Does anyone fancy a C25K thread, starting on 2nd or 3rd Jan?

I'd love to get back into running now that I've fully recovered from an injury. No one I know wants to do it with me Grin so I think I'll download C25K and start in Jan.

Anyone know which is the best app? Last time I tried, the app kept getting ads on it which wrecked the timings. I want to avoid that if possible.

Any takers?

Well done everyone who is on track with the programme.

I've had a very busy week and only done one run so far. Got to get one in tomorrow and one on Sunday to stay on track.

@IDKAYBIF32

Run 5 of week 1 done. Absolutely was not feeling it at the start and wanted to stop after 2nd run, but made myself finish it and started to enjoy it by run 6. I ran for as long as I could for the last run and managed 2 minutes before I felt like I couldn't go on/breathe Grin.

It's amazing how much of it is psychological, one of my ex boyfriends was very into running, and said that you have to think about why you want to stop: is it legs, lungs or head? Today was definitely a bit of head at the start, and lungs towards the end Grin.

@PurpleDaisies

I can't wait to get to week 5, well done! What are you thinking of treating yourself to?

That's really interesting about why you want to stop. Will think about that on the next run.

Pretty sure it's my feet. I had really severe plantar fasciitis and could barely walk a couple of years ago, so I keep getting scared that it will come back, even though I've lost a stone and got a fair bit fitter since then. On every run I am thinking about the foot that had the injury and whether it feels OK.

How is anyone running in this frost/ ice?? I got myself up early, walked round the corner and slid around the pavement.. ended up doing circuits of the (not big) garden. Gutted! May have to repeat w2 r2..

I'm heading for the woods. Uneven but the ground under the ice is squelchy from last week's rain, so it gives a bit and doesn;t stay too slippery. Do you have any muddy paths near you with a top layer of frost?

Wk 2 run 3 complete.

The frost is beautiful but awful to try and dodge, ended up going down to the local sports field and running there which was boring but safer.

I have had quite a few other runners say hello to me when we pass which is so lovely, Linda little community!

hivemindneeded · 14/01/2022 11:25

Week 2 Run 2 done.

I did it straight after bootcamp and just ran around the sports field and woodland area then ran home.

The frost is beautiful but tricky to run on, isn't it? The pavements are really slippery which makes my lower back tense up. I found the grass and woodland paths safer to run on but slower as they are uneven and you sink in a lot - less springy. Had a long salt bath afterwards as a reward..

Better get to work now. Grin

I’m taking an extra rest day today and will brave the frost tomorrow. I feel like I’ve got a cold on the way and I want to give myself the best chance of getting through the 20minute beast this week.
Well done to the rosette winners. I’m hoping I’ll get mine tomorrow.

Lupinspotato · 14/01/2022 11:49

Can I join in?

I have completed c25k before and was running 10k until an injury then pregnancy and then recovering from that. I’m now in a position to start running again and I am very excited because for a long time I wasn’t sure if it would be safe for me to do so again.

I have completed week 2 run 1 today and I am using the NHS app.

Effitall · 14/01/2022 11:58

Aww yay- I’m totally in it for the rosettes! Thanks!

IDKAYBIF32 · 14/01/2022 13:51

Thanks @Jfw82 and @PurpleDaisies, I've found an independent runing shop online that does gait analysis and stocks asics, so will give them a visit next week. I have quite flat feet so could probably do with some more supportive trainers than my old Nikes grin.

@hivemindneeded

Oh no, that sounds painful, must be worrying when it twinges.

@heywhatswrongwitu
It was okay here ice wise yesterday, not today though. When it was icy last week I didn't risk it and just used my exercise bike instead.

heywhatswrongwitu · 14/01/2022 14:48

Thanks for the tips re frost everyone, @IDKAYBIF32 yes I'm terrified of getting an injury! Hoping tomorrow might be less slippy.
Thanks @Effitall and @hivemindneeded for the tips, I'm near a park so could try that and dodge the dogs instead!

PurpleDaisies · 14/01/2022 16:40

I changed my mind. After going out for a walk (luckily still in my gym kit from this morning) I decided to run for a bit…and kept going for the full twenty minutes! Feeling. Very proud of myself. I even did the hilly route and was amazed how far round I got. It helped the weather was gorgeous.

I claim my week 5 rosette!

heywhatswrongwitu · 14/01/2022 18:26

@PurpleDaisies amazing well done!!

hivemindneeded · 15/01/2022 21:17

Here you go @PurpleDaisies! Well done.

@Lupinspotato - welcome. Lots of us are at Week 2 right now. Got my final run of Week 2 tomorrow. If anyone else still has their final wk 2 run to do, lets get them in on time.

W3R1 done ! The second three minute run felt LONG but hopefully by run three won't be as bad. Feel so energised to start the day!

hivemindneeded · 16/01/2022 12:02

Week 3 is a bit of a big step up isn't it? I was thinking it was 90seconds on and off but 3 minute runs suddenly! I need to think about a good route as everywhere around here is either knee deep in mud or icy pavements or very uneven terrain. Think I'll end up back on the playing fields.

Need motivation to get back into c25k so found you all! Will aim to start tomorrow or maybe tonight if I feel up to it!

TwinkleToesStrikesAgain · 16/01/2022 14:11

I've got w5r1 to look forward to this evening and we're m dreading it. Currently sitting under a blanket on the sofa feeling cold

rubymaster · 16/01/2022 14:51

Final run of week 2 done this morning!

HeyJackKerouac · 16/01/2022 15:46

Also final run of week 2 completed for me today so just here to collect my rosette.

Beautiful day here today so that made it bearable and I managed an extra 2 mins run at the end today. Not sure I'll manage 3 minutes next week.

Good work everyone

MrsTophamHat · 16/01/2022 16:28

I struggled with 4.1 today so need to restart it. It was a bit more hilly than i'd like and I was on an empty stomach so my resolve was low. I probably should have swapped the podcast for some energetic music in hindsight.

TwinkleToesStrikesAgain · 16/01/2022 21:31

Well I managed w4r1 (5 mins run, 3 mins walk, 5 run, 3 walk, 5 run) and it was fine. Next one is 8 run, 5 walk, 8 run which seems a bit step up and then w4r3 is 20 mins run. Does everyone get nervous about this? I have found it easier to turn around at the half way point and repeat my route home, feels quicker than carrying on and trying to run a circular route!

PurpleDaisies · 16/01/2022 21:48

@TwinkleToesStrikesAgainim just about to start week 6 and was a bit terrified by the runs as written down but actually when I did them they were fine.

Are you sure you’re looking at week 4? That was three identical runs. Week 5 has the 8 minute runs then the 20 minute runs.
