBOGOF itll get easier once you get into a routine.

your run sounds lovely @RunningInto and yours @tinks3110

i went to the gym and did the HIIT and core classes tonight. Bumped into an old work colleague there which was nice.

did 11k club run last night and as it was the last night for this year we will be going out into the countryside our group leader treated us to running up the longest and steepest hill in the area as a nice little goodbye to the lanes 😂. It was actually not as bad as I remember and I managed to run all the way up without stopping. I must be getting fitter!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 26/09/2025 13:48

Helllllooooooo @Standingonlego! So nice to see you!

Good luck to our Bristol/Bath runners this weekend.

tinks3110 · 26/09/2025 15:19

Good luck Bristol/Bath runners!

I have been really tired this week, so instead of running last night I had a lovely bath. I have done a quick 5k in my lunch break today and hoping to lengthen my Sunday long run to 7 miles but we'll see!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 26/09/2025 19:23

Thank you everyone!! I’ll see you at the start line @Jumbojem. I have managed to sterilise my slightly manky hydration bladder so hopefully it won’t kill me tomorrow 😂.

Well done to everyone on your runs this week.

Jumbojem · 26/09/2025 20:51

Hello! I need to go and sort my stuff for tomorrow @whataninterestinglookingpotato but I'm looking forward to it. Planning to have a nice lunch in Bath after too. I have not run beyond a half before so this will be my longest ever run. It should be a good day for it!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 26/09/2025 21:00

Good luck @Jumbojem!

I looked at the times from last year and when I saw the first female time from last year I was like, I reckon I could run it in that! Then I noticed a guy I run withs name, he is quite a bit faster than me and he only managed it two minutes faster than the fastest female, so I think I was over selling my abilities 😂. It’ll be a nice run no matter what.
