Hello!
Can I join you?
Just finished W7R3
I'm a complete novice and thought my lungs might explode in week 1, but I'm getting there.
Very slow - today I managed 3km in 25 mins, but I'm miles away from where I was at the start of this journey.

Hoping to get to 30 mins and then increase to running to 5k in time for when Park Runs start up again.

Will go back and have a read of the thread now!

Hi SandWitch!

I'm at the same point as you - just about to attempt W8R1 this morning.

I have thought about aiming for a park run if I can run 5k but then the fear of being the overweight, unfit one at the back kicks in!!

Cavagirl · 08/04/2021 10:02

Welcome SandWitch!
I did parkrun occasionally with DP before lockdown (bloody hated it, pre-C25k!) You can see recent times online for your local parkrun, if you're nervous that will give you some reassurance. Plenty of people just walk round mine. The last ones are doing it in just under an hour.
If you've done C25k I really really doubt you'd be anywhere near the back, let alone the last one. And who cares if you are anyway, someone has to be Grin

Shopgirl1 · 08/04/2021 10:30

W6 R3 completed today. The last few minutes were tough, but otherwise it was ok. Monitored my distance for the first time today, for the 5 minute warm up and cool down plus 25 minutes running I covered 5.4km. I’m pretty happy with that, hoping when I manage 30 minutes running I can cover the 5km, and then build from there.

Italianmeringuebuttercream · 08/04/2021 11:12

Hi all, I'm definitely feeling the benefits of running in the morning rather than after work (school holidays) and only leaving 1 day between runs. Ds is really not enjoying it but I don't want to let him quit! We're due to start wk2 on Sunday and after 4 weeks of wk1 I'm scared! I really don't think ds will be able to complete any runs (me neither if I'm honest) but even if we do wk2 for 4 weeks its something right?

Italianmeringuebuttercream · 08/04/2021 11:13

Also dd10 is massively into rollerskating at the moment and I'm soooooo tempted to get some too. Have any of you skated?

Cavagirl · 08/04/2021 11:23

@Italianmeringuebuttercream you can definitely do W2 if you've done W1 for 4 weeks, although I totally remember the fear of another 30 seconds. It's all in the mind though!
The really nice thing about W2 is you get longer waking break than W1 so that's your reward Grin

redcandlelight · 08/04/2021 11:24

italian give week 2 a go.
ds needs to pull up his big boy pants and get on with it. though I get that you don't want to put him off exercise forever by forcing him too much.

does he have a friend who can join in? or even dd on her skates could be a motivation.

Welcome @Haggisfish and @foodtoorder.

I meant to run this morning but just couldn't face it. Now feeling guilty and annoyed with myself. I might go later even though I prefer early runs.

teaandbiscuitsforme · 08/04/2021 12:06

You can definitely do week 2 Italian! Tricky with DS though. Sorry if I've missed it - how old is he?

Just completed W8R1, well kind of! I think I ran for 40mins but had a tech failure so it's guesswork today! I somehow managed to close the C25K app sometime after Sarah had told me I'd run for 5mins so had to restart the run! I ran through the warm up etc and then for the 28mins so I'm guessing about 40mins in total. I also forgot to start Strava so no help there! Must sort my tech out for next time!!

Italianmeringuebuttercream · 08/04/2021 12:09

@teaandbiscuitsforme hes 14. Has zero experience of exercise. Not active at all, a pure gamer! This c25k is for his Duke of Edinburgh bronze (which he now also wants to quit Hmm)

redcandlelight · 08/04/2021 12:19

italian would zombie run be for him?
it sort of combines gaming and running.

teaandbiscuitsforme · 08/04/2021 12:21

Really tricky age Italian! I think as a teen (and it carries on to being an adult!) it's so easy to decide or be told that you're not one of the sporty ones and then opportunities to be active seem to disappear. It would be so good if you can get him to do a week 2 run but appreciate it's hard for you!

redcandlelight · 08/04/2021 12:26

my teens were half dragged to starting with me, but they excelled. but running together gave them an opportunity to chat without screens (and to outrun their mum!).
them having their own strava was also motivating.

another thing italian is ds up for 'silly walks' for the walking bit? we did that ocassiknally with the dc proposing the walking styles.

I need to do W8R1 @BIWI but won’t be until Saturday with work and kids and now a bloody sore ankle getting in the way!
I seem to get injury after niggle Sad

redcandlelight · 08/04/2021 17:29

boo sore ankle!
hope it's better soon

BIWI · 08/04/2021 17:40

Sorry to hear about the ankle @longlivetheking Sad. Hopefully rest will sort that - have you tried RICE? Rest, ice, compress, elevate.

Anti-inflammatories too.

KarmaViolet · 08/04/2021 17:43

Week 8 and I've abandoned the app and just went for it. FIVE K! Super pleased with myself - the next step is going to be doing it without the 5 minute walk at the beginning.

longlivetheking there was a link posted above for strength training which seems to have helped with my joints - I am hyper mobile and constantly get niggles like that, it's why I keep getting up to 5k and then abandoning exercise for a year and having to start again at the beginning! I've been doing Yoga with Adrienne as a warm down too, she has some expressly for runners which are good.

BIWI · 08/04/2021 18:07

Well done @KarmaViolet!

But I have to ask you, why do you want to do it without the walk? That walk is important as it gets your muscles warmed up, which helps to prevent injury. Just like the cool down walk and stretches are important.

If you're hypermobile/getting lots of niggles I'd have thought this would be even more important for you, surely?

longlivetheking · 08/04/2021 18:13

Thanks all - taking the RICE route when I can & it does fee better today so hopefully Saturday I’ll be good to go. I found the 25mins took my all so bit nervous about 28mins Confused
Wow Karma

longlivetheking · 08/04/2021 18:15

Oops, posted too soon!
Will def look for that strengthening link - think it’s something I really need

KarmaViolet · 08/04/2021 18:27

[quote emilyjeff]@Cavagirl sounds like you may need to work on strengthening your legs. I've been doing this the last couple of weeks and I think it's helping-

@longlivetheking this is the one I'm using that was posted above.

KarmaViolet · 08/04/2021 18:29

@BIWI I didn't explain it very well - I mean I want to be able to do 5k actually running, so 5.5k total, not 0.5k walk then 4.5k run which is what I did today. I don't mean I want to completely abandon the warm up!

longlivetheking · 08/04/2021 18:56

Brilliant - thank you Karma
