Thanks, good to hear different viewpoints on whether it's worth going back to the gym. I actually get my LMOD subscription free via my gym membership so I might try going back to a couple of classes next week and see how I end up balancing gym and home workouts. Some of me misses the social side but at the same time it's so much easier to spontaneously do a workout at home (and not worry about how I look!).

MsMartini · 15/05/2021 21:00

@buzzy1, I've cancelled by Virgin active membership. I took up calisthenics pre-covid and do that at specialist outdoor gyms, and I do a park bootcamp. I miss the social side (tho suspect covid rules put paid to that for now) and real life Pilates. But there are lots more outdoor classes I want to try, and I use LMOD in bad weather. If I want to go back to heavy lifting or got injured and needed the machines or something, I'd rejoin or perhaps go for a no-frills cheap gym, as I prefer the outdoor stuff anyway.

MsMartini · 15/05/2021 21:00

(I'm also thinking I can get some park PT if needed with the money I save)

kittykarate · 18/05/2021 09:15

Right, I'm back on it. Started Optimal Mix Prime yesterday (no equipment, taking low impact modifications), with plans to do a BB on the 'rest' work days. I just searched through the Body Balances for Tai Chi, and picked random numbers from that list to populate my diary. It's so much simpler if I have a 'plan' to follow. I might curse the plan, but it does take away the need to make pesky decisions on a morning.

MsMartini · 18/05/2021 09:17

Great news @kittykarate, your patience is paying off! I agree about having a plan

MozzchopsThirty · 18/05/2021 09:28

I couldn't sleep in today so somewhere in my crazy head I thought 'I know ill get up and give Grot a go'

Bloody hard but loved it
Think I'll do it again if I need a quick cardio session. Burnt over 300 cals in 30 mins 👍🏻

kittykarate · 18/05/2021 09:32

Grot is a magnificent calorie burner! It's just so.... Grot.

Well done on getting up and ambushing your body into it Mozzchops

kittykarate · 18/05/2021 09:35

The physio is talking about stopping our sessions after the next one (10/12 of the block covered by my health insurance) as he says that my recovery is looking good now, and I can do most of my hobbies 'a bit'. The last big test is my first ice skating lesson since October next Monday, if I can survive that then it's just a case of taking things steady.

rosettesforjill · 18/05/2021 10:23

2yo DD watched me doing Grot at the weekend. She looked very concerned and said "Poor Mummy!"

Erin Maw I am not.

sociallydistained · 18/05/2021 14:51

Haha Erin is superhuman!!

I did the new GROT 34 Athletic last night... one of the tracks is called “3D Playground” and “obstacle course” well I have never utilised my small living room like that before. Using the step risers as hurdles and moving all over the place took me to all new levels of GROT Grin

kittykarate · 18/05/2021 15:02

If it came out that Erin was a cyborg sent from the future I wouldn't be surprised. I also have similar feelings about Kylie Gates as they both seem superhuman.

rosettesforjill · 18/05/2021 15:20

Oh that sounds fun @sociallydistained - might give that a go!

@kittykarate haha I know - and Lula in pump with her incredible arms

MozzchopsThirty · 18/05/2021 22:06

@kittykarate not sure my body was ready but it was ok

I like Erin she's in some of the body combat releases

Kylie I can't take to, she has a face I want to give the finger to. And the way they all refer to her as KG ..... urgh

kittykarate · 19/05/2021 14:46

It's quite funny how you build up a mental profile of the instructors isn't it? I sit there thinking, yep, would go for a drink with Dan and Rachel. I can picture Rachel falling off a pair of high heels and laughing her arse off. I can picture Lisa from BA going out and eating a dirty burger. Can't picture KG or Erin like that.

rosettesforjill · 19/05/2021 15:09

I would love to go for a night out with Marlon! Not for any adulterous reasons Grin he just seems like he'd be so much fun!

kittykarate · 19/05/2021 16:04

hahaha Marlon would totally be serenading and dancing in the nightclub queue.

sociallydistained · 19/05/2021 16:18

Oh I love KG! Took me ages to warm to Erin but admire her now, still don’t think we’d get on as friends 😂

MozzchopsThirty · 20/05/2021 08:04

Oh no I don't think I'd be friends with Erin but I like her
Yes I think Dan & Rach would be a laugh, and marlon would be on the dance floor all night Grin

rosettesforjill · 21/05/2021 18:02

Hope everyone's doing ok. Grot early this morning for me (29 - too much jumping) as I got Pfizered at lunchtime so didn't know how I'd be feeling this evening. Turns out I'm feeling fine so I will use the free evening for extra GinWineGrin

moiraswigs · 21/05/2021 18:48

Grot cardio 23 for me this morning followed by body balance. That's last day of Game changer done! I really liked the format of game changer so am planning a modified tone and strengthen with combo days starting on Monday.

Hi all, ive just signed up for les mills, precovid i was doing hypertrophy strength classes & yoga at gym. Over the past year its slowly disintegrated 🤦‍♀️ currently doing online yoga and walks only. I'm not able to go back to gym, so les mills it is! Ive ordered a barbell (not theirs). Can anyone recomend a good starter program? I ideally want to lose 25kg but 5kg would be amazing! I cant jump as ive damaged my knee... anyone help? The app is overwhelming!

MsMartini · 22/05/2021 14:10

Hi @Stealthynamechange, there is so much choice!

I'd start (and possibly stop!) with Combat for cardio. It is such good fun and bit less hardcore than grot or attack. Yopu can easily take the jumps out.

And do Core to start with for strength - the full classes (30 mins plus) include shoulders, back, glutes etc not just abs.

Then maybe try a hybrid - I ike the ones that go Combat/Attack/Core

I do strength training separately (calisthenics now, used to lift) so rarely do pump or grit strength as too high rep/low weight for what I want, but lots of people like them.

There are also beginner tuition videos but it sounds like you are experienced so your form will be OK - you just need to build up slowly.

coodawoodashooda · 22/05/2021 14:15

Why is Les Mills better than what's free and available online?

Hi there! There are some structured challenges which I like - Fastburner is the starter one and gives you a good flavour for the different classes. No Bodypump though so you might want to swap that in instead of some of the strength ones they suggest Smile

@coodawoodashooda

Why is Les Mills better than what's free and available online?
I think the classes are exceptionally good and consistent compared to some of the online stuff. The instruction is clear and I always trust they know what they're talking about. And in all honesty, it's just nice and convenient to have everything in one place - I find YouTube quite overwhelming!

Most of all, I genuinely enjoy the classes which keeps me motivated and makes it good value for me. YMMV Smile
