Anyone wanting to start C25K and needing motivation?

I've just done W1 R1 so am at the beginning. Anyone else want running friend/s? A couple of rl friends fancy doing it but I bet there's people here that have been thinking about it like I did for a while?
I know there's plenty on MN already doing it but want to chat with newbies like myself. Spur each other on 🏃‍♀️👟👟

Whoop well done @thanksamillion 🙌. How are you feeling today?

I completely get how difficult it is to balance everything so as not to overdo it and crash, especially balancing with other life commitments. It's such a fine line, but really hoping C25K is gentle enough for us. I was significantly more tired after the first run but allowed myself more rest time and bounced back in time for the second one and felt fine after that. Just finished W1R3 today - hooray, first week completed!

Will be more challenging next week fitting in with work and school runs. @DoINeedToDoThis I'm glad those 90 second runs weren't too much as I will be doing that next and am a bit nervous!

@DCINightingale well done, what an achievement! I remember that run being such a huge milestone and feeling that I'd finally cracked it!

W7R2 for me today! Should've been on Friday but I wasn't well. Now I feel like I'm playing catch up with my schedule as like others I'm limited by household routine so if I didn't go this morning I wouldn't get out til Wednesday.
Well done everyone and keep going

That’s amazing, well done! How did you find it? Nearly there now!

great to hear how everyone is sticking at it and progressing. I’ve just done w4r1 after quite a break due to hurting my back and then handily ‘forgetting’ to restart. I couldn’t even make myself open this thread as I felt so guilty.

Hope the return to normality this week for those that have had a break doesn’t hinder efforts. Looking forward to hearing all your news.

Wk2 R1 just done. Only slightly longer runs but i felt the difference. Managed not to stop though so very pleased.

Imaginging that wk5 20 min run seems impossible at the minute, well done to those who have got there and done it.

thanksamillion · 17/04/2023 17:32

Hmm maybe back to the drawing board for me. I felt OK yesterday but had a headache all morning today which is a fatigue symptom for me and had to leave work early because it was so bad.
I did have a fairly busy weekend so now I have to try and work out if that was the cause or the running. Definitely no running today and I'll see how I feel tomorrow. Long Covid is very frustrating!

Hope you feel better soon 💐 I'm going long distance walking tomorrow so I might start again when back? I'll probably start an absolute beginners thread?

Aw that's tough @thanksamillion really hope you're feeling better today. LC, the gift that keeps on giving. Please have hope though, we will get there when the time is right.

I'm still fingers crossed doing okay. Ellie1015 we are at a similar level, just completed w2r1. Feeling very pleased with myself as I had to get up extra early to fit it in. I think the trick for me is to run REALLY slowly 😊.

Ellie1015 · 18/04/2023 08:25

Well done @upandoutofbed getting out of the door is still the hardest but for me. Doing it early is very impressive. My next run is tomorrow, but will be tricky to fit in between kids after school activities. I might try going early.

@thanksamillion hope you feeling better soon.

DCINightingale · 18/04/2023 09:58

Morning everyone. How are you feeling this morning @thanksamillion ?

Well done for getting up early @upandoutofbed I find early ones a struggle to get going but it feels nice going into the rest of the day knowing that you've already achieved something. I've been doing one early run each week, one on the weekends and one during lunch hour when I'm WFH. I'm planning on a lunchtime run today W6R1. Looking forward to trying to get a little bit faster.

DCINightingale · 18/04/2023 13:40

Ha so naive! "Looking forward to trying to get a bit faster" buoyed with self confidence from the 20 minute run on Saturday I set off way to fast thinking that it was only 5 minutes and absolutely exhausted myself. The following 8 and 5 minute stints were tough going. Next time I need to have in my head that it's not the individual stints but the whole lot combined I have to pace myself for. I also seemed to be running into the wind no matter which direction I pointed which was a pain!

Oh well lesson learned at least you kept running. Well done. I will keep this in mind when i get to that point!

thanksamillion · 18/04/2023 19:19

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I'm feeling a bit better today and made it through work at least! Think I'll rest this week and then maybe try W1R1 again but just walking it - fast on the runs and slowly on the walk sections.
I will get there but it's a long road!

