Hi all, just setting up a second thread - I hope you don’t mind @Jumbojem but the other one was getting a bit close to ending…

Sorry to keep harping on about the weather but it’s still raining up here so instead of running this morning I’m going to get back on my lovely water rowing machine which I’ve neglected totally since starting running back in Jan/Feb. I miss it (and I miss the muscle toning it gave me) so I’m going to get back on this morning for a change.

Might do parkrun tomorrow or a longer run, haven’t yet decided.

I'll be fine, and I've enjoyed my break. The HM I'm hoping to do is with the goal of doing, not performance anyway. I've got a long, consistent fitness, so a few weeks of disruption is a bit of a rest and not going to undermine more than a couple of runs getting back to it. It's good to have the mental break too and I'm at the point of looking forwards to the return of routine again.

DCs back at school this week Grin
I start my new job part way through next week...

SoapCollector · 24/08/2025 15:12

Good luck with the new job @BogRollBOGOF !

SoapCollector · 24/08/2025 15:15

Well done on the 15 miles this morning @Whataninterestinglookingpotato that's a great achievement.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 24/08/2025 18:16

@RunningInto I thught I was also past the point to no return. I don't think I'll ever get back to my best, but it's good to see improvement.

@Jumbojem glad you have got results days behind you. Nice to see you posting again. Sounds like a nice long run.

@Whataninterestinglookingpotato I like your style with the shoe purchase - glad that your training seem to be going well for your marathon.

Hope you had a nice holiday @BogRollBOGOF and good to hear you enjoyed your sea swims.

I tail walked at parkrun yesterday and ran this morning. About 7.5 miles on trails. I've kept up with the strength training as well, although too early to tell if it's making a difference. DS1 is a bit of gym bunny and has been showing me how to do some of them.

Have a good bank holiday weekend all!

tinks3110 · 25/08/2025 08:35

Morning all, we have also had a level results in our house and my son is going to Lincoln in 3 weeks 😳 I’m currently in denial.
i managed 5 very hungover miles yesterday and we are off for a week away today. I’ve packed my kit so hoping to get out for a few little runs whilst we’re away

Cantbesure · 25/08/2025 09:20

I volunteered at parkrun this weekend for the first time so no time for me. I did run there and then did a nice 5k with a friend. I added on an extra speedy 1.25km as I nearly missed an appointment!! Funny how fast you can run when you need to 😂

LovesToWalk · 25/08/2025 10:16

Hi guys - sorry for joining and then radio silence! I went on a very very lazy holiday. I’m back and after I’ve put the cases away and finished the laundry I am ON IT! So I’ll catch up with all your updates later today x

BogRollBOGOF · 25/08/2025 13:23

I'm in denial about the laundry!

I've had a good gym session this morning, making the most of the bank holiday.
OMG the spa waterfall jets on my post-camping back GrinGrinGrin
I hadn't realised how much tension was in there!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 25/08/2025 13:54

Well done on your run and the strength training @OhOneOhTwoOhThree I just do some this week! I usually do a Monday but races today so won’t. Will have to make sure I don’t forget to!!

Well done on your run @Cantbesure and also for volunteering. I need to volunteer at park run soon!

well done on 5 miles with a hangover @tinks3110 always an achievement!!

hope you enjoyed your holiday @LovesToWalk im off on Saturday! Can’t wait!

Well down on your gym session @BogRollBOGOF those jets sound like heaven!

I did a very warm 5 mile road race today. I tried out my new racing shoes and they did me proud! 4th female over all and 1st in my category. I’m actually got a prize for the first time!! Woohoo!!

happy running everyone.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 25/08/2025 20:32

I'm really on a roll this month. Done 119km so far in August and need to do a 16k on Friday so my new goal is to hit 150km before the end of the month. Then in September I need to start tapering down a bit before my race.

Last year I only ran 56km in August (went on holiday for the last two weeks and didn't run at all) so I'm hoping to do well in the race. The only thing is I haven't been doing a lot of speed work or hills. It's very flat where I live so I might need to take the bus to the bottom of the huge hill on the race route and run up it a few times. That bastard hill nearly killed me last year.

