I love Les Mills for several things;

The energy of the presenters
Some great music
That the routines are set to the music, not just a bit of music in the background
They make it fun, not just a routine of things that you have to get through
The app is well laid out and has so much content
There are so many different types of exercise all in one place - you can choose what you do depending on mood/energy levels/time/equipment

I haven't really tried out many online platforms - I've used fitness blender, 30 day shred, random Youtube videos, a friend lent me some Davina dvd's - but once I'd found Les Mills on Demand I just loved it (and have done Les Mills classes in the gym)

I also rate the Peloton app as I have a spin bike at home, so I subscribe to both Peloton and LM. Their spin classes are great and I also love their bike bootcamps. I do some of the strength classes and stretching classes too.

Thanks @MsMartini great tips 😊 - i shall have a try & report back! i needed the tutorial on using their platform 🤦‍♀️ too confusing 🙈

coodawoodashooda · 22/05/2021 17:44

Thank you.

MsMartini · 22/05/2021 20:27

Enjoy, @Stealthynamechange!

I agree with pp about why LMOD is so good. In addition, I tried lots of different things in the first lockdown but wasted time faffing around with different platforms, different tech, classes that were too easy, too hard, needed too much space etc. I find LMOD works really well for me - I wish it had proper Pilates in but otherwise it ticks all my boxes for home exercise.

PearlHart · 24/05/2021 08:24

Can anyone tell me how the challenges work, please? I thought I'd signed up for the Fast Burner challenge, and it's showing 'active' on the app, but I've never had anything delivered to my email. I was expecting a challenge pack or something! Grin

kittykarate · 24/05/2021 10:08

I've only ever done the 'old style' challenges like Optimal Mix rather than the new fangled ones. With the older ones, basically you downloaded the schedule in PDF and in the app, the challenge would be listed under the library for faster access to the workouts.

moiraswigs · 24/05/2021 10:17

@PearlHart I think you should have received an email with the calendar and a pack. I haven't done Fastburner but that's what happened for me with Gamechanger.

rosettesforjill · 24/05/2021 10:41

I think they are having issues with the packs going out - a lot of people on the Facebook group seem not to have received them. I think you can just download from the website though, or contact customer services and they'll send one to you

PearlHart · 24/05/2021 16:39

Thanks kitty, moira and rosettes for your replies. It does seem like they're having issues getting the packs out. I'll have a look on the website and maybe try a different plan instead! Just trying to get back into it after having been a bit demotivated recently Smile

Grot 30 this morning. Still hate it but my fitness levels are definitely improving. I can do more reps now and can jump. Couldn't even do star jumps 2 months ago. Donkey kicks are beyond me though, who comes up with these things.

moiraswigs · 25/05/2021 11:24

I did 30 mins body attack 107 this morning followed by Tone 6. Was absolutely busted after! Tone's a weird one though, I couldn't work out what it was supposed to be, HIITish cardio? I think I was thrown by the name Grin

rosettesforjill · 25/05/2021 14:52

Bodyattack 108 for me today. I always dread attack a little bit but love it when I'm doing it! I love the presenters' enthusiasm. However - I don't think running really works in a home workout. I can't get up enough speed to make it feel like much effort and I do have the luxury of plenty of space! Maybe I need to take it outside.

sociallydistained · 26/05/2021 11:41

I did the new half hour attack today. Enjoyed it but found it didn’t have the best Power or Agility tracks. However, I love new content and I wasn’t planning on doing attack today but it def burned some cals (I wanted to do weights also today hence doing the half one. I’ll try the full at some point). The half one is so intense with Plyo/Agility/Power back to back then strength lol.

moiraswigs · 26/05/2021 14:24

I did a 55 min bodybalance this morning and it was just lovely. Really nice to take things a bit slower but still getting the heart rate up. Think I need to make more time for it and core in my routine.

rosettesforjill · 26/05/2021 14:32

I love Bodybalance! Not so keen on Core though, I find it one of the toughest to do. Which means I should do more of it Grin

HermioneWeasley · 26/05/2021 21:34

Tone kills me - I’m a sweaty mess by the end but as I hate cardio it’s my preferred one as at least it’s not ALL cardio.

sandwiches77 · 27/05/2021 07:41

Is this thread just for LMOD? I prefer real classes as I'm lazy? Which exercise is best for overweight and unfit?

About 5 years ago I did body pump once a week and loved it and started to look toned in places

Now classes are back, what to do to get into some sort of shape without killing myself!!

Thinking about going back to body pump but a) I am fatter and unfit than I was before b) I am older (50), will it be full of young things in their skimpy lycra?

Or do I go for something a little bit more low impact like Zumba and Zumba toning (light hand weights) I know Zumba isn't LM but you know the type of dance based class

I could in theory do both classes as different days of the week but might be too much from zero! Plus the money side of doing both.

I really need to tone up, lose weight and get fitter! No more elasticated trousers Blush

kittykarate · 27/05/2021 15:48

Hi Sandwiches!

Which exercise is best for overweight and unfit?

honestly? The exercise you actually go and do is the best one. It's all well and good us saying 'Do Grit!!!' but if you don't enjoy it, you won't do it!. If you've previously enjoyed Body Pump, go back and do it!

sociallydistained · 27/05/2021 15:56

Sandwiches, you just have to pick something or a variety of things and be consistent with it. Make a commitment to yourself. I am working out 5-6 days a week without fail and I tell myself to at least just show up, doesn’t matter what I do... it took a while to get here but a habit begins to form.

Don’t worry about going to BP class unfit, you have to start somewhere! The classes are highly adaptable. LMOD is great though!

HermioneWeasley · 27/05/2021 19:00

I went back to body pump classes at my gym last year after a 20 year break. I was almost sick with nerves beforehand, but it was great, lots of people older than me (46) in the class and some people as big or bigger than me (size 16) too.

Start light to get your confidence up and re learn the moves and then go for it!

Stealthynamechange · 29/05/2021 06:56

Hi
I've just started using les mills, so far ive tried & enjoyed sh'bam, barre, bodycombat & the shorter body pump. I really dont like body balance! Suspect thats because i really enjoy yoga & dont like how they do it. I want to try step & was thinking of getting a step for bodypump too. Can anyone recomend a step please? I dont really want to pay £160 for the les mills one, but dont know if the cheaper ones are rubbish? Just wondered what others use?
Thanks!

nbee84 · 29/05/2021 08:33

The dkn studio step or the mirafit premium step are both suitable and a good price.

rosettesforjill · 29/05/2021 10:40

@Stealthynamechange I have the Amazon Basics one and it's fine - just make sure you get the one that's 110cm (I think) rather than the shorter one Smile

Stealthynamechange · 01/06/2021 19:36

Thank you both so much - will check these out :-)

HermioneWeasley · 02/06/2021 22:04

Did BP at the gym yesterday and I am feeling it today. Apparently I work out harder in a class than on my own.....
