Hello

Does anyone fancy joining me in trying to tone up by doing planks? I've started today with 3x 20 second planks. I aim to build up to a minute each one over the next few weeks. I'm interested to see the results over a few months.

Join at your own pace, if you can do 3x 5 second ones then join me too!!

Gave myself a day off but I'm staying with it. If I work some side planks or downward facing dog into it I can go for an extra 30-45s so I'm calling that a win.
Interesting to hear planks are good for knees. Dh has knee pain and he's joined me in daily planks, I'll ask him if he's seeing any improvements.
I noticed that Pilates roll ups are easier and smoother since all this planking.

Plankingplanks · 09/05/2023 21:09

Struggled today, so only managed 1 min 45 in total across 3 planks. Still did them though!!

I love that DH is getting involved! My DH just watches and makes comments such as "your arse is too high" or "cor you look fit". Neither of which are helpful!!! 🤣

I did day 18 on the app yesterday - a full two minutes. Ouch!

I'm on day 8 and 60 secs is a struggle. Had to do a couple of quick downward dogs to take the load off for a few seconds before I collapsed on the mat!

halfpasteleven · 09/05/2023 21:53

Did a 40 and a 50 second this evening. Considering I slipped and landed hard on my arse in the kitchen earlier I'm happy with that.

Splashed water while washing up at the sink and slipped on it... why am I so clumsy?!! Must admit my first thought once I'd gotten back up was "Fuck that- I'm still planking" 👍

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 09/05/2023 22:33

Day 21 on the app was two minutes and 30 seconds. I wasn’t sure I would make it but I DID IT! 💪 @AHugeTinyMistake i was doing 60 seconds without the app before, I built up over a few months as a wee challenge by myself - the app moves pretty fast in terms of increasing the time, so you are doing great!

L1ttledrummergirl · 09/05/2023 23:11

I think I'll stick to my technique of assuming the position then hitting start on the timer.
Am I the only one splitting my planks up? I do one I the morning, one in the middle of the day and one in the evening.

I did three at 50 secs today. I'm really pleased with that as when I started it seemed so far away. Now I'm nearer the minute mark. I'm building slowly, but it seems to be working.

Plankingplanks · 10/05/2023 08:22

Got in 3x45 secs this morning. I seem to be stuck at 45 secs. I think it's a mental block though because I managed 3x60 last week.

For those moving into downward dogs, are you doing forearm planks or straight arm ones?

3 mins 15 done 😮‍💨
Felt it in my shoulders more than ever today

LongLostNailVarnish · 10/05/2023 19:37

still here, I just can't seem to get past the 1.10 mark, it actually seen harder then when I first start!

but atleast I'm doing then 🙂

AHugeTinyMistake · 10/05/2023 21:51

2 mins 30 is incredible @Judystilldreamsofhorses - mind you the rate the app seems to be going I'll be there in no time 😬

@Plankingplanks elbow planks are easier than straight arm I find. Need a few secs of DD during straight arms or I'd wobble to the floor!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 10/05/2023 22:11

Another 2 30 for me today but my shoulders really hurt (I’d already done a body combat 30 minute YT session) so think I need to sit tomorrow out. I really pushed through C25K last year when my right foot started hurting, then ended up spending hundreds of pounds on physio for plantar fasciitis, so I have form!

halfpasteleven · 10/05/2023 22:13

Just the 1 x 3 today as I'm sore..

Today's mantra:
1 is better than none

halfpasteleven · 10/05/2023 22:13

1 x 30 seconds that should say!

Plankingplanks · 10/05/2023 22:51

halfpasteleven · 10/05/2023 22:13

1 x 30 seconds that should say!

Absolutely @halfpasteleven that's my mantra too!!

I've been out with work colleagues tonight and over eaten and drunk alcohol so feel rather guilty.

I've put on over 1.5 stone in the past 18 months and I'm desperate to lose it but I'm peri menopausal and can't seem to shift it! I'm 10st 8lb which is the heaviest I've ever been not pregnant and feel miserable about it, but at least I'm doing my planks. And that's something.

I had a migraine for most of today, so 15 mins of activity was followed by half an hour of resting with my eyes closed.
I didn't make the gym but did manage to do 3x 50 secs. It's been a bit grim today.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 10/05/2023 23:42

@halfpasteleven mine is generally “don’t let perfect be the enemy of good”

@Plankingplanks I am also peri and after starting HRT last year gained a whole stone in three weeks. I went the whole pandemic/WFH gaining 3lb, so it was a shock! I was a daily weigher previously but just thought, no more. I took the scales and put them in the shed with the spiders. I don’t know what I weigh now, and am definitely more 12/10 than 10/12, but my body is stronger and fitter than it has ever been. I try and do 10k steps, yoga, and a YT workout every day, but on work days it tends to be about 18k steps, yoga, and no workout - that’s okay. I mark on my calendar each day with a smiley face - :-))) for the three pillars. I follow a lot of body positive creators on TikTok and find that really useful.

halfpasteleven · 11/05/2023 21:42

3 planks this eve..

30, 45 and 40 seconds..

Happy with that..

Plankingplanks · 11/05/2023 23:13

3 x 1 minute tonight!! Plus about 30 seconds of doing one whilst arguing with DH who said my arse was up to high and me proving to him that was just where my arse sits and it is physically impossible for me to get it any lower, and then him attempting to move my legs/arse to prove I can..... Twat!! It's my bloody arse, I know where it goes!! 🤣

Plankingplanks · 12/05/2023 22:10

I've had a really shitty day. But you know what.... I still did my planks!!!

L1ttledrummergirl · 12/05/2023 22:20

I had a four hour drive this evening, still managed to do 3 x 1 min planks!
When I think that 3 weeks ago I'd never done 1 and my initial goal was to do 5 secs, I'm thrilled.

Thanks for keeping me going.