Don’t push yourself, I know so many people that are suffering at the moment so take it easy and think about c25k when you’re up to it.

well done for keeping going everyone, we can do it!!! Although I’m still hating every minute but will try to stick at it and get past week four which us often my stumbling block.

DCINightingale · 20/04/2023 07:26

Morning everyone! How are we all doing the last day or so?

W6R2 done this morning. Did a little better at pacing but was still completely knackered right at the end. It's when you think the announcer has forgotten to tell you to stop running, and she comes on saying "just 60 seconds to go". Happens to me everytime, and I always think WTF!

upandoutofbed · 20/04/2023 07:46

Hi all! Hope everyone's week is going well.

Well done with your pacing @DCINightingale I can't even imagine being that far along yet!

W2R2 just done. Felt very happy and free out there today - bluebells, blue skies and a nostalgic 90s playlist. Now back to the daily grind!

Ellie1015 · 20/04/2023 08:43

Well done both of you.

I completely wk2 r2 yesterday, it was tough but not as tough as the first time. Next run due tomorrow.

teethiepegs · 20/04/2023 09:24

Hello! Can I jump on?

I'm returning to running after being hit by a drug driver and having some very serious injuries just before Christmas. Prior to the accident I was an ultrarunner - but now I'm managing three lots of run seven minutes walk three. I've also put on a ton of weight!

I'm not doing one of the apps, I'll just shorten my walking intervals until I get there- because all of the apps annoy me!

bailarbailar · 20/04/2023 13:31

Finally got out for W7R3! Very delayed so now my careful schedule in my diary is all off ha ha
Still, another week done. Was sunny today so quite warm but also v windy and I am way deemed to be running into it whichever direction I took...
keep going all!

upandoutofbed · 20/04/2023 18:49

Hi @teethiepegs 👋 yes do join us. Sorry to read all that all that you've been through, I can't imagine how distressing and life changing that must have been. Amazing that you are back running again and already doing 7 minute runs. I too have put on a lot of weight since last running and I can really feel it - I feel very heavy and creaky! I hope you can get back to your ultra running.

@bailarbailar great, another week ticked off!

DoINeedToDoThis · 20/04/2023 20:41

Finished Wk2 today. Onto what seems easier of only 25 min sessions in Wk3, until you remember you have to do 3 minutes running 🙈

WeWereInParis · 20/04/2023 21:44

Can I join? I'm planning on starting tomorrow (although I've been saying that for a week!). I've done it before, although never beyond about week 4.

APurpleSquirrel · 21/04/2023 14:17

Can I join?
I started yesterday, but am taking it ultra slow, I'll be repeating W1 for a while until I can get up to doing all the runs in each session.
I tried C25K a few years ago but had to stop in W2 as I ended up with bursitis in my knee & completely buggered up my last few weeks of mat leave because of it. The physio recommended retrying but much slower with a focus on walking to start, so that's what I'm doing. I'm brisk walking for almost all of it with 1 10-20sec run in there somewhere.
Well done to everyone else giving this a go.

DCINightingale · 21/04/2023 15:45

Welcome everyone! @WeWereInParis have you managed to coax yourself out to start today? I think getting out of the door can be half the mental battle!

I'll be out again tomorrow morning for W6R3, my second "big run". Hopefully I manage to pace myself a bit better than I've managed so far this week.

Ellie1015 · 21/04/2023 21:38

I dragged myself out for wk2 r3. Love the feeling afterwards. I still struggled with the last run though, so not sure i will manage the 3 min run next week.

Would anyone recommend repeating week 2? Or worth giving wk3 a try and then decide?

DCINightingale · 21/04/2023 21:58

@Ellie1015 well done for finishing week 2! I feel like if you can manage to run for the whole time it says to run for, no matter how exhausted, then it is worth progressing. If you feel uncomfortable at all then repeating may be beneficial, but I've been of the opinion if I can make it through all the running times, no matter how slowly and ploddy, then to trust the process and keep going.
