Thanks @redcandlelight

Smile hi all! I’m back!
3 weeks off with the ankle but finally pain-free. I got to W8 so went out yesterday to see how much I could do. Enjoyed the first 14mins, then hit a steep hill and a wall!! Had been for a long walk weds and lots of pottering about as well but was miffed as it’s the first time I’ve ever had to stop.
ACHEY thighs today Grin! Will go back to week 6 I think and restart from there
Hope you’re all well

redcandlelight · 30/04/2021 19:45

hi king great that your ankle seems ok.
week 6 seems like a good plan.
@Maerchentante like you I did c25k several years ago, got into a routine of regular runs, and then stopped (winter, sore knee...). You'll get through the programme before you know it.
I'm interested in your experience of the vaccine. I had mine yesterday and feel like I've been hit by a bus. I'm so achey, it hurts to walk. I was planning to run tomorrow morning but I don't know if I'll be able to. I'm worried this will undo some of the progress I'd been making Sad
Getting back into a routine was, so far, quite easy, but I honestly look forward to Parkrun coming back.

I did one of the week 2 runs the day of my vaccine and felt absolutely fine, the following three days I was just so incredibly tired and had flu like symptoms. Also, on day two after the vaccine I was positively ravenous, I could have eaten all day long...
The week after I developed a low heart rate, which doctors think is not connected to the vaccine but I am not quite as convinced.

redcandlelight · 01/05/2021 13:34

really slow run today.
however I ran for one hour (8.5k)
it was really pleasant, sunny but cool.

redcandlelight · 01/05/2021 13:36

I have to admit to really slowing down for a bit due to tummy rumbling. luckily it passed. I was already eyeing up shrubbery...

OP posts:
longlivetheking · 01/05/2021 13:43

Grin @redcandlelight - glad you didn’t have to utilise any shrubbery!
In awe of an hour of running.

Redid W6R1 and it was ok. Thighs were still aching from Thursday so I planning to spend the rest of the BH weekend standing up and wishing we lived in a bungalow Blush

Talksunderwater · 01/05/2021 14:20

Thanks all for your thoughts on shorts Smile

I did my usual run yesterday and it was quite a bit faster Grin - presumably due to the interval training I did earlier in the week. I could tell my pace was faster but I was surprised that I shaved a whole minute off my time Smile. My knee is sore today though (old injury) so I’m giving it a rest. This has given me the inspiration to try the interval training again even though it was really tough going - possibly tomorrow if the knee allows.

WhereAreWeNow · 01/05/2021 15:19

I still feel rotten post-vaccine so couldn't run today Sad I'm hoping I'll be able to go tomorrow.

@Talksunderwater a whole minute off your time is very impressive! Well done.

DenisetheMenace · 01/05/2021 19:34

Hello (please be kind) people.

Lost 6 stone plus over 7 years ago now. Kept it off within 3lbs with combination of healthy eating, moderate wine/gin consumption and a near 10 mile walk every weekday, culminating in just over 6 hour marathon (walking) a couple of years ago.

Over lockdown with CEV husband, CV oldest child, our dog and my walking companion of over 15 years passed on, she looked just like the emoji 🐶 🥺.

Now, haven’t walked for months. Too much gin, solace in recipes 😱

I’m now aware of my hips, bum and belly when I move, something I haven’t experienced for years. 57th birthday last week, 17lb to lose. Back in the game on Monday.

Please wish me luck, Arrival of grandchild spurring me on but I was so disciplined for so long I think I’m going to have to dig quite deep.
(Not all vanity, cancer 4 years ago and excess weight worries me most with that in mind).

redcandlelight · 01/05/2021 19:55

good luck denise

the first couple of weeks are the hardest.
sorry to say that running is not a magic bullet wrt wobbly bits, but is does help a little.

OP posts:
longlivetheking · 01/05/2021 20:11

Good luck @DenisetheMenace

BIWI · 01/05/2021 20:25

Sounds like you've had a really tough time @DenisetheMenace Flowers

Don't know if you've done C25K before, but it really works! Just remember, though, that you can't outrun your fork - diet is more important than exercise if you're looking for weight loss.

