I've just done W1 R1 so am at the beginning. Anyone else want running friend/s? A couple of rl friends fancy doing it but I bet there's people here that have been thinking about it like I did for a while?
I know there's plenty on MN already doing it but want to chat with newbies like myself. Spur each other on 🏃‍♀️👟👟

I am thinking of starting. I have a bad cold so won't be for a few days but will come here and update. Hopefully motivates me to keep up with others.

Well done for starting 👏

Oodieandacuppatonightplease · 03/04/2023 17:45

well done! They say starting is the biggest step. 🏃‍♂️

I’m on week 2. Can I join you?

CuriousMama · 03/04/2023 17:53

Great 👍
Yes Oodie pop in for a calf rub 🙂

Starting week 3 today, going ok but I suspect I’m going too slowly.
how are you, Ellie and Curious?

Oodieandacuppatonightplease · 05/04/2023 08:02

Running too slowly, not going!

Run leader here ! It’s excellent news that you’re going really slowly. I’ve taken about 500 runners through c25k with my running club and spend most of my time telling them to slow down, it’s not school sports day ! You are focusing on developing stamina first and the speed will come naturally, a gentle plod so that you can finish the run or walk is exact what you need.

Thank you! Plod sums me up perfectly 🤣. Just about to pull on this trainers…
im using a treadmill, any thoughts on that, is it ok? Not brave enough to plod in public just yet!

Lazydazey · 05/04/2023 08:29

Treadmill is absolutely fine, but I really encourage you to get outside if you can .. the time goes faster as you distract yourself by looking at gardens or running to the next lampost. Lots of people say they don’t want to be seen outside especially in Lycra , but the truth is others don’t care , and if they do look at you then they are much more likely to be thinking ‘good on her’ or ‘I wish I could do that’ than anything else.

Oodieandacuppatonightplease · 05/04/2023 08:34

Yes, I can see where you’re coming from, thank you! It’s not the Lycra so much but the pathetic running with me 😞

Lazydazey · 05/04/2023 08:42

@Oodieandacuppatonightplease seriously, be proud of what you’re doing , any running is amazing so don’t underestimate yourself. You’re lapping those on the sofa ! Running is a community regardless of speed.

Takeittotheboss · 05/04/2023 08:52

Can I join please?
Previously done c25k twice. Enjoyed it both times but somehow managed to stop running shortly after completing it.
Now older, fatter and distinctly less fit. Need to get back to it, though put off by partner who used to adamantly claim running wasn't for him, but joined in during later lockdown and now is very enthusiastic and fit! Feel intimidated.

Hi, it’s not my thread but I’ll say hello and welcome 😄 I’m also a repeat c25k er although only finished it once. I do think it’s easier if you’ve done it before so go for it!!!

Takeittotheboss · 05/04/2023 10:37

Thanks @Oodieandacuppatonightplease
Off on holiday until end of next week , so it will be after that. But determined (even if I hide it for a bit from the partner😶)

DCINightingale · 05/04/2023 11:34

Hey everyone. Hoping it's ok to join. I started this a few weeks ago. I'm about to start week 4 but have been away for a few days and am struggling to get back into the groove. Aiming to go out at lunchtime.

I am definitely a plodder, it feels like I walk faster than I run, but slowly slowly I am finding I can run a little bit longer before I get knackered. I give huge respect to anyone who gets their trainers on and just gives it a go, we all have to start somewhere and the key is to start. Not to just perpetually think about starting.

CuriousMama · 05/04/2023 13:37

Hi all. I'm away at a hotel until Friday. Luckily the hotel has a treadmill in the gym. Wet weather so am glad of that.

I agree with slow wins the race. I'm not going to overdo it as I'll just end up giving up. Or getting injured.

CuriousMama · 05/04/2023 20:42

Did well on the treadmill. I'll go on it again Fri morning before we leave.

W4R2 done today. I was practically grinding to a halt on the last 5 minute run when the lady came on to tell me I was halfway through and still had 2 1/2 mins to go. Whilst I was thinking wtf a runner appeared round the corner and was heading towards me and it's amazing how much that motivated me to keep going. Aiming to do last run of the week on Sunday. Then to see what week 5 holds, eek!

Well done! It’s a good feeling afterwards, isn’t it. and maybe you’ve done today and are in the heady heights of week 5 already.
I’m hoping to finish week 3 today, although I’ve realised my Fitbit counts my ‘runs’ as a walk so I fear I’m even ploddier than I suspected.
have just ordered a weighted hula hoop to use in front of the tv 🤣

DCINightingale · 09/04/2023 11:54

Yep last run of week 4 done this morning. It was an absolute slog. Will do the first one of week 5 at lunchtime tuesday. I find lunchtime easier physically than first thing, it's difficult to get going when everything is cold. Prefer the quiet of the mornings though.

I am definitely a fellow plodder. It's when I do exactly the same run and exactly the same route and still have further left to walk back at the end, I know I'm getting slower!

Good luck finishing week 3 today.

CuriousMama · 09/04/2023 16:12

I thought I'd posted? Signal is awful here though at work. I managed to do w1 r3 though. Walking back and forth and running on the spot. Not the same as running along the coast but I managed to get out of breath.

Well done everyone.

Oodieandacuppatonightplease · 10/04/2023 09:23

well done to all you getting on with it, I’m not enjoying a second!

W3R3 just done and I hated it. I remember now why I’ve often given up on week 4 😞

enjoy your bank holiday Monday if you’re not working, or equally if you are.

DCINightingale · 10/04/2023 15:51

@Oodieandacuppatonightplease well done for getting through the run even though you didn't enjoy it. Is there a possible alternative you may enjoy more?

I dont think I enjoy doing it, but I do feel a sense of accomplishment afterwards. I would love to be able to run 5k, so I'm persevering as it has become increasingly apparent just sitting there wishing I could do it doesn't actually translate into actual ability. I'm also enjoying carving out that 30 mins of time just for me to get out of the house alone.

Ellie1015 · 10/04/2023 16:58

Wk1 R1 done!! I really couldn't be bothered but so glad I got started. It is true getting over the doorstep is the hardest bit.

Well done everyone. 👏

Amazing well done! How did you find it? It's not so bad once you are out is it, it's just getting going that is tough. When are you planning doing R2?
