Hello

Does anyone fancy joining me in trying to tone up by doing planks? I've started today with 3x 20 second planks. I aim to build up to a minute each one over the next few weeks. I'm interested to see the results over a few months.

Join at your own pace, if you can do 3x 5 second ones then join me too!!

I have tried rotating side planks today. Ouch.

Plankingplanks · 06/05/2023 10:36

@halfpasteleven I've actually smashed myself up quite badly and have a limp!! However planks are still fine to do!!

I'm really feeling the benefit of them I think. Definitely feel more toned!!

Sorry to hear that @Plankingplanks but fair play to you for keeping the planking up!
About to do my first one of the day now

halfpasteleven · 06/05/2023 10:46

Also meant to say I agree with you re the toning- I am finding I am dropping weight slowly but steadily while I am doing them

florenceandthemac · 06/05/2023 13:32

Well done everyone. I forget to do them on a weekend when I'm not in a daily routine, so this post has just reminded me.
Off to do my three minute (or try to 🥴)

AHugeTinyMistake · 06/05/2023 22:13

I started using an app - today was a rest day according to that but didn't want to break my streak so re-did yesterday's

Does anyone else keep prodding their stomach to feel if its getting firmer 😂

Yes to the prodding!!! 🤣🤣

L1ttledrummergirl · 07/05/2023 00:18

I did 3x40secs today, they are getting longer, still no easier though.

I'm recovering from long covid so trying to breathe through is keeping me focused and reminding me to regulate my breathing pattern.

My middle is definitely firmer.

Plankingplanks · 07/05/2023 07:15

I really must start trying to do longer. I did 3x45 secs again yesterday.

I'm definitely prodding my tummy too. This sounds a bit weird but it feels firmer when I bend down... As if there's something there when I bend over. Anyone else getting this?

You say it isn't getting easier, but it must be in order for you to be planking longer!
It will never feel easy, but it will be easier for longer as your core gets stronger

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 07/05/2023 11:44

I did day 18 on the app yesterday - a full two minutes. Ouch!

L1ttledrummergirl · 07/05/2023 11:48

@florenceandthemac this is true. It's starting to become part of my routine now which is a good thing.

florenceandthemac · 07/05/2023 12:00

Wow, well done in two mins @Judystilldreamsofhorses

Plankingplanks · 07/05/2023 21:00

Done 3x45 secs again today. Although I did get back out on my slightly broken bike!! Just going to bed though as I have to be up a 0430 😩

Well done everyone who's carried on. And to thi k I was worried that I'd be talking to myself!!

Didn't get to do any today- cramps and PMS made me feel so so rotten.
Need to be accountable on this thread for my own sake as much as anyone else's so am currently lying in bed finishing off a chocolate Easter egg.
This will NOT happen tomorrow

L1ttledrummergirl · 07/05/2023 22:18

I started to do one this morning, did 5 secs and collapsed in a heap, at which point ddog decided my arms were the best place to lay down.

I called it a day and decided that a rest day was in order. I've done so much over the last week that my body was knackered. Start again tomorrow though, I'm feeling better for the rest.

Plankingplanks · 08/05/2023 07:43

Rest up @halfpasteleven I hope you feel better soon. @L1ttledrummergirl I've only had 3 hours sleep and I'm now on a 12 hour shift so not convinced I'll be doing a lot today either!! Will ensure I get something in.

Just found this thread! I’ve been doing two minute planks every morning for about eight months (well, it took me a while to build up), since I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in both knees and my physio told me that a strong core really helps. It’s made a huge difference to my knees and I definitely notice that I lose weight more quickly (and put on weight more slowly when I’m being indulgent) than before. I’ve become a bit obsessed and even did it when I had covid (though I did have it quite mildly. -obv wouldn’t have done it with a high fever!) I still find it really hard though - it doesn’t seem to get any easier!

Whats the thinking behind the three planks? Is this a better approach? Should I be doing this?

Plankingplanks · 08/05/2023 08:44

@mynameisnotkate welcome to the thread. Well done... 8 months! absolutely no reason for the 3 planks apart from that I didn't want to over commit!!! 🤣

mynameisnotkate · 08/05/2023 10:54

Thanks! Btw, I meant osteoarthritis not osteoporosis! Damn autocorrect.

Plankingplanks · 08/05/2023 19:05

Quickly got in 3x 45 secs before I pass out from exhaustion!! 🤣

2 x 40 seconds this eve which I'm happy with as we had soccer training and a plumber here as well!

Very encouraging @mynameisnotkate re the weight loss

Planks really seem to be an all rounder when it comes to having exercise benefits...

L1ttledrummergirl · 08/05/2023 23:58

3x 40 secs for me today.

coolnice · 09/05/2023 00:29

Joining !

I've been trying to plank every day since January , been managing 3-5 planks a day of about 20/30 seconds each

Trying to increase it to 6-8

I've noticed a little bit of a difference I think

florenceandthemac · 09/05/2023 13:44

Welcome @coolnice 💪

Just done my 3 minute plank. I didn't get round to it on Sunday and Monday, but I'll continue to do 3 mins for the next two days then hopefully increase to 3:15 on Thurs
