Hi all, just setting up a second thread - I hope you don’t mind @Jumbojem but the other one was getting a bit close to ending…

Sorry to keep harping on about the weather but it’s still raining up here so instead of running this morning I’m going to get back on my lovely water rowing machine which I’ve neglected totally since starting running back in Jan/Feb. I miss it (and I miss the muscle toning it gave me) so I’m going to get back on this morning for a change.

Might do parkrun tomorrow or a longer run, haven’t yet decided.

@Whataninterestinglookingpotato wow, well done that’s amazing 👏🏻

thanks, I did get out, did a new route and went faster than normal so that was good.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 29/08/2025 12:51

Well done @Stripeymouse glad you had a positive run today! Sometimes we need a break. I feel like that right now but needed to keep the miles up this week due to marathon training and being away next week.

looking forward to my week of sun and sea.

tinks3110 · 29/08/2025 15:05

Well done for getting out there @Stripeymouse
i went out yesterday lunchtime whilst on holiday, it was red hot when I set off, I got lost again 🙈 and it absolutely pelted it down with rain about half way round 😂 I managed 4.25 miles before I finally recognised our site and headed back 😂

happy to have managed 2 runs whilst away and I’ve reached 50 miles in August before the end of the month this time so very happy with that. Hopefully get out Sunday to add a few more miles to my August tally

Jumbojem · 29/08/2025 18:29

Well done on getting out @stripeymouse sometimes that first step really is the hardest but what a great boost to run faster!
@tinks3110 and @whataninterestinglookingpotato enjoy your holidays! Mine seems like a lifetime ago now, was hoping to find magic cheap flights for this week now DC don't start next steps until 8th or later and a work project delayed giving me a window of opportunity. Nothing as cheap as I was hoping sadly!
Good news is both my running friends are returning from injury so can have some running company again soon.

I haven’t been out yet this week. Seriously lacking motivation, I feel like a non runner again! I’ve got an hour free this morning so I’ll see what I can do.

I've only done a few easy km this week. Should have fitted in a 10mi which was hypothetically doable, but my body's been a bit niggly (not helped by hormones) and it's been a bitty, transitiony week that's cluttered up more than expected.

I was planning 10mi next week anyway so need to mind carefully where I fit that in, but can still hit that peak and sign up to a HM late Sept if I can be arsed. Hopefully some hormonal equilibrium in the next few days and getting properly on routine will make everything settle. I think my hormones have just been loud and stroppy today.

Saying that, it's been an active week, and I've done something every day, including fun stuff with the DCs. It's just not been running/ training focused.

Cantbesure · 30/08/2025 08:26

I had planned a longer run yesterday but made a balls up and got to my car at 9k and all motivation left me so I stopped!
mu local parkrun is cancelled today so I’m considering going and doing the beyond couch to 5k speed session instead.

BogRollBOGOF · 30/08/2025 14:51

I like those C25k+ podcasts. It's a shame there's only 3 of them.

The Nike Run app is a similar style of guided run.

I had a solo parkrun this morning so went for the easiest option.
Body still heavy/ sensitive, but I went with the flow, had a fun play list and got a pleasing time. With the way I've felt this week I went in with no expectations, and there was more in the tank than I'd thought.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 31/08/2025 13:12

Lovely little holiday 5.5k for me this morning. It’s really pretty here if a bit hilly!!

it was very warm at 8.45 this morning. Will try and get out earlier next time. The rest of the day has been spent sea swimming and lounging by the pool. Lovely.

hope everyone else has had a good running weekend.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 31/08/2025 13:51

Hello runners - well done all for your efforts!

I've had a busy life and work week so ran less than usual and skipped strength training as there just wasn't enough time. The time off must have done me good, as I somehow ran my fastest parkrun since May 2022 yesterday.

I had a slow bimble around a country park this morning, bringing my august total to 102k/63 and a bit miles. Which considering that I was recovering from the ultra, on holiday and have been volunteering more than running at parkrun the last few weeks feels good.

SoapCollector · 31/08/2025 16:41

@Cantbesure and @BogRollBOGOF I too enjoy the beyond couch to 5k sessions. I've done three of the speed interval sessions so far. Does anyone know if the session content changes after say 10 sessions or does it it keep repeating the same run and guidance?

