I've just done W1 R1 so am at the beginning. Anyone else want running friend/s? A couple of rl friends fancy doing it but I bet there's people here that have been thinking about it like I did for a while?
I know there's plenty on MN already doing it but want to chat with newbies like myself. Spur each other on 🏃‍♀️👟👟

@bailarbailar fantastic well done!

Just done W8R1, managed just over 4km in the 28 mins so I'm getting faster, maybe 5k could be possible in the 30 mins but we shall see. Feeling good though. Good luck everyone for your next runs. @Pollydollydoodle hope you manage to start today!

Pollydollydoodle · 01/05/2023 21:18

Ok so 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ I'm blaming the bank holiday!!!! Day off and family time. Definitely this week! You MNs are holding me to account now so I have to! Px

Ellie1015 · 01/05/2023 21:20

Fell away from it last week. I had completed wk2 but didn't stsrt wk 3. Been 9 days but back out today. Did wk 2 r3 again, was ok, feel much better for getting back on track.

Motorcycleemptyness · 01/05/2023 22:01

Checking in to say I’m starting week 3 tomorrow - holding myself accountable! Might have to be a treadmill run before my spin class but hoping to run outside again on weds or thursday.

morelippy · 02/05/2023 11:34

Did week 4 run 2 this morning. Was hoping to only repeat 2 of this week but my legs were like lead and the one that's recovering felt a bit sore too. So I'll give it a couple of days rest and repeat again towards the end of the week.

Feeling a bit despondent but not ready to give in yet.

Hello everyone. I’ve lost track of whether it’s this thread or another I’ve posted on in the past. I hope you don’t mind me joining you.

After a bit of a break I repeated W2R3 today. It felt good. I just need a bit of consistency which I am struggling with.

APurpleSquirrel · 02/05/2023 19:03

So I didn't do any runs over the long weekend as I was away & doing plenty of other exercise; but went out today & did W1R2 again (second time) & this time managed 5mins running out of the 8. Managed to mess up the app by putting in my pocket whilst active & obviously the heat of my thigh must have pressed the pause button! Blush Thought it seemed a very long brisk walk... Anyway, super pleased I ran for 5 mins (last time was 2.5mins) so aiming for 6 mins tomorrow. But that 5 min felt very long & plodding!

Motorcycleemptyness · 02/05/2023 19:28

I did week 3 run 1 today, and a spin class after. It was on a treadmill for time management reasons but I aim to get back outside on Thursday. I quite enjoyed it and it didn’t feel as horrible as week 1 run 1 which makes me feel very good when I think about it!
well done to everyone plodding along out there, keep going! I am mentally cheering you all on.

DCINightingale · 03/05/2023 15:24

W8R2 for me today. Didn't cover as much ground as the first run this week but pleased I managed to keep going for 28 minutes. Had a horrible stitch from about 5 minutes in which definitely hampered me.

Well done everyone for keeping going!

bailarbailar · 03/05/2023 18:56

W9R2!! Only one run to go! Didn't go as far as the previous run as hit leak traffic and had to cross roads etc. also hit two massive hills as went a different route and wasn't expecting them - managed one but turned around half way up the second and ran down it haha!!
Will keep going out 3 x per week to build up to 5Km

Motorcycleemptyness · 03/05/2023 22:47

@bailarbailar nice work! How are you feeling about completing the programme? I am really hoping to get into a space where I don’t wish the time away when I’m running. I would LOVE to enjoy running as much as I enjoy spin classes, as I want my motivation to remain high (right now my motivation is for how good it feels when I stop rather than enjoying the run for the sake of the run, iyswim?). Are you there yet? (Please give me hope!)

Oodieandacuppatonightplease · 04/05/2023 15:26

W6r2 before work this morning, still struggling so might repeat that one a couple of times more. Like @Motorcycleemptyness i really want to start enjoying it, I just feel rubbish each time. Must keep going!!!

