Hello

Does anyone fancy joining me in trying to tone up by doing planks? I've started today with 3x 20 second planks. I aim to build up to a minute each one over the next few weeks. I'm interested to see the results over a few months.

Join at your own pace, if you can do 3x 5 second ones then join me too!!

@falsepositivenervous what app?

@Plankingplanks I did 30 seconds. I could have gone longer but noticed how dirty under the bed is so got up! I might still with 30 as my start and try ten seconds more each day or something.

This made me chuckle!! 🤣 I've done 3x 30 seconds today and plan to do some more tonight.

Hello 👋 I'd like to join will start tonight with 20s and see how I get on.
6 months ago I had great core strength because of gym routine I was doing, but my belly has grown big and flabby again, so really need to start doing something.

TheSaint01 · 20/04/2023 18:27

I do 2 min planks every day..... perhaps I could try one armed planks....?

L1ttledrummergirl · 20/04/2023 18:32

I've done two planks so far today. I aimed for 5 secs as I've never done one before, but surprised myself by getting to 20 secs so I guess that's my starting point.

Lilliflip · 20/04/2023 18:48

Hi 👋🏻 yes I’ll do it, started at the gym last year, very overweight and now much improved but need to work on my core. I think I can manage 3x30s, will try to build up to longer time over the month.

Yay!! Well done you... We will all be toned in our core in no time!

Ok I am in starting tomorrow!!!

MistySkiesAreGone · 20/04/2023 20:14

Ooh yes I could do this. A while back I started situps and eventually got myself to exercise classes, managed 250 in one class which I would not have been able to do otherwise. My plank however is crap.

sherbertyellowteddy · 20/04/2023 20:17

Ooo I'm in. I'll see how long I can hold a plank for and go from there. I always need motivation to exercise so hopefully this thread will help! 🤞🏼

VelvetThunder · 20/04/2023 20:31

Yes I'm up for joining.
Have been working out recently and have built up core strength again and ready to incorporate planks again.
Will start tomorrow.

Plankingplanks · 20/04/2023 21:31

So many on board, let's keep it up!! I've done 3 mins in total today. 2 sets of 30 secs x 3. I'll try 35 secs tomorrow.

I have been meaning to get back into this. I used to do a normal plant, side planks and v sits daily so I will try and use this as motivation. I am, however, already in bed, so it's a tomorrow job for me.

ModeWeasel · 20/04/2023 21:38

Bit late but I’m in!

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 20/04/2023 21:40

@falsepositivenervous thank you!

Noseylittlemoo · 20/04/2023 21:47

I started on 1st April doing 5 min core exercises everyday. Usually 1 min plank, 1 min each side plank , 1 min hollow hold and another exercise.
I run 5 x a week and even after one week I noticed my balance was alot better when doing stretches which involve standing on one leg.
After almost 3 weeks I feel like my core feels "pulled in" all the time. Unfortunately I haven't noticed too much difference in appearance - was hoping some semblance of abs might start to be visible but it's probably cos I haven't really changed my diet.

Quent · 20/04/2023 21:58

I'm in! I started today and aimed for a one minute plank, which I did actually manage, but I felt like my soul was about to leave my body at the end.

That’s amazing!

Ok, done for today. 2x 30 seconds and 1x 1 minute.

Tomorrow I’m going to aim for 2 x 40 seconds and see how long I can hold the last one.

I reckon I'd hold the last one for about 10 seconds! Next week I might add in side planks but for now I am sticking to planks

I downloaded the app from upthread and did the first “four days”. I’m also doing Lucy Wyndham Reid’s seven minute abs workout on YouTube at the moment.

Back in November I did a “healthy for 30” challenge that was going around on TikTok and my three daily pillars were a workout, yoga, and 10k steps. I’ve actually kept it up with at least two of the three every day since, until I got Covid last week, so this thread is great to help keep me on track. I’m an ex runner off my feet with plantar fasciitis, and miss it so much.

QueenBitch666 · 20/04/2023 23:48

I'm in. Regular gym goer here. Strong but my core could do with some help! I can manage a minute tops atm. Would love to improve on that. It's nearly midnight so will start tomorrow ( Friday )

Overrunwithlego · 21/04/2023 08:34

Oh my people!

I’ve got reasonably good core strength but set myself a new years challenge (not resolution!) to get up to a 5 minute plank. I started with a 1 minute plank in the first week of January (which is what I knew I could do already). Every day for that week I planked for a minute. The next week I added 5 seconds and planked every day for 65 seconds. And so on. I’m now up to 2 minutes 15 seconds. I should get up to 5 minutes at the beginning of December.

I think there are two days when I haven’t done it. One early on when I just forgot (it’s now so routine that I don’t forget) and one where I had cycled 50 miles that day and was just exhausted (I learnt I should have done the plank beforehand if I’m doing other exercise, so aim to do it first thing in the morning now).

So my tips - routine is key. The more you do the more you will do it. But if for whatever reason you don’t do it one day then don’t just throw the towel in. It’s just one day.

L1ttledrummergirl · 21/04/2023 09:07

I've done my first one today. I'll do the second before the gym later. I got my third in last night before bed. My body is thinking wtf.

VelvetThunder · 21/04/2023 11:11

I have so far this morning done 3 x 20 second planks amongst other workouts. Will see how the day goes to see if I fit any more in.