@Whataninterestinglookingpotato your holiday run and swim sounds lovely, I'm quite envious!

Well done on your speedy parkrun @OhOneOhTwoOhThree

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 31/08/2025 17:54

I managed to squeeze in my long 16km that I was supposed to do on Friday, which means I managed to do exactly 150km in August.

Now need to taper down a bit before my race in 4 weeks!

The version of C25k+ I have is Stepping Stone, Speed and Stamina that I downloaded podcast style 10+ years ago. I didn't even have a smart phone then (probably in my Blackberry phase then Grin)

I'm not aware of others, unless that's changed since.

Although in totally unrelated news, in recent days I've discovered that Fighting Fantasy books have been re-published after having previously been out of print when I last looked them up, so things can change Wink
(And it's the first book dyslexic DS has been interested in in about 18m! Win!)

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 01/09/2025 06:23

Another holiday run for me this morning. Out by 7.10 and much nicer to temp to run in.

went with dd1 so pace for me was zone 2 but it was good because I get really don’t get enough of that in anyway. Dd1 did well considering she’s new to running and some of the hills are killer.

well done one your speedy park run @OhOneOhTwoOhThree

well done on your mileage @MissScarletInTheBallroom that’s amazing.

@BogRollBOGOF I think there is a graduate programme for c25k now. I think someone. Know is currently doing it. I don’t think it was a thing even 4 years ago when I did c25k.

NeverBeSoKind · 02/09/2025 20:01

Can I join in?
I have never enjoyed running - have completed Couch 2 5k a few times previously - and while I’ve got to the 30 mins running, that’s never been anything like the 5km distance and so I’ve always given up.
But then recently I’ve started going to the gym and just getting a bit fitter and a bit stronger. And then on August 5th I managed to run 5km without stopping which felt like a huge accomplishment. Since then I’ve been running every couple of days and this evening I just ran 9.1km without stopping or walking at all. Admittedly - it was not a quick run (1 hr 2 mins) but it just blows my mind that I am capable of doing this and I can’t believe that I am enjoying myself so much.

tinks3110 · 02/09/2025 20:49

Welcome @NeverBeSoKind and well done on your running.
I didn't run at the weekend which I’m a bit cross with myself about.
Ive not felt 100% this week so far but our run club leader was on holiday tonight so I lead the group on a 4 mile run. Very odd planning a route, I usually just lace up and go! It wasn’t my best run tonight but happy I got out there when not feeling my best

BogRollBOGOF · 02/09/2025 21:25

Brain still noped out about running.
We've all got a bit of a sniffle. Nothing major but just a bit run-down and on basic function. Probably why my PMT felt particularly grotty last week, and I've not switched into my sudden "yey!" mode like usual.

The timing's annoying. I'd originally scheduled in a couple of 10mi runs, with a goal in mind, but I've just not been able to make them work, and I'm not sure if I can fit them in now.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 03/09/2025 06:25

Welcome @NeverBeSoKind and well done on your running! 9k is a great distance!!

@tinks3110 thats fun being group leader. I’ve not done it yet either but I may volunteer soon.

@BogRollBOGOF I hope you find your running mojo again soon.

I’ve just done another lovely holiday 5k. I’ve never been a morning runner (by choice, I’m always moaning about 8am marathon training club runs) but it’s been lovely to be out early each day. First run of a new decade for me today. Now often to eat drink and be merry!

Cantbesure · 07/09/2025 16:37

Hope everyone is managing to get out this weekend. I got another parkrun PB this week. Tantalisingly close to sub 28, I was encouraged down the finish line by one of my club run leaders and seriously thought I was going to throw up when I finished 🙈😂

xsquared · 07/09/2025 16:47

Well done @Cantbesure on your parkrun pb. It won't be long before you hit sub 28.

Did anyone on here do the Great North Run today? I hope you enjoyed the race and atmosphere.

Not wanting g to feel left out, I ran my own half marathon this morning and got my 3rd fastest HM. The other two were from a flat course.

RunningInto · 07/09/2025 16:56

Well done @Cantbesure and @xsquared great runs.

