I've just done W1 R1 so am at the beginning. Anyone else want running friend/s? A couple of rl friends fancy doing it but I bet there's people here that have been thinking about it like I did for a while?
I know there's plenty on MN already doing it but want to chat with newbies like myself. Spur each other on 🏃‍♀️👟👟

Thanks so much @morelippy @Motorcycleemptyness Halo

morelippy · 07/05/2023 14:45

Finished week 4 this morning. Was really hard going, my legs felt heavy and I was very out of breath. So much harder than last time I did it, which was only at the end of last year

2 months doing very little waiting for a leg injury to heal has set me back soooo far

Motorcycleemptyness · 07/05/2023 14:51

Finished week 3 this morning on a treadmill. I found it quite hard this week. I will start week 4 (but maybe repeat week 3 if I find it too hard). I’m going for consistency and steadiness this time! I also did a spin class this morning.

I’m proud I’ve got this far. Now relaxing on the sofa with a midday glass of wine because it’s a bank holiday. It’s called balance, right?

Flashinggreen · 07/05/2023 20:00

Congratulations @bailarbailar
week 9 seems a long long way away. I’ve completed week 2, tried to avoid running up hills today but realised very difficult round where I live!

Tockomtele · 08/05/2023 06:48

Can I join, please? I've done my first run on Saturday. Today: my legs are achy.
I used to run before having children and I'm not sure I'll be able to do it long-term but I missed the fresh air and the 'alone time' so much.

Vebrithien · 08/05/2023 07:38

I'd like to join in, as well.

Same as @Tockomtele, I did W1R1 on Saturday, and have just done W1R2.

Am coming to this as a complete beginner, haven't run willingly since I left school nearly 20 years ago!

I'm obese (although have lost 10kg, and am within 7 kg of just being overweight), and this is the first time I've owned trainers in about 8 years!

DCINightingale · 08/05/2023 14:57

Welcome welcome everyone just starting out! Nice to have more people on the thread.

@bailarbailar congratulations! That's fantastic, you should be very pleased with yourself

W8R3 for me today. I'd not been out since Wednesday as my knee felt pretty dodgy so I had some more days off until it felt totally ok again. Felt quite good today though, I managed the 28 mins and even managed a much quicker pace for the last 5 minutes which I find far more satisfying than shuffling along.

Motorcycleemptyness · 08/05/2023 15:37

Welcome newbies! Alarm is set for 5am for tomorrow for week 4 run 1. Eeek. It’s the only time I can squeeze it in tomorrow as I’ve got a full on day at work and a spin class to get through as well. Wishe me luck!

morelippy · 08/05/2023 16:12

Hi everyone..

I was going to go for at least a walk today but have wimped out due to rain. Will try harder tomorrow.

Well done to all those who are getting out there. Sometimes putting your kit on and leaving the house is the hardest bit 💪

bakewellbride · 08/05/2023 16:57

@Motorcycleemptyness I'm doing W4R1 tomorrow too but not that early - well done! Good luck x

Vebrithien · 10/05/2023 06:56

Just finished W1R3! Whoop whoop!

Felt easier than the first one, but I also had two of the 60 second runs on inclines. They were HARD

But I did it 😀

Am thinking I will now have 2 rest days, to get me back to the same days for W2. Might have just a brisk walk on Friday.

upandoutofbed · 10/05/2023 08:21

Hi, lovely to see lots of new people on this thread. I'm back after a 2 week break after my knees literally seemed to cave in! I've just tentatively tried w3r1 again and all seemed to go okay 🤞. One step at a time!

SupremeCommanderServalan · 10/05/2023 10:25

I did W3R2 this morning, and was in my head for every step. I usually manage to zone out around half way through, but it was a struggle this morning for some reason, with my brain screaming at me to give up the whole time. Hopefully Fridays planned R3 goes better.

