Hello

Does anyone fancy joining me in trying to tone up by doing planks? I've started today with 3x 20 second planks. I aim to build up to a minute each one over the next few weeks. I'm interested to see the results over a few months.

Join at your own pace, if you can do 3x 5 second ones then join me too!!

I'm up for this. Have done lots of running but I'm crap at core and strength

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 19/04/2023 21:49

I’m in! Although I’m in bed right now so I’ll wait until the morning.

Solasum · 19/04/2023 21:50

Yes!

I can make no excuses for not managing to fit this amount of exercise in.

thanks for the suggestion

Radi0noise · 19/04/2023 21:50

Okay I'm in

carriedout · 19/04/2023 21:51

Oh yes OK then. I was thinking about planks the other day, for some reason.

Fortheloveofus · 19/04/2023 21:52

I'm in. 3 planks throughout the day or 3 within a certain time period? I've recently started doing them in gym but not daily.

falsepositivenervous · 19/04/2023 21:59

Oh this is fun! I actually started this thirteen days ago, using some plank challenge app. It began as 20s and now I'm up to 1m30s, which for me has been too fast of a progression, but I'm managing it!

I would love to join in with yous even though I've technically already started!

falsepositivenervous · 19/04/2023 22:01

PS I'm doing it only once a day, I do it in the evening, once I've done the first month I might start mixing it up and do it twice or three times a day, for different lengths.

To be honest I'm shocked I could manage 1.5min today, I definitely wouldn't have been able for it two weeks ago!

ZenNudist · 19/04/2023 22:01

I like this idea
I do pilates so can plank for a reasonable time frame but don't do it every day. Really CBA at 10pm.

staryellow · 19/04/2023 22:02

I'm in if that's OK! my core is a big wobbly jelly mess

Fortheloveofus · 19/04/2023 22:02

@falsepositivenervous wow, going up by 70 seconds in 13 days is amazing. Its taken me about 2 months to go from 10s to 30s. Well done

falsepositivenervous · 19/04/2023 22:08

@Fortheloveofus thank you! ☺️ although to be fair the 20s one didn't push me too hard, as although I haven't been exercising much lately, I've managed to keep some yoga up which helped.

I will say that after the 1.5m one today I was completely trembly all over my body and almost out of breath though, so I'm definitely pushing myself now 😂

And well done to you too!!

Plankingplanks · 19/04/2023 23:10

Yay, so glad people are going to join me!! So pleased in fact that I just jumped out of bed and did another minutes worth!!

All welcome to join, people who can't hold a plank for even 5 seconds and people who have been doing it for ages an can do them one armed!!

I don't think it matters. On this thread there are no rules, you do what you can when you can once a day!

Hello, can I join please? I started doing yoga back in November and do a one minute plank as part of that every evening but have just had Covid so have been struggling!

L1ttledrummergirl · 20/04/2023 00:29

I might join you. I started in the gym in January and am up to 26 mins of cardio 3x a week, plus 3kg weights. I started at 11 mins and 1kg weights so feel I've come a long way.
Today I did my usual routine and then started c25k, which I actually completed, nearly doubling my cardio time. My core is crap though so plank would be good for me, I may only do it on my non gym days though.

crispinglovershighkick · 20/04/2023 01:08

Great idea, I do Pilates and am already able to plank for a minute or so but despite practice I never really improve my times. I'm in!

Amortentia · 20/04/2023 03:07

Can I make a suggestion to anyone who has ever been pregnant and is doing planks. If there is the faintest chance you have Diastasis recti you should try the dead bug exercise instead.

Plankingplanks · 20/04/2023 07:30

Welcome new plankers (Plankees?)

Just about to get a few in early. I'll update with how many I've done and for how long later today. Feel free to add your own achievements. I'm interested to hear how we are all getting on.

Never heard of a dead bug exercise but will have a quick Google.

@falsepositivenervous what app?

@Plankingplanks I did 30 seconds. I could have gone longer but noticed how dirty under the bed is so got up! I might still with 30 as my start and try ten seconds more each day or something.

Waitingforsummer75 · 20/04/2023 07:52

I'm in. Will start with 3 x 1 minute as I already do yoga and Pilates and that's about my comfort zone.

bengalcat · 20/04/2023 07:55

I’ll join in when back from work tonight

falsepositivenervous · 20/04/2023 10:53

@Arewehumanorarewecupboards here's a screenshot of what it looks like on the App Store, and then what it looks like inside the app. You can do the challenge, and also set up your own timer (which I did for a couple of days around my period when the thought of a long plank made me cringe, so I opted for a thirty second one instead so as not to break my streak).
