Week 6 run 2 done this evening

I really struggled as I went straight from my house which is at the highest point of the town

I managed just under 4km and looking at the run stats it’s showing an overall elevation of 462feet so I’m hoping it’s just down to that.
The last km was an average pace of 9minutes which wasn’t great and averaged out across the whole run at just over 8

BobVance · 15/03/2021 19:34

Thanks for the suggestion @WellJuhnelle I’m definitely going to try and do some of those workouts - they look great!

W5R1 completed today - I felt fine doing it, last 5 min run felt the easiest even though it was all uphill. I’ve started listening to podcasts now instead of music which helps distract the mind. Oh and my VO2 Max on my Garmin went up again - apparently my fitness age is now 40. I’m 31 years old but it said it was 47 when I started so I’m very pleased!

WhereAreWeNow · 15/03/2021 19:50

@Talksunderwater and @Therearenomore do you find your Brooks wide fit are wide all over? I've got a bunion which means I need a wide fit at the front but I don't need wide heels. I wondered if wide fit might be too wide all over.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 15/03/2021 19:59

No, just at the toe @WhereAreWeNow, I've got high arches and narrowish heels and they're possibly the most comfortable shoes I've ever had.

WhereAreWeNow · 15/03/2021 20:20

Ooh that sounds great @FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack. I've got high arches and narrow heels too. Which ones do you have?

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 15/03/2021 20:30

I've got a pair of Ghost 13 @WhereAreWeNow, they were pricey but their money back guarantee if you weren't happy convinced me. Though just a heads up, I ordered directly from them and it came from Germany, so depending on where you are you might have to pay customs.

Also, NC fail. Ah well. ThereAreNoMore was my I'll try C25K it may not work out so then I can pretend it never happened username but remembering to NC each time is a PITA Grin

randomsabreuse · 16/03/2021 16:08

This was recommended in my running club. I do the wide forefoot thing on all my shoes except by old (men's) Kizunas and have the high arch thing on another pair.

Watch loose lacing on properly muddy trails though, losing a shoe is not very comfortable!

Trainers are funny things, if I describe my feet you'd probably never recommend the shoes I've ended up in, but were the most comfortable out of the ten or so pairs I tried

Talksunderwater · 16/03/2021 19:03

@WhereAreWeNow I have a bunion too and medium/high arches and narrow heels. The Brooks ones I have are GTS21. I also have a medium support arch in them. Love them.

WhereAreWeNow · 16/03/2021 19:04

That's a good idea @randomsabreuse. I might try lacing mine differently while I wait for running shops to reopen.

Talksunderwater · 16/03/2021 19:04

*Should say medium support insole

Italianmeringuebuttercream · 16/03/2021 20:05

I'm happy to report ds14 actually finished his 1st session today! Hes determined to properly finish week 1, the promise of a tiny easter egg (dairy milk one) is motivating him Smile

redcandlelight · 16/03/2021 20:14

BobVance can I ask you about your Garmin? DH talked me into one and I've just done the set up basics and yesterday's run with it. Did you have to somehow calculate or push yourself to your maximum HR for the Vo2 max or did it sort it out itself when you ran with it?

DH already knew his from cycling so is no use to me.

BobVance · 16/03/2021 21:16

@FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack welcome to the Garmin Club! I love mine - what model have you got? Mine’s a Forerunner 45.

VO2 Max will auto calculate after you do your first run, I think (maybe you have to do more than one?). Then as you record more run activities it will move around a bit while it tries to figure out your true score (well, as true as an estimate can be). I’m only on week 5 of C25k and my VO2 Max moves up after every run at the moment!

Does that help?

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 16/03/2021 21:24

Thank you! And yes! I had visions of me having to do sprints or something while trying not to have a heart attack!

I do love it so far, it's the 645 and I'm using it as a watch, plus I love the giant numbers for the time, I don't need reading glasses to see them Grin

ChinOfThanos · 16/03/2021 21:29

Just started last week so marking place.

randomsabreuse · 16/03/2021 21:36

I normally love my Garmin but today it is telling me my VO² Max has gone down so my training is unproductive, but I'm following its plan.

To be fair I had to delay my "long" run from Sunday to Monday evening because of DH's work then went for a short run this morning so limited recovery time. Plus I seem to find dictated pace (rather than whatever I just settle into) to be more effort than it should be.

Short run tomorrow pm then back on track with a rest day!

redcandlelight · 17/03/2021 16:28

first run with my new shoes.
they feel good but I need to get used to them.

6min/k seems so far away for me

How will I ever get there?

schoolcook · 17/03/2021 17:07

I also have the garmin 645 and it's constantly telling me I'm unproductive or I need over 70 hours to recover from a run.

I largely ignore it and use it as a guide to which direction my fitness is going.

I'm 45 and it tells me my fitness age is 20 GrinGrinGrinGrinGrin- it really isn't Grin

HermitsLife · 17/03/2021 17:11

Hello, hope I can join it too. Just did W3 R1 today. I've actually got to week 5 about 3 time but I really want to stick with it this time!

emilyjeff · 17/03/2021 17:18

Hi ladies and welcome newbies. I did 5.7km this afternoon! It was hard work, I was struggling and about ready to stop at just over 2k so had to have a word with myself! Feeling good now though 😊
Think I'll have a couple of days off now and not run again until the weekend
I hadnt even heard of this VO2 max thing, I have a garmin vivoactive 4s but have never seen it come up before, maybe I need to go looking for it on garmin connect?