Away in SW at the moment slightly nursing a sore Achilles & foot issues but have done back to back 20k steps days including a lovely run / walk along coastal path today. I ran the grassy flattish bits but had to pick my way gingerly up/down the muddy stony stepping parts with my sore foot. Really hoping it doesn’t get worse as I’ve been nursing it for a few weeks now. I have a sports therapist apt this week to see if they can help.

xsquared · 07/09/2025 16:59

Thanks @RunningInto . I hope your foot get better.

Jumbojem · 07/09/2025 21:36

Well done @Cantbesure and @xsquared on your times. I joined a Strava challenge to run a 5k PB within a 3 or 4 week timeframe, but didn't make it. I have seen there's another one which runs until end Sept so will aim to try for a better 5k time by then. Oh, it's not a PB, sorry, the challenge is to get a best time since the start of the year, which is a bit more achievable as not sure I'm capable of beating my PB anytime soon (or ever, mine was set mid 40s and I'm early 50s now and feel like speed has left me).
Long run today, was aiming for 10 miles, and it was sunny after the storms of first thing. But at mile 7 the sky went black and it poured with rain shortly after. Then at mile 8 my watch ran out of battery (knew it would be a close call🤣) and since I was now soaked and it didn't "count" anymore I gave up and jog/walked home. I did pick up the effort for the last couple of miles though to counteract the reduced distance!

Many posts ago I asked for bra recs, just want to say the shock absorber run bra I bought in a bigger size than my old one (Meno boobs/weight gain) is a good supportive but boring bra. Also got a non wired panache spot bra and I love it, so comfy, vibrant colours. Just a bit crap in the racer back mode but I don't have that many racer back tops anyway, or just don't care about straps showing.
My other running product I love is open shokz headphones. Mine are 5 years old and have just stopped charging so I will need to replace asap, long runs with no podcast or audiobook is a challenge!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 08/09/2025 06:36

Well done on i to our park run PB @Cantbesure you’ll soon be under 28 mins.

Hope your foot feels better soon @RunningInto. Enjoy your time away.

well done on your half @xsquared

Well done on getting out for a long run @Jumbojem.

il back form a lovely holiday where I managed to run 5k every morning. I’m going to miss the views, but maybe not the giant hills! I did manage to get to 4th on the leader board for the Strava segment for the massive hill by the end of the week! So feel pleased I’ve left my mark 😂.

got out for a longish run of 9.5 miles yesterday. Not as far as I should have gone but not too bad and my pace was good despite a hilly route. Need to try and get an 18-20 mile long run in this weekend.

im doing Bristol to Bath 25k at the end of the month. I’m sure some others from here have also signed up? Then after a few drinks on holiday I decided it would be a great idea to sign up to a ladies 10k the next day. Why do I do this to myself? 😂. Hope everyone has a good week.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 08/09/2025 08:28

Morning all! Some good running - very impressed with your daily 5ks @Whataninterestinglookingpotato

@Jumbojem I too love my shokz. Well done in getting out yesterday, a shame the weather was unkind.

I hope your foot gets better soon @RunningInto. Enjoy your holiday.

Well done on your HM @xsquared. A few friends were at the GNR today, looking forward to hearing how it went for them.

@BogRollBOGOF and @tinks3110 are you up an running again? How’s the taper going @MissScarletInTheBallroom ? Are you still doing the speed sessions @SoapCollector ?

Well done on your parkrun PB @Cantbesure

Welcome @NeverBeSoKind !

I had a good week/weekend. A bit pushed for time so didn’t manage strength training again, but got out on Thursday for a short run, zoomed around parkrun with a fast friend on Saturday and took another minute off my time (not sure how that happened after bobbing along for months at the same speed - I didn’t feel like I was pushing much more than usual) and had a muggy 7 miles on some trails yesterday. I stopped to pick some plums and blackberries and couldn’t get going properly again afterwards. I also got put on my bike and had a very windy lake swim yesterday as well as daily yoga with Adriene so am pleased today is a rest day 😄

SoapCollector · 08/09/2025 16:22

@NeverBeSoKind welcome to the thread!

I'm still including a speed session (well speedy for me!!) about once a week. @OhOneOhTwoOhThree I don't seem to be getting much faster though! Think it's my age, I'm early 50's now, my fitness used to improve alot quicker when I was younger! Does anyone on here do more than one speed interval session a week?

I'm going out for a jog tonight, if the heavy rain keeps off!
