Hello

Does anyone fancy joining me in trying to tone up by doing planks? I've started today with 3x 20 second planks. I aim to build up to a minute each one over the next few weeks. I'm interested to see the results over a few months.

Join at your own pace, if you can do 3x 5 second ones then join me too!!

I'm in. I've been meaning to do a 5-10 min core workout every day and have managed it once I think.

I've downloaded the plank challenge app. I'm WFH today so I might do it at lunch.

Placemarking

longtompot · 21/04/2023 12:07

I have been thinking of doing this, so can I join you all?
I did the plank challenge last year for a cancer charity and got up to 3 mins by the end of the month, though it was hard and couldn't do it all on forearms and toes, I did kneeling ones for the most part. I did notice it tightened up my middle and back a lot and I am need of that again what with middle age wobble kicking in😥

That's why I set up this thread, I'm always meaning to do things like a 5 min a day workout but life gets in the way. I figured I can fit in 3 planks a day any day so I've no excuse really.

Weirdly I'm now thinking "I wonder if I can get a few planks in before this meeting?!"

Okay, I'm in. I can do with a bit more strength training exercises, and the plank is easy enough.

Do you notice the difference when you've been doing them consistently?

Augend23 · 21/04/2023 18:46

They definitely get easier. I could do 90s+ without too much horror after a fairly consistent phase last year. Having not done any for ages (and out my yoga habit, though do do a decent amount of other exercises) I'm sitting at 45s at a push.

I had a boyfriend who was a bit ridiculous about it and got up to 8 minutes I think.

45s this morning. Keen to get into and stay in the habit.

L1ttledrummergirl · 21/04/2023 19:49

I've done 2 again today so far, both at 20 secs. 1 more to do before bed.

FTMbg · 21/04/2023 20:08

I'm late to the party but joining the challenge, thanks for the motivation.

L1ttledrummergirl · 21/04/2023 21:12

Now done 3. Grin

Plankingplanks · 21/04/2023 21:44

I've just done another 3 of 30secs so 6 in total today.

Well done all who have joined and are starting tomorrow... We shall have cores of steel in no time.

well done everyone, its good to see so many of us.

ok so on my first I managed to do a minute but today only 50s.

I'm taking the positive that at least I'm doing something everyday rather then nothing like the past 6 months.

I love this attitude.

Just managed 1 minute!!

am going to try a side plank when I recover

FabFitFifties · 22/04/2023 10:38

I'm in! Starting today. I'll time my best, and do 3 a day starting from there. Are people doing straight arms or forearms? I seem to find forearms harder, so maybe should do that. My aim is increase time rather than do more than 3. Will update daily.

MistySkiesAreGone · 22/04/2023 10:50

Right...back from Body Conditioning so I have NO excuse before my body cools down. Having a go now.

MistySkiesAreGone · 22/04/2023 10:56

21,22 and 33 seconds.

Nounoufgs · 22/04/2023 11:27

Good morning! 45 x 3 this is one exercise I am not too bad at. Perfect timing as my stomach is a mess!

Thanks for this thread and stay strong!

FabFitFifties · 22/04/2023 15:19

40,40,42. My 12 yo DS 75. I had to stop each time because lower back started to hurt. He stopped because he wasn't breathing 😂

L1ttledrummergirl · 22/04/2023 19:22

I've done 3 today. The first was hard, although I managed it (just), it was hard going to get to 20 secs. The next 2 were both 25 secs weirdly.
Very pleased with myself.

VelvetThunder · 22/04/2023 21:52

Almost forgot today's, but just quickly squeezed in 3 x 20 seconds.

TheChosenTwo · 22/04/2023 21:56

I’ve just had a large bottle of beer (over the course of an hour, not just necked it 😂) and thought I’d join in! Managed 45 seconds. Quite impressed, used to to these a lot aswell as side planks but think I’d be a bit ambitious doing those right now!

PermanentTemporary · 22/04/2023 22:01

Joining, only just found this... currently doing 1 x 30 sec so I guess the first thing would be to add in 2 more...

Plankingplanks · 22/04/2023 22:25

I've only managed 2 mins today. 40 secs x 3,but I went on a 10 mile bike ride and did the gardening so I'll let myself off.

Oh, I'm doing forearms...would find straight really hard on my wrists.

23 and 28 today. I should do my third one but I just ate a brownie. 😳

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/04/2023 23:09

I’ve completed day eight on the app which I think was one minute 20 - also done Lucy WR’s abs and arms workouts (two separate things) the last three days.