Motorcycleemptyness · 04/05/2023 17:36

Week 3 run 2 completed today! I won’t lie, I hated every second of it today. It was quite hot and I had a shit day. I am so glad I went out and did it though as it would have been much easier to choose the couch today. I feel great now with all the feel good endorphins fizzing around.

Keep on keeping on guys! ❤️

bailarbailar · 04/05/2023 18:22

Well done @Motorcycleemptyness
I've completed the programme before but in 2017 when I felt a lot younger!! I got up to half marathons/training for the marathon before I basically stopped running over night in the first lockdown... just picking it up again now lol
So at 30mins I find the first 5 the worst, minutes 5-25 I enjoy then the last few feel like a slog.
Last time I found that this pattern basically increased with distance e.g when doing 10Km or 15/20km I hated the first 5Km but as long as I stuck with it through the first but then I ended up getting into it and genuinely enjoying it!
Sorry that was a long answer, I'm sure it's different for everyone!

Motorcycleemptyness · 04/05/2023 20:27

@bailarbailar thank you for replying! I have ALL the emotions (mostly desperation to stop lol) when I’m running so I’m just going to ride them out I guess. It feels great after though so that’s enough for now.

DoINeedToDoThis · 04/05/2023 21:15

After an horrendous stomach bug hit our house over BH weekend, I finally managed to get out to do W4R1 this afternoon. Those 5 min runs were loooooooong!

morelippy · 04/05/2023 22:17

Evening all... I've done a long (8k) brisk walk today because my leg (I think it's my hamstring) is feeling a bit dodgy and I was too worried about running and making it worse. So fed up with it.

I'll do another week 4 run on Saturday perhaps, if the weather is ok (and I do want to watch the coronation coverage).

Never thought I'd be 'out injured'. Shouldn't be so blasé.... 🙁

APurpleSquirrel · 05/05/2023 19:04

Well done everyone!

I managed 6 mins of running on Wednesday evening, but my calf was feeling it yesterday so had a rest day & have gone out again today - decided to stick to 5mins running in total & get used to that before escalating it up a min. Calf is still tender so have had a shower slathered on deep heat.
Will see how I feel tomorrow but weather is meant to be awful tomorrow so might wait till Sunday.

CarpeDiem83 · 05/05/2023 19:11

Hello, can I join?

I've started C25K several times in the past but only completed it once, after which I did stick with running for a bit but that was a while ago now!

I'm currently up to W4R2 and really feeling the step up this week, had to take a break in one of the 5 min runs so might need to repeat this week. My five year old DD is desperate to come on a run with mummy so I expect at some point this weekend I'll suffer the indignity of her leaving me for dust 🤣

Motorcycleemptyness · 05/05/2023 20:18

Welcome @CarpeDiem83 ! I am going for a run with my brother tomorrow (who is actually a runner) so I’m hoping that it motivates me (I’ll do my c25k business while he strolls along next to me probably lol!) rather than destroys me.

WeWereInParis · 06/05/2023 07:27

Just did W3R1, with the 3 min runs, and almost died. In fairness DH and I did a fairly hilly hike yesterday so I was a bit sore before I even started which didn't help!

beguilingeyes · 06/05/2023 08:15

I'd got up to the dreaded W5R3 and then I got Vertigo. I've spent a week in bed unable to move so I'm going to go back a couple of weeks..when I feel up to it.

bailarbailar · 06/05/2023 09:31

I did it!! Completed t he programme as busy did W9R3. I didn't do 5Km in 30mins so I kept going. Did the full distance in 36mims 45s lol. I used to regularly run it in 35 so probably runntiny at my "normal" speed now. Will do it a few more times and then head over to 5-10Km thread
Keep going everyone. I know everyone says this but if I can do it anyone can

Motorcycleemptyness · 06/05/2023 11:26

@bailarbailar biggest round of applause for you!!!

morelippy · 06/05/2023 12:05
