I’ve started running again after a long break due to my ulcerative colitis. Went out 3x last week, only 25 minutes but it felt so good!

@emummy

Hope all that gluten work pays off *@giraffeski*. Beautiful day here, still cold & a bit breezy. Ran up a local hill, views a bit hazy at the top but lovely. Still some snow & ice to keep things interesting!

The glute was twinging all round my run today, I think it's a good thing as i'm obvs now using the correct muscle instead of defaulting to my hamstring on that side but it made my tempo run this afternoon hard work and I couldn't maintain my pace. I was knackered anyway as I'd been up early plaiting the bloody pony's mane and washing its tail as Dd had a dressage test this morning So could have been that but more likely the rogue glute. More work to do!

Aha, found you! I had a lovely week away but it was nice to get back to running yesterday. A beautiful sunny day with leaves budding and spring flowers out. February hasn't been a good month and I really need to get back into my training programme if I'm to do this 30k trail run in May!

Newrunner29 · 28/02/2022 08:33

Can I ask what the numbers are bottom of eat post is please?

UnaOfStormhold · 28/02/2022 08:42

@Newrunner29 it's our cumulative mileage for the month, so I added the 7.2 miles I did yesterday to the last total posted (in this case by Giraffeski). We'll start a new count tomorrow for March.

emummy · 28/02/2022 09:35

Well done for getting back out @User1412, hope the UC behaves itself and you can keep going.

Sorry I’ve been so rubbish but thought I’d at least add the rest of my February miles. Haven’t been that many as had a week of leave (walking so no running this time)
with the mandatory manic week of work beforehand.

Did another orienteering event and moved up a few places. Also… my goal for this year to get a sub 45 min 10km which I unexpectedly did as part of a hilly road race yesterday.

I now hurt in weird places

61 miles to add (but my phone is being weird so I can’t scroll up)

You’re all doing so well. After weeks of kids with covid I now have covid 😩

Sub 45 10k on a hilly course is great, well done! Thanks
Amaura · 01/03/2022 07:33

Thanks @giraffeski

Have now read through the thread, there’s been some good running the past few weeks. The wind was a bit rubbish wasn’t it.

I’ve restarted intervals but still haven’t made myself restart workouts. Need to select a day/time in the week and go for it. Struggling a little with the idea of less mileage even though I don’t want to do ultras this year. I knew emotionally it would be a harder transition than the physical one.

emummy · 01/03/2022 08:25

Well done @Amaura!
@Mostlyjustrunning me too! Tested positive this morning after a dreadful night. Feel crap, just like a bad cold though. Have had to cancel a training course and a medical procedure I had booked. Hope you are not too unwell and have someone to take care of you

Wow, congratulations Amaura on the sub 45 10k, especially on a hilly course! That's actually one of my goals for the year (current plan is 19 miler in May, recover, do 5k training for 10 weeks or so and try to get sub 23), recover, then probably focus on 10k training towards the end of the year.

Mostlyjustrunning · 01/03/2022 09:16

Sorry to hear it’s got you too @emummy. Hope you feel better soon. I do have it mildly but it’s awful- feel like I’ve been hit by a bus!
I do feel the quality of care I’m receiving is substandard to the care I provided to others 😆

LuckyLuckyWoman · 01/03/2022 09:30

Can anyone offer any tips on how to get my running mojo back?

Was running around 5-10k three times a week and now can't run a step

I'm sure it's more mental than physical, but how do I get myself to believe I can do it and then actually get out there and do it?

Amaura · 01/03/2022 10:22

It took me until week 4 to be up to running normally again after COVID so be sensible and go easy on yourselves when you’re well again

Amaura · 01/03/2022 10:24

@LuckyLuckyWoman for me it’s running with people, or telling myself to just walk/run one mile and see how I feel. Trick yourself to getting out the door and rope family members in to hold you to account to. My husband will say to me ‘shouldn’t you be getting ready now’ and that guilts me into getting changed

Amaura · 01/03/2022 10:26

Also what helped me, is that the calorie burn between walking 5km and running it is almost the same (obviously it just takes longer), so it doesn’t matter how slow you run or how much you walk it.

Mostlyjustrunning · 01/03/2022 10:29

Thank you @Amaura I can imagine it’s one of these things that if you over do it too soon it sets you right back.

For me it’s exploring different places. Also keep it slow and was, walk loads. One of my friends signs up for virtual challenges. I saw one for raising money for Ukraine which would be good.
Mostlyjustrunning · 01/03/2022 10:32

Name change fail!

emummy · 01/03/2022 10:32

I agree about the care quality @Mostlyjustrunning! I feel I shouldn’t have to text a list of stuff!
@LuckyLuckyWoman I agree with just go out & try 10 minutes, no pressure to do more. Also are there any new routes you could try? Switch to trails if you usually do road or vice versa? Sign up for fun or scenic event? Or maybe just have a break and do something else instead?

emummy · 01/03/2022 14:32