Exciting to have a grandchild on the way! When are they due?

emilyjeff · 01/05/2021 21:05

Evening ladies. Not been on for a few days as we are away at the min. I ran yesterday though, lovely 6k around the forest near where we are staying. Hopefully I'll get another one in tomorrow or Monday

EmilyDickinson · 02/05/2021 16:17

Welcome Denise sounds like you e had a lot to contend with. Well done for getting through it and good luck with C25K.

I completed C25K a little while ago. I haven’t done as much running since as I’d hoped due to various injuries, illnesses and work but have managed not to have a gap of more than a week or so between runs and have done some walking a cycling in between. Today I decided to start C2 10K. It was quite odd to go back to interval running again (4 x 10 minute runs with 1 minute walking in between) but hopefully it will give me a bit of structure and ensure I progress. I’d never have thought that once I hit 5k I’d be looking to run further, but I’m enjoying running to different places now I’ve got a longer time to do it.

I’m also looking forward to Park Run returning now that I feel confident doing 5k

Onedropbeat · 02/05/2021 17:36

Has anyone bought a treadmill?
I’m thinking of getting one for when it’s too hot to run in the day and means I can run at home whilst baby naps too.
I’m missing too many runs at the moment now things have got busier with retuning to work and DH doing long hours.

Could anyone recommend one?

DenisetheMenace · 02/05/2021 20:30

Wow, thank you, BIWI, EmilyDickinson, longlivetheking, redcandlelight.

My wording was poor. Our grandchild has already arrived, he’s 8 months old. He’s just, this weekend, crawled!!! If he can do that, I figure I can power walk again.

Just want to say, I’m si incredibly proud of my husband, too. He has several health issues, one potentially life threatening with each recurrence and has struggled for decades with his (considerable) excess weight brought about mostly by his limited ability). He started, slowly, exercising with a mighty exercise bike about 12 weeks after the baby was born. He has mobility issues, can’t walk more than a few hundred metres but the bike is manageable. Several months on, he is cycling more than 150 km every week!

Thank you all, very much. Will keep you posted. Nothing like a new life to make you reassess 😃

randomsabreuse · 02/05/2021 21:59

I've just reminded myself why I like races and club runs. Decided I fancied off road today and thought I'd go the opposite way to the way I turned last time, across a bridge across a river (this detail is important). I'm in Scotland so any track is fair game, went confidently exploring until I realised there were no more bridges, so being kept going to the next (road) bridge having meandered around a few field hedges. My planned 1h 35 run took me 9 miles. Then I walked 8 miles home because I was being stubborn and although DH offered to pick me up I wanted to walk (and I hadn't quite twigged that I was 8 miles from home...)

Sack the route planner/navigator, time to join a running club and steal their routes/ do races with nice clear signs and people to follow!

RAINSh0wers · 03/05/2021 08:57

I did week 1 a few weeks ago but then my youngest got chicken pox, DH was busy with work and I got a (non-covid) cough and felt rotten.

Dragged myself out of bed this morning to do w2 r1 and really enjoyed it! And I only coughed once! Determined to keep it up this time.

Does anyone have any links to stretching videos for after running? I found that I’m really aching and my house has a lot of stairs!

redcandlelight · 03/05/2021 09:14

wow random
that's quite a bit of exercise under your belt!

OP posts:
LatinforTelly · 03/05/2021 12:48

RAINSh0wers I use the stretching bit of a Davina 7 minute fit DVD that I've had for ages. It's a sort of circular routine so easy to remember without actually using the DVD and I do it a couple of times - takes under 5 minutes. I'm sure there are probably similar things online (or is Davina online these days?!)

I graduated today! I changed my route for week 9 so I didn't have to carry on after the bastard hill and am now doing 2.7 miles in the 30 minutes, but it is a flatter route. Next plan is to try to get slightly faster to make it to 3 miles/ 5k and then to go back to the circular bastard hill route!

EmilyDickinson · 03/05/2021 17:41

Congratulations on your graduation RAIN!

EmilyDickinson · 03/05/2021 17:42

Oops sorry, I meant Latin

redcandlelight · 03/05/2021 17:43

congrats latin well done!

did 4.5k today doing intervalls. I really feel it now.
