I've just done W1 R1 so am at the beginning. Anyone else want running friend/s? A couple of rl friends fancy doing it but I bet there's people here that have been thinking about it like I did for a while?
I know there's plenty on MN already doing it but want to chat with newbies like myself. Spur each other on 🏃‍♀️👟👟

@bakewellbride you’ve done well to get so far! Just think, after this run you’ll be more or less half way through. Think how good you’ll feel afterwards (but don’t be too hard on yourself if you miss it!)

Motorcycleemptyness · 11/05/2023 22:54

I did it. I dragged myself onto a treadmill (for some reason I couldn’t face outside) and did week four run 1. I am very behind this week. Felt all the emotions, half the time I was like ‘this is easy I’m loving it’ and the other half I was internally screaming. Anyway; it wasn’t fast but it was done!

Motorcycleemptyness · 12/05/2023 06:37

@bakewellbride did you make it out? If so well done and if not then today is another day!

WeWereInParis · 12/05/2023 07:15

Just did W4R1. The 5 min runs nearly killed me! I will not manage 20 mins at the end of week 5.

beguilingeyes · 12/05/2023 07:32

@WeWereInParis you will. Trust the programme. It's quite miraculous how it works.
I'm more or less back to square one after a really horrible bout of vertigo. Plus I won't be able to run for a couple of weeks.
I'm going to go to Parkrun tomorrow and walk it.

SupremeCommanderServalan · 12/05/2023 09:12

That's week 3 done. I managed to slip out of the house before the defeatist inner me had woken up.

It seems to be the second run of each week that gets me mentally.

bakewellbride · 12/05/2023 12:46

@Motorcycleemptyness no I didn't! I was in my exercise clothes about to go and then my baby was really sick all over dh - 3 times! So that was the decision made for me, I stayed at home cleaning up sick and looking after dd. I was going to go today but now I'm unwell too. Just going to have to catch up again as soon as I can! How are u finding it? Xx

beguilingeyes · 12/05/2023 16:06

I've volunteered to be Parkwalker at our local Parkrun tomorrow. Might try to slip a couple of minutes of running along the way.

Vebrithien · 13/05/2023 06:52

W2R1 done!

Definitely got the post-run euphoria.

Can't believe I've let my 20's and 30's slip away and I find running 90 seconds a struggle. I don't want that to be the case anymore. Currently, the first run gets me really out of breath, but the later runs, I have such heavy, tired legs

I have done the same route each time, as I get a mixture of grass and pavement running, and although the last run has an incline, it means I finish on a plateau that overlooks my city. I've been taking a photo of the cityscape each day I've finished. Sort of a like a little trophy! Sounds silly, but I plan to stitch the photos together from over the weeks, to show the passing of time.

upandoutofbed · 13/05/2023 08:29

@Vebrithien what a motivational thing to do - I love that idea. And glad you've got the euphoria afterward - it makes it all worthwhile.

I just did w3r2 and my knees are still fine though my feet were a bit twingy today! I think it's my age (peri) and lack of condition, so just have to take it really slowly. On my non running days I've been doing gentle strength training to try build up muscle.

I just LOVE being out on the common near me though so I always motivate myself to start by saying I'll just go for a walk.

@beguilingeyes sorry to hear about your vertigo! I hope the park walk is fun today and that you're soon back running again.

Tartantop · 13/05/2023 10:15

I have just completed week1. I’m so pleased with myself for sticking to it for a week, I felt quite motivated. I’m dreading having to do longer runs but all I can do is try and keep pushing. Having a celebratory bacon sandwich and a cuppa now!

Flashinggreen · 14/05/2023 17:47

I completed week 3 today but I’ve started getting pain on the soles of my feet when I wake up, worse on the left. Got new trainers properly fitted at a running shop so not sure if it’s that… don’t know whether to go back to my old ones. New ones are same make and model as old ones. Pleased I’ve carried on but concerned this pain will continue.

Vebrithien · 15/05/2023 13:13

W2R2 done!

Tried just running on pavements today, as I couldn't run over the school field. Not sure if it'll make me ache more, certainly could feel the impact.

But, the runs felt easier!

DoINeedToDoThis · 15/05/2023 23:13

W5R1 done today - not sure how the 20 mins run will go down at the end of the week 🙈

upandoutofbed · 16/05/2023 08:02

@DoINeedToDoThis well done, running 20 minutes still feels beyond the realms of imagination for me!

Just completed the whole of week 3 for the second time, feet and knees still working, so hopefully I will start week 4 later this week.

DCINightingale · 16/05/2023 14:14

Hi all, been a while since I last posted but great to read how you have all been doing.

@DoINeedToDoThis the 20 min run is such a milestone, don't be too put off by the number. Add up how much you are running now, you're already so close! It just takes out the walking breaks but you will be able to do it. Just go steady.

@upandoutofbed congratulations on finishing W3 with feet and knees feeling ok! Super progress, I hope week 4 starts off well for you when you next go out!

W9R2 done for me today. A right old slog I must say. I am day 2 into giving up sugar and my head is feeling very foggy so I knew it would be a battle. Hopefully I'll have picked up a bit by the next run (my last one! - although not my actual last one, I do intend to keep running)

Vebrithien · 17/05/2023 07:08

W2R3 complete. My legs feel like they are made of lead today.

But, it was a beautiful morning to be out.

Smarties2 · 17/05/2023 10:19

I did W8R1 yesterday and managed to run for 33 minutes (can’t believe it - as at the start I struggled with one minute)…. However only ran 3.09 miles. Think that means it would take me 34 mins to run 3.1 miles/5k.

Those who have reached the end - could you run 5k in 30 mins?

DCINightingale · 17/05/2023 10:46

@Smarties2 I am one run away from the end and covered 4.2km yesterday in the 30 minutes.

Flashinggreen · 17/05/2023 11:46

What achievements. I did W4R1 today and it felt a real jump up. Went back to my old trainers in case the new ones are what’s causing the the pain along the soles of my feet. Week 8 feels so far away.

SupremeCommanderServalan · 19/05/2023 07:52

That's W4 done for me. Not any accompanying sense of achievement though, as I was hyper aware of just how slowly I was 'running'.

Smarties2 · 19/05/2023 08:09

I feel like this too, as I’m really slow, and a woman sped past me the other day (and she wasn’t going THAT fast…. Just a lot faster than me!).
I’m trying to think - distance first then speed!

bakewellbride · 19/05/2023 08:10

@SupremeCommanderServalan same here! So scared about week 5.

upandoutofbed · 19/05/2023 09:21

Well done everyone!!! Another one here going at snails pace, @SupremeCommanderServalan still a huge achievement though, to come from nothing in just a few weeks.

Just finished w4r1 and wow, that felt like a step up! Felt really good when Laura told me I had run 16 minutes in total though. I nearly didn't go this morning, so glad I made myself.

DoINeedToDoThis · 19/05/2023 13:34

It's the big one for me tomorrow - W5R3! 😲
