Hello

Does anyone fancy joining me in trying to tone up by doing planks? I've started today with 3x 20 second planks. I aim to build up to a minute each one over the next few weeks. I'm interested to see the results over a few months.

Join at your own pace, if you can do 3x 5 second ones then join me too!!

Just banged out 3x 1 minute. Woo Hoo. Feel like my position was better too, although DH was out of the room so I had no one to pick holes in it!! 🤣

Still here, definitely want to continue, have just been slacking a bit over the weekend. I've been so tired. But back on it yesterday and today!

@AutisticLegoLover i just use my stopwatch and do what I can. It is too much pressure for me to have to use an app!!

Me too..
Made it to 50 seconds this evening!

Wohoo!

L1ttledrummergirl · 24/05/2023 23:26

Well done @halfpasteleven.

I managed 3 x 1 minute today, no pain, but dd walked in on one and said "get your bum down". Try again tomorrow. Grin

Sounds like your DD and my DH would get on great together!! 🤣

Done 2x30 secs and 1x 1 min. I'm exhausted today

OP posts:
L1ttledrummergirl · 25/05/2023 20:45

I started the day badly with a 40sec plank. I gave myself an hour and then did another 1min. I've since done another 2 at 1 min.

I asked dh to comment, his response was "your arse looks like everest". A bit high then Grin
Keeping my bum low and my back straight means my boobs are on the floor, to lift them off and keep my bum low, means arching my back. To keep straight means my bum is too high. I need to find the fine line between good form, and either pain, or not getting the most from them.
My shoulders are getting stronger anyway, and my stomach is more solid.

halfpasteleven · 25/05/2023 22:03

2 x 50 secs today.. also did over 18,000 steps so that'll do me!

AHugeTinyMistake · 25/05/2023 22:09

Day 24 on the app for me - it's gone crazy 😫

All of a sudden it's added in twice the number of long planks. I don't have the stamina for that!!!!! I was struggling with an extra 10 seconds a day 🤣

I've switched the settings to beginners, I think it's going to stay there until the end of the programme.

Feeling pretty pleased with myself though. Can't believe I've done 3 nearly 4 weeks. Definitely going to carry on.

Plankingplanks · 26/05/2023 20:01

3x45 seconds was all I could do this evening. I woke up at 5am FOR NO BLOODY REASON!! Fuming!!

OP posts:
halfpasteleven · 26/05/2023 22:12

I joined this thread on 27th April and I finally got to 1MINUTE!! this eve!
Did two to make sure!
Hope I can stay at it now..

@Plankingplanks
I've been waking up at 4/5/6 am for no reason either lately! Not the best of starts to the day!

L1ttledrummergirl · 27/05/2023 00:30

@halfpasteleven well done, that's fab. I'm still on a minute, but this week in the gym, I rowed my first 1000m. I think the planks are helping with that at least.Grin

halfpasteleven · 27/05/2023 22:01

Thanks @L1ttledrummergirl
1000m is very very impressive - well done!
Only managed 1min this eve but heh ho tomorrow is another day

L1ttledrummergirl · 28/05/2023 00:19

When I started off on the rowing machine, I struggled, my first goal was to keep my legs together and breath with the strokes for 3 minutes. Then I went to 6 minutes and was doing around 800m. I still do 6 mins but set myself a distance target. I'm going to set the machine 1 notch higher next week and go back to 6 minutes without worrying about distance, and build it back up to 1000m again.

Today/yesterday's my first plank collapsed at 40secs again, so I've done another 3 at 1 minute. I'm looking forward to my rest day tomorrow.

Plankingplanks · 28/05/2023 20:24

Took a day off yesterday. Back at it today!! 2mins in total

OCarumba · 28/05/2023 20:33

Up for it!

halfpasteleven · 28/05/2023 22:14

Only 40 seconds today but it's Sunday..
Back at it in earnest tomorrow.

L1ttledrummergirl · 29/05/2023 00:05

I had a moment this afternoon thinking that I had better crack on with my second pink of the day, then remembered that as it was Sunday, I hadn't done a first one. 🤣

I was very happy to have the days break. Back on yhem tomorrow though.

PaminaMozart · 29/05/2023 08:08

I'm late to this thread but wanted to point you all to the 3-minute Bowflex plank:

I have been doing this virtually every day for 4 years and my core is now so solid that i can do this:

Yes, that's 15 minutes of plank variations. Having a strong core makes all exercise - and walking and running?- so much easier.

Plankingplanks · 29/05/2023 21:55

Welcome @OCarumba

Ive done 2.mins in total today. It's been an exhausting weekend, so I've given myself a bit of slack. Back to it tomorrow.

I've done my 3x 1min ones. Dd put me to shame, her training today was a mile run, 100 pull ups, 200 press ups(or similar), 300 squats and another mile run.
I hope she never loses her fitness, it's a bugger to get back.

Plankingplanks · 30/05/2023 23:37

Just quickly got one in. Not feeling great today but I still did it.

OP posts:
L1ttledrummergirl · 31/05/2023 00:47

Well done @Plankingplanks, some days are definitely harder than others.
I did my 3x 1 min today and was heard telling dh that while I fricking hate the planks, it's really starting to show on my waist and bottom. I had a definite apron hanging which is starting to go, and there is some muscle there. I haven't had that in years.

Plankingplanks · 31/05/2023 08:24

@L1ttledrummergirl thats amazing. I definitely feel like my stomach is tighter and more defined. I'm having a determined effort this month to sort my weight out. I've put on a stone in the past 9 months. I don't even know how. The only thing that's changed is I'm exercising more, which you'd think would have the opposite effect. It's making me rather miserable to be honest. I cycled 60 miles at the weekend.... Somehow I've put on 3lb!

OP posts:
L1ttledrummergirl · 31/05/2023 13:25

I've been overweight for years, large boobs, the weight made me more balanced, but was always fit and healthy. Covid floored me.

I gained weight when I first joined the gym in February, dh kept insisting it was the new muscle mass (he's a good one), over the last 2 weeks I've started losing it though, and am back to my February weight. My next goal is back to my pre covid weight. My whole shape is changing though, even without the weight decreasing and I think I've dropped a dress size on my waist.

60 miles is awesome, the nearest I'm going to get to that is when we go to cornwall this year. We are planning to hire bikes and do the camel trail. Don't be disheartened if you can do that.