Tartantop · 10/05/2023 13:22

Hi all I completed W1R1 yesterday and found it ok. I’m a bit achey today but that could also be the aqua fit class I done on Monday.

Does anyone have any recommendations for podcasts I could listen to during my run? I think this could help with zoning out and not focusing so much on the running itself.

On your rest days, what do you do? I’d like to really improve my fitness and lose weight but don’t want to overdo it. Do you think ensuring I’m walking 10k steps on my rest days would be enough to get my fitness up and lose weight? (Embarrassingly I only do around 5-7k steps a day at the minute!).

DCINightingale · 10/05/2023 15:45

W9R1 done today. 30 minutes, at last! I wont be going out again until next week as I have a busy weekend and don't want a dodgy knee for it, but hopefully I will complete the whole thing by the end of next week.

@SupremeCommanderServalan it's a grind when you feel like that isn't it. Well done for keeping going though, the big battle is the mental one in your head so to keep pushing forward is a real win.

@Tartantop well done for starting. I'm still on music at the moment so if you find some good podcasts please share! I do find where I run to make a big difference. So running on country lanes I can't stand, it feels very boring, I much prefer going through the village so I can look at peoples gardens and see what's what. Odd because if I go for a walk it's the opposite and love a nice remote walk down tiny roads

That’s fantastic, well done on nearly completing it. Hopefully in 9 weeks time or so I’ll be updating a thread saying I’ve completed it!

How have you found it overall?

bailarbailar · 10/05/2023 19:07

Thank you @DCINightingale and well done to you too!
Another 5Km for me just now, a whole 90s faster than the first one and also felt a lot easier (although not easy by any means)!!
Will keep going with 5Km for a while before trying to increase
Keep going everyone, it really does work!

DoINeedToDoThis · 10/05/2023 20:25

Finished W4 today, onto the dreaded W5 next time! Got bloody soaked today as well 🙄

Smarties2 · 10/05/2023 20:53

Can I join too? I ran W7R1 this morning, and found it so HARD.

Does anyone else have days where for no apparent reason, it is just…. harder?

Im hoping it might just be tiredness. Also found one of my shins has been hurting a bit and am desperate not to get injured as I’ve been managing to stick to the plan (despite being so unfit at the start).

It’s so good to see those who have completed (hoping that will be me!)

Motorcycleemptyness · 10/05/2023 21:16

I haven’t been out at all this week. Work is v stressful and I’ve lost all motivation. Words of wisdom to push me through, anyone? I was SO keen up til now.

morelippy · 10/05/2023 21:31

@Motorcycleemptyness I haven't either. Lots of other things going on. What works for me when I feel like this is
Put your kit out the night before if you run in the morning and just put it on. Once it's on it's easier.
Don't over think it.
Have something nice ready for when you get back.
Think about the end, not the doing.

Don't give up now. Think about how good it is to finish it.

You can do it.

Notanothernewname · 10/05/2023 21:36

I downloaded the app the other day and now just need to find time in my week between work and the gym. I'm thinking 4 days in the gym (1 is a circuits class) then this for 3 days but I just don't know how to schedule my week.

I'm not a runner, but I did run during lockdown when the gyms were shut and I loved being outside and walking just isn't doing it at the moment.

A friend told me- if you pick up your trainers and get outside you are already doing better than when you were sitting on the couch, even if you end up walking most of it - it’s a win. That took the pressure off for me, and I stopped thinking about failing and just focussed on getting outside.

Tartantop · 11/05/2023 17:35

Just completed W1R2 and it was nice to do it in the sun! I had some pains in my calves where they felt quite tight and achey but hopefully some stretching sorts that.

I can’t possibly imagine running for longer than 60 seconds at a time, let alone 20 mins 😂

bakewellbride · 11/05/2023 18:32

I need to do W4R2 once kids asleep but I just had such a rough night with the baby last night and she had an awful day today too. I'm so tired! Anyone fancy giving me a kick up the bum?
