Couch to 5K - Run 1 done...

I did my first 'run' today. Think I'm going to need help to go all the way to week 9 but determined to do it before I hit the big 50. Anyone else started this week? Fancy a support thread? Couldn't see an active recent one.

Chin up @FallenSkies, I felt the same yesterday and managed it. You can do this.

MumOfDiamonds · 10/05/2020 09:57

Hi everyone. I started C25K just over a week ago. I did my wk2 run 1 on Thursday. I suffer with awful periods and this weekend has been terrible. Will I be okay to do run 2 tomorrow or have a left it too long? Will I need to redo run 1? I found this 2nd week fairly easy, breathing was noticeably easier.

Also I'm needing to lose around 4st, is anyone else steadily losing weight whilst completing it?

JonHammIsMyJamm · 10/05/2020 09:58

5/2 ticked off. Really sweaty but good.

Not quite 10am and I’m already over 12k steps as have walked dog and done my run. Today is going to be a good day! All the best to those out today.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 10/05/2020 10:09

@MumOfDiamonds, I should think you’ll be fine to move on to the next run Smile

choc27 · 10/05/2020 10:58

I also go Beetroot red for hours afterwards! Don't care anymore!
Sorry those that have had a bad run, the first time I tried to do C25k a few years back I had a bad run and gave up on it and then gave up on the whole thing. Really wish I hadn't now and have learnt my lesson.

OhTheseSummerNiiiiights · 10/05/2020 11:56

Morning all! Wk 4 R2 ticked off for me, I am really delighted. I found it easier pacing myself today, I think I could have made it another few minutes!

My period is due this week though and if I’m going to hit the wall, it’ll be then. Boh.

I haven’t lost any weight yet but I see a difference in myself and I’m much more confident. I have been out in a vest top and I don’t care if I’m flabby, which is a total turnaround for me.

BekindStayhome · 10/05/2020 13:29

I haven't lost weight and I can't really see it happening without changing diet too. So, my plan is to finish the C25k, get into a nice exercise pattern and then look at how I could reduce calories/fat/whateber it takes.

RonBurgundyspanpipe · 10/05/2020 19:38

W7r1 done, such a mental battle and thought it was hard today. However, 4.2km covered, 150m more than last run, 1mile pb, 2 mile pb and 1km pb, plus 18 seconds of my time per I'm!!! Where did that come from? This programme really works.

@BekindStayhome that's my weight loss plan too, can't push myself to exercise and cut calories too.

Well done to everyone who has run over the last few days.

ChanklyBore · 10/05/2020 23:27

Well done Ron! That’s a lot of PBs!

Fefifoefum · 10/05/2020 23:29

Hello RUNNERS. Can I join?
I’m on week 8, I never ever thought I’d get here. Running for 28 minutes?! Me? The very overweight 30 something!
I’m so bloody proud of myself though. Although tonight’s run was slow (thanks Strava!) it felt controlled!

BookShop · 10/05/2020 23:49

@RonBurgundyspanpipe great PBs well done!

Hoolahoophop · 11/05/2020 08:04

Hi all can I join. Just home from week 4 run 1 and it was better than I expected. I used to run 20 mins a day pre babies. Couch to 5k is my first attempt to get back to in after 6 years.

Baseline2815 · 11/05/2020 09:52

W9R2 done. I felt rotten before I set out this morning, went anyway, and the run was just fine. I tried to put Strava on to see how far I ran, but it didn't log any of my running in the park (which is 2/3 of it!). I give up.

This run is where I realised that I am not one run away from the finish line. I have to keep this up, at least 3x/week, from here on out. This programme got me to the start line.

I would sign up for a 5k charity race but that ain't happening now.

Gonna need to stay motivated!

Flamingolingo · 11/05/2020 09:59

@Hoolahoophop just like me! DC1 born summer 2014, and I’ve not managed to get back into the fitness groove since. I’ve never been a runner though!

RonBurgundyspanpipe · 11/05/2020 10:06

Welcome @Hoolahoophop @Fefifoefum

@Baseline2815 well done on running 30 minutes. It's a shame about Strava as when it works it's very motivational.

Just reread my last post and can't believe how smug I sound, sorry for that but I was really pumped after that run. I passed DH and dc on that run and he said I looked like a proper runner rather than a sweaty, beetroot, panting mess.

titsbumfannythelot · 11/05/2020 11:15

I don't think you sounded smug at all, you should be pleased with all of those things!

I've just completed week 5 run 1, feeling quite pleased myself.

HGC2 · 11/05/2020 14:47

I am so very surprised to say that I managed w5r3 - a 20 minute run! Not for a second did I ever think that would be possible when 60 seconds nearly killed me in w1
! Keep going everyone!!!

Fefifoefum · 11/05/2020 16:42

@HGC2 WELL DONE!
That’s the best feeling, be super proud!

ILoveAnOwl · 11/05/2020 16:47

Late to the party (as always) but I've done run 1 today. It was OK!

BekindStayhome · 11/05/2020 18:53

Congratulations HGC2! I am so daunted by the thought of that one coming up later this week.

BekindStayhome · 11/05/2020 18:54

And well done Owl, doing the first was the hardest for me, it took about two weeks to get out after I'd decided to try this!

HGC2 · 11/05/2020 19:41

I was too, when I started it I was very much breaking it into little chunks and gave myself permission to stop if I needed to, bet you will be fine x

Thankssomuch · 11/05/2020 19:50

Well done HGC2! I’m starting Wk 5 tomorrow with some fear(!)

RonBurgundyspanpipe · 11/05/2020 20:16

@titsbumfannythelot well done on your run today.

@HGC2 well done on 20 minutes, it's a great feeling

DivisionBelles · 11/05/2020 20:21

I attempted W4R1 today but failed. I wasn't feeling it when I went out. One of the DC had pinched my only hair band so I improvised with a crocodile clip which kept sliding out so I was trying to adjust that while on the move. My calves were killing me and then about halfway round my knee started playing up. Going to try again on Wednesday. Up until now I've been enjoying the plan but fell out of love with running today.
