Hello

Does anyone fancy joining me in trying to tone up by doing planks? I've started today with 3x 20 second planks. I aim to build up to a minute each one over the next few weeks. I'm interested to see the results over a few months.

Join at your own pace, if you can do 3x 5 second ones then join me too!!

I had a four hour drive this evening, still managed to do 3 x 1 min planks!
When I think that 3 weeks ago I'd never done 1 and my initial goal was to do 5 secs, I'm thrilled.

Thanks for keeping me going.

Love this too!

halfpasteleven · 12/05/2023 22:50

Had a busy day and evening, managed 2 x 50 and 1 x 40 seconds so very happy about the 50 seconds in particular!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 14/05/2023 00:00

Day 23 on the app - another two minutes and 30. I did a minute yesterday and Thursday because I have been a bit sore <old>

L1ttledrummergirl · 14/05/2023 02:03

Just done my third 1 minute plank of today/yesterday. I've been non stop do very pleased with that one.

Plankingplanks · 14/05/2023 17:33

So... I totally forgot to plank yesterday (for the first time this month), but I did cycle for 22 miles so I'll let myself off. Back to it today

Just got 3x45 secs in.

I'm having a rest day today. I found last week that having a day with no gym, and no planks helped the following day.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 14/05/2023 21:09

The app was three minutes today. As I had been out for a Sunday roast I did one minute on a timer and called it a day. Three minutes?!

xsquared · 15/05/2023 08:17

Instead of Tring to do 3 ×1:45 this morning. I did just one 3 minutes. That's enough!

Plankingplanks · 15/05/2023 21:02

Just got my 3 in 3x45 secs today... Whilst listening to DH, who after doing 3 planks today in a boxing class, is now even more of an expert in how to do them!

I have the patience of a saint not to have clouted him...

100 seconds seems like a really long time holding a plank! Day 15 of the app. Extremely unimpressed that it bookended the workout with the longest one at the start AND the finish. Really struggled with the final one, had to rest a couple of times to get it done

halfpasteleven · 15/05/2023 22:39

Horrible period these days so I'm not able...
I'll be back as soon as this stops though..

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 15/05/2023 23:07

I just did one 60 seconds today. I feel like the leap from 2 min 30 to 3 mins is massive and the app won’t let you repeat a day which is really annoying. I did C25K last year and repeated quite a few runs when I felt like it had been a lot and the jump to the next one felt daunting.

L1ttledrummergirl · 15/05/2023 23:22

@Plankingplanks Grin

I've done 3x 1 minute again today. I refuse to add more time until these feel comfortable and solid.

I started c25k about 3-4 weeks ago in the gym. I started stupidly slowly and repeated week 1 a number of times to get my pace up. I now do my fast walks at the pace of my initial run speed. I've completed week 2 but I'm going to repeat it until it feels comfortable, there is now point in doing it badly.

Interestingly, my dd competes at a high level sport, and one of her team mates was talking to me about the importance of nose breathing, so that's what I've been concentrating on. Lots of regular breaths. It sounds much easier than it is.

Breathing is quite literally half the battle when running. I ides to run a lot and if I didn't have my breathing right within a minute or so it would be a terrible run!

@halfpasteleven I hope you feel better today

So pleased to have been able to hit the one minute mark without too much of a struggle. Never thought I'd manage that 😁 so thanks to everyone on here for the encouragement and support.
I try and do one 1 minute one each day even if the others are slightly shorter around 50 seconds. Still such an improvement. Well done to everyone! Especially when it's a rough day.

Plankingplanks · 16/05/2023 22:21

Just quickly got 3 x45 in. Had to get out of bed.... 🤣

halfpasteleven · 16/05/2023 22:28

Well done @VelvetThunder - your post is so encouraging so thank you.

Thanks also @Plankingplanks -
I still have a heavy bleed and cramps (sorry if that's tmi) but managed 2x 30 seconds today and will aim to improve on that tomorrow.

Really love the support and encouragement on this thread.

L1ttledrummergirl · 16/05/2023 23:34

3 x 1 minute again. Ddog only lay across my arms, under my head for one of them today.

florenceandthemac · 17/05/2023 11:45

Well done everyone, still admiring everyone's work although I haven't planked since Thursday!! I have done some really intense core workouts since then though, which did include planks, but not 3 minute planks...
I think I'll get back to it today, see if I can recreate the 3 min 15s that I got to last week. Good luck for today all

VelvetThunder · 17/05/2023 18:49

@halfpasteleven well done that's an amazing achievement. Must have been even more challenging when you don't feel good.

Have managed 2x 1 minute today. Just one more to go later.

Plankingplanks · 18/05/2023 21:53

Woo Hoo. That is a whole month of planks completed. Only missed 2 days!!

People up for carrying on?

L1ttledrummergirl · 18/05/2023 22:08

I've done my 3 today, I didn't post yesterday, but I did those too.

I'm still at a minute, I swear they are getting harder, not easier.

florenceandthemac · 18/05/2023 22:11

I haven't planked for a week!! Well I have, shorter ones within workouts, but not my daily challenge plank!
Anyway, I love a tick list so I've made myself a new challenge and printed it off and I'll start tomorrow.
Starting with a 3 minute plank, I'm going to attempt to do that every day for a week then move up to 3:15, do that time for a week then move up to 3:30, and so on. Hoping to be at 4:30 by the end of June!