The guy I ran with last year is on the waiting list for a last minute bib. I hope he gets one so he can get me through the race again, he was the most excellent pacer.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 25/08/2025 20:32

Well done on your race @Whataninterestinglookingpotato!

xsquared · 25/08/2025 22:19

Wow! Well done on getting a category prize and nearly being a podium finisher!
@Whataninterestinglookingpotato

RunningInto · 26/08/2025 07:57

Wow well done @Whataninterestinglookingpotato thats brill.

early beach run for me and a rough dip as sea swell really picking up for a few days

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 26/08/2025 08:43

Thanks all ☺️.

your sea dips always sound lovely @RunningInto a colleague of mine lives on the other side of our county on the coast and her runs always look lovely along the coast with a dip in the sea. I’m a bit jealous!

Well done on your monthly mileage @MissScarletInTheBallroom that’s a great amount! Good luck for your race. What distance is it?

It's 16.2k, with a massive hill from 5-8k!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 26/08/2025 09:28

Oof! @MissScarletInTheBallroom that hill sounds quite unpleasant! Though I guess if you have to have a massive 3km long hill, km 5-8 is probably about the best place for it!

good luck!!

tinks3110 · 26/08/2025 11:24

Well done for your race @Whataninterestinglookingpotato thats amazing

great mileage @MissScarletInTheBallroom I am trying to gradually increase my mileage per week so that the knees don’t go again which is what happened when I increased too fast last year training to GNR! So far so good.

we are on our little holiday at a lodge with a hot tub. I managed to get up before everyone else this morning and go for a run. I only meant to do a quick 5k but got lost 🙈 and ended up doing 5.5 miles 😂😂 ran through a nature reserve and a beautiful dragonfly followed me for ages 😍

TyneFilth · 27/08/2025 09:16

Hello! Wow @Whataninterestinglookingpotato and @MissScarletInTheBallroom you've been going amazingly!

I had a mixed weekend with complete exhaustion to start with (difficult GCSE results day and a dying family member 50 miles away) but on Monday I did a 'brick' 20k ride on my newly serviced road bike and then straight into my usual 5k route on the heath. Hot but got some local segment PBs which was pleasing!

Then, not sure whether this was wise only 24h later, but I ran 8k to work with my young pacer colleague. Kept to about 6:30mins/km which is really good going for me, and with hardly any fuel (and no coffee, because of the obvious potential for bladder leakage).

I'm training for an Olympic distance triathlon in mid Sep and a half marathon in mid Oct. I've just seen a 15km trail run the weekend before the half, called "the hurt" and I'm v tempted... Someone tell me that's unnecessary/unwise please? I might go and marshal it just for the vibes...

Marshalling sounds like the more sensible option. It sounds like a high-recovery course to get over in a week.

I hope the aftermath of the GCSEs is falling into place, and Flowers for the bereavement xx

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 27/08/2025 09:43

Enjoy your holiday running @tinks3110

@TyneFilth wow! An Olympic distance triathlon sounds like a challenge! Good luck! That trail run sounds fun! But then I like a challenging trail. Thinking of signing up for one near me called the full Monty-cute which is 10 miles and 10 massive hills in December. Apparently it’s pretty gruelling!

club run for me last night and 8 miles done. I think I’ll have a rest from running today and go to a gym class instead. Proper rest day tomorrow and then long run before I go off on holiday on Friday. Going to try and get 17 miles in the bag.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 27/08/2025 09:46

Through @BogRollBOGOF is probably right and marshalling is probably the more sensible option. Never look to me for sensible advice 😂. I’m the weirdo doing a 25km trail race 2 weeks before a road marathon 😂.

enjoy the vibes whatever you decide.

RunningInto · 27/08/2025 10:15

@TyneFilth hope the Tri training goes well and you have a taper opportunity in your training. I remeber doing “bricks” geez nothing quite beats that jelly feeling off the bike. I only did Sprint distance that was enough for me.

“Rest” day for me just dog walk and 25min yoga at home this morning as my joints are very stiff always happens when weather changes I get creaky. Also had warning pain on my sole of my foot and I really don’t want to get plantar fasciitis again so stretched out all the muscles around foot & leg seems to have helped.

Stripeymouse · 29/08/2025 07:39

I haven’t been out yet this week. Seriously lacking motivation, I feel like a non runner again! I’ve got an hour free this morning so I’ll see what I can do.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 29/08/2025 11:47

@Stripeymouse how did you get on? We all have weeks like that. Hope you can find the motivation to get back on it, but sometimes we need a rest.

just under 16 miles for me today. Getting a long run in before I go on holiday tomorrow as won’t do more than a couple of 5ks next week. I think I had 4 season in one run today!!

hope everyone has a lovely weekend.
